Open Heavens 15 October 2016: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Who is your Role Model?

Topic: Who is your Role Model? [Saturday 15, October 2016]
Memorise: Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ. – 1 Corinthians 11:1
Read: Philippians 3:14-19 (KJV)
14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
16 Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:
19 Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
Bible in One Year: Daniel 9-10, Psalms 78:55-72
MESSAGE:
One thing that thrills me about the Bible is that it is a library of books that confirms that there is no new thing under the heaven. Everything good, bad and ugly have happened before and they are written so that we can learn from them. We have had many leaders in both secular and religious history; we still have leaders in the present age. The question is; who is your role model? Show me your model and I can tell you who you are. In the Bible reading for today, we read about someone who was bold enough to tell his audience to follow him because he was a follower of the Greater Master, Jesus. He went further to tell the Philippians what he did with his life:
“13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” - Philippians 3:13-14
In his effort to please his Master and Lord, the apostle said that those things which were gain to him, he counted as nothing so that he may win Christ and His righteousness. He aspired to become like Jesus Christ to the point of no return. He said in Philippians 3:10:
“That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;”
We can learn many things from the life of this apostle: If we look at the dramatic change that followed his encounter with Jesus Christ on the way to Damascus, we cannot help but ask whether we plan to go to the same heaven with this soldier of the Cross. His memoirs are clearly written in 2 Corinthians 11 and 12. He spoke in part about the price of not only his discipleship but also of his apostleship, as he talked of a thorn in his flesh that buffeted him and then concluded in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 by saying:
“9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”
Beloved, who is your role model? We have living role models in the present age; those that are sold to the righteousness attainable only in Christ, those who have not corrupted themselves with the affairs of this life. Their lifestyles may not be amiable but if we follow them, our heavenly destination is guaranteed. Paul, the apostle under study, warned us thus in Philippians 3:17
“Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.”
The reason he gave was that many, even as early as the first century Church did not walk uprightly. As it was in the beginning so it is now. Therefore, beloved, watch out for good role models and pattern your life after them as they do after Christ.
Action Point: Look among Christian leaders and find out those living according to Christ’s doctrine. Follow their footsteps.

Open Heavens 14 October 2016: Friday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Proven Weapon?

Topic: Proven Weapon? [Friday 14, October 2016]
Memorise: The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe. – Proverbs 18:10
Read: 1 Samuel 17:38-47 (KJV)
38 And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put an helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail.
39 And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed to go; for he had not proved it. And David said unto Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.
40 And he took his staff in his hand, and chose him five smooth stones out of the brook, and put them in a shepherd's bag which he had, even in a scrip; and his sling was in his hand: and he drew near to the Philistine.
41 And the Philistine came on and drew near unto David; and the man that bare the shield went before him.
42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance.
43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.
44 And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.
46 This day will the LORD deliver thee into mine hand; and I will smite thee, and take thine head from thee; and I will give the carcases of the host of the Philistines this day unto the fowls of the air, and to the wild beasts of the earth; that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel.
47 And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD'S, and he will give you into our hands.
Bible in One Year: Daniel 7-8, Psalms 78:40-55
MESSAGE:
One unfortunate thing about the spiritual warfare of this end-time is that many warriors of the Cross use weapons that have not been proven. As a result, they either die on the battlefield or become prisoners of spiritual wars.
Many of us are familiar with the story of David and Goliath, but it is possible that we missed one or two lessons in the story. As we continue to read and mediate on this popular story, we can gain insights into more reasons why the story was recorded for us to learn from. The first lesson we can learn is the fact that king Saul, as bad as his state of spirituality might have been as at that time was very concerned about the safety of the young man who was proving to be a “dare devil”. He put on David the weapons of his own defence. The question is; if this armour could help, how come the original owner did not use it to free his nation from the threat of the giant? We can quickly learn that it is a curse to be under a weak or discouraged leader. What saved the day was that David realised that the battle was not just a physical battle. So, he quickly turned spiritual in his approach to the battle with, (humanly speaking) the most ridiculous weapon of war.  In fact, Goliath himself felt that the battle had turned to a comic drama. 1 Samuel 17:42-43:
“42 And when the Philistine looked about, and saw David, he disdained him: for he was but a youth, and ruddy, and of a fair countenance. 43 And the Philistine said unto David, Am I a dog, that thou comest to me with staves? And the Philistine cursed David by his gods.”
Another lesson, particularly from the above scripture is that in spite of the disdainful weapon that David was carrying, Goliath still employed his spiritual allies; he cursed David by his gods. How I wish that all children of God will realise that it is not the grammar of the language they use that will do the work of conversion; it is by the Spirit of our God. Human methods have never worked in the history of the Church, men and women of God who succeeded in the ministry were those who allowed the Spirit rather than self might, power or administrative acumen to lead in their ministries. David was a better match for this warrior who was fighting through the spirit of divination and sorcery. He said: “…Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.” The end of the story was victory for Israel and great defeat for the Philistines. David used the weapon he had proven and found to be true; the name of the Lord.
Action Point: Use the Name of the Lord to confront the battles you are facing today and you will see them crumble before you. The Name is lethal. (Meaning of Lethal: Able to cause or causing death; extremely dangerous)

The decision of National Judicial Council on the recent invasion of some judges residence and arrest by Department of state security services (DSS)

At its last Emergency Meeting which was held on  October 11th 2016, Council decided among other matters, as follows:
That the National Judicial Council is a creation, by virtue of Section 153 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, with its powers specified in Paragraph 21 of Part One of the Third Schedule whereof.
That by virtue of Section 160 of the 1999 Constitution, Council fashioned out:
 Judicial Discipline Regulations;
ii)      Revised NJC Guidelines and Procedural Rules for the   Appointment of Judicial Officers of all Superior Courts of Record;
iii)      Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; and
   iv)    National Judicial Policy
to inter-alia, regulate its own procedure while exercising its Constitutional Powers.
3.      That Section 158 (1) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, has unequivocally provided for the independence of the National Judicial Council vis-à-vis directing or controlling it by any authority or person while exercising its powers.
 4.      Reiterated its absolute confidence in President Muhammadu Buhari Administration and its unwavering determination to uphold the Principles of Democracy, Separation of Powers and the Rule of Law enshrined in the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended and the United Nations Charter, which Nigeria is a Member.
 5.      That it shall continue to support the President Buhari Administration in its fight against corruption in all its ramifications in the Federation; and in cleansing the Judiciary of corrupt Judicial Officers.
 6.      However, expresses its grave concern on the recent invasion of the Residences and arrest of some serving and suspended Judicial Officers by the Department of State Services (“DSS”); and condemned the action in its entirety.
 7.      Viewed the action as a threat to the Independence of the Judiciary, which portends great danger to our democracy; and also considered the action as a clear attempt by the DSS to humiliate, intimidate, denigrate and cow the Judiciary.
BACKGROUND FACTS
8.1    RE: HON. JUSTICE SYLVESTER NGWUTA
The Public is aware that Hon. Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, was arrested after his House was invaded by heavily armed and masked operatives of the Department of States Security on Friday 7th October,2016. The operatives did not leave his house until 12.00 noon of the followingday, when he was whisked away to the (“DSS”) office.
8.2    RE: HON. JUSTICE INYANG OKORO
The Residence of Hon. Justice Inyang Okoro, a Justice of Supreme Court of Nigeria, was raided in the same manner and was arrested by the same operatives of the DSS.
Contrary to the claim by the DSS and as published in the electronic and print media, Council has never received any petition against the aforesaid Judicial Officers: Hon. Justices Ngwuta and Okoro of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, by the DSS.
8.3    RE: HON. JUSTICE MUHAMMED LADAN TSAMIYA OF THE COURT OF APPEAL
At its Meeting which was held on 29thSeptember, 2016, Council had found His Lordship culpable of professional misconduct contrary to Code of Conduct for Judicial Officers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the provisions of Section 292 of 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria. Accordingly, he was recommended to Mr President for compulsory retirement from office following the petition written by one MrNnamdi Iro Oji for demanding the sum of N200,000,000.00 (Two Hundred Million Naira) bribe.  It is to be stressed that from the evidence before the Council, Hon. Justice Ladan Tsamiya did not receive N200m bribe.  The Petitioner adduced evidence to support his allegation that Hon. Justice Tsamiya only demanded forthe money.
In the exercise of its power, Council had suspended Justice Tsamiya from office, pending when the President will act on the recommendation. And Mr. President has approved the recommendation of the Council and compulsorily retired His Lordship from office yesterday, the 12th day of October, 2016.
8.4.   RE: HON. JUSTICE I. A. UMEZULIKE, OFR
Hon. Justice I. A. Umezulike, OFR, Chief Judge, Enugu State, was recommended for compulsory retirement from office to Enugu State Governor for gross misconduct, pursuant to the petition written against him by Mr. Peter Eze.
In the meantime, National Judicial Council has suspended His Lordship from office pending when the Governor of Enugu State will act on its recommendation.
8.5.   RE: HON. JUSTICE A. F. A. ADEMOLA, OF THE FEDERAL HIGH COURT
Hon. Justice A. F. A. Ademola of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division has been petitioned by Hon. Jenkins Duviegiane Gwebe on allegations bordering on corrupt practices.
Currently, a Committee of the Council is investigating the allegations.
There is no other petition against Hon. Justice Ademola from DSS pending at the National Judicial Council.
8.6.   RE: HON. JUSTICE KABIRU AUTA, KANO STATE HIGH COURT
Hon. Justice Kabiru Auta was investigated by Council based on allegations of corrupt practices levelledagainst him in a petition forwarded to Council by one Alhaji Kabiru Yakassai. His Lordship was recommended to the Governor of Kano State for removal from office by dismissal.  Council wrote separately to the AIG Kano Zone 1, for Police to prosecute Hon. Justice Auta.
Council has suspended His Lordship from office pending when the Governor will act on its recommendation.
8.7    RE: HON. JUSTICE MUAZU PINDIGA OF HIGH COURT, GOMBE STATE
The DSS petitioned the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council alleging corrupt practices against Hon. Justice Pindiga, inter-alia:-
“i)     That the Hon. Judge in a bid to illegally enrich himself, perfected plans through third party proxies/conduits, with a view to influencing the outcome of the Election Tribunal in the governorship polls in favour of the incumbent Governor Nyesom Wike.
ii)    That further ongoing discreet investigation, Justice Pindiga is observed to have illegally enriched himself through corrupt means. Part of the illegitimate proceeds suspected to have accrued to Pindiga includes the underlisted:
 a)      Two (2) completed blocks of six (6) units 2 bedroom flats in Federal Low CostEstate in Gombe metropolis;
 b)      Four (4) units of bungalow in another part of the Estate;
 c)      An uncompleted property at GRA in Gombe Metropolis;
 d)      a Mercedes Benz C300 car in the name of MUBAJJAL;
 e)      A Toyota Venza-Model SUV.
iii)   From all indications, it is apparent that Pindiga, who is a very Senior Justice in Gombe State, is highly corrupt. His continuous stay as a Justice in any capacity would likely embarrass the current administration and pervert the cause of justice. In view of the foregoing, it is strongly advised that immediate necessary administrative and judicial measures be taken on him, including appropriate sanctions and trial to set a precedent to others of his like”.
The complaint containing the allegations of corrupt practices against the Hon. Judgewere conveyed in a letter Ref No. DGSS71/3161 and dated 26th February,2016, written by the DSS to the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council.  The petition was not supported by a verifying affidavit deposed to by the DSS, as required by the National Judicial Council Discipline Regulations 2014. The Petition should have been disregarded for non-compliance with the National Judicial Council Regulations, but by letter Ref. No. NJC/S.15/HC.GM/5/1/128 dated 19th April,2016, the DSS was notified and requested to comply and to depose to a verifying affidavit in support of the allegations of corrupt practices levelled against the Hon. Judge.
By letter Ref No. LSD.232/4/68 dated 6thMay, 2016, to the Council, the DSS deposed to a verifying affidavit in respect of the allegations against Justice Pindiga.
On the directive of the Council, Hon. Justice Mu’azu Pindiga responded to the allegations against him by DSS.  Thereafter, a Committee comprising Members of the Council investigated the allegations of corrupt practices.
Both Parties – The DSS and Hon. Justice Mu’azu Pindiga, together with their witnesses and counsel appeared before the Panel set up by Council in compliance with the National Judicial Discipline Regulations and Section 36 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, on the Right to Fair Hearing.
The DSS was represented by a Director, S. U. Gambo, Esq. who is also a Legal Practitioner in the Department and Hon Justice Pindiga was represented by Joe Agi, SAN.
At the end of the investigation, the DSS could not substantiate any of the allegations of corrupt practices either by documentary or oral evidence against the Hon. Justice Pindiga.
Consequently, at its Meeting of 15th July,2016, Council decided to exonerate Hon. Justice Pindiga of the allegations of corrupt practices levelled against him by DSS.
The Council’s decision was conveyed to Hon. Justice Pindiga in a letter Ref. No. NJC/HC.GM/5/1/132 of 9th August, 2016 and copied the DSS.
8.8.   RE: HON. JUSTICE NNAMDI DIMGBA OF FEDERAL HIGH COURT ABUJA DIVISION
Council is aware that DSS had written a complaint alleging corrupt practices and professional misconduct against Hon. Justice Dimgba by a letter Ref. No. LSD.158/2/31 dated 5th August, 2016.
At its Meeting of 29th September, 2016, Council constituted a Fact Finding Committee comprising its Members to investigate the allegation.
During the last Emergency Meeting of the Council, it received a Report from Hon. Justice Nnamdi Dimgba that his Residence was also raided and ransacked; and in the process, his nephew and driver were man-handled, using a wrong search warrant which was not meant for the search of his house.
The Committee has commenced the process of investigating the allegations before the recent unfortunate raid and search of Hon.  Justice Dimgba’s Residence.
 9.      Council meticulously considered the entire unfolding events that led to the arrest of the Judicial Officers and the misinformation and disinformation making rounds in both Electronic and Print Media that the DSS acted thus because the National Judicial Council was shielding the Judicial Officers from investigation and prosecution for corrupt practices and professional misconduct.
 10.    Council noted particularly, that from the available records, the DSS forwarded only two(2 no.) separate complaints containing allegations of Corrupt Practices against Hon. Justice Pindiga; and corrupt practices and professional misconduct against Hon. Justice Dimgba.
 11.    The impression created and widely circulated before the public, that the DSS forwarded a number of petitions containing various allegations of corrupt practices and professional misconduct against some Judicial Officers to the Council, and they were not investigated, is not correct.  The Council urges the DSS to make public the particulars of such petitions to put the records straight.
 12.    Given the above background facts, on behalf of the Judiciary, Council is constrained to inform the general public that all petitions and complaints forwarded against Judicial Officers bordering on corrupt practices and professional misconduct, have been attended to and investigated, where applicable, by Council since year 2000 to date, within the powers conferred on it by the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
 13.    Therefore, any Judicial Officer that was reprimanded by Council or recommended for removal from office by compulsory retirement or dismissal to the President or Governor, was done in compliance with the Constitutional power, Rule of Law and Due Process.
 14.    From year 2000, when the National Judicial Council held its inaugural Meeting to 2016, 1808 petitions and complaints against Judicial Officers, including Chief Justices of Nigeria, Justices of Supreme Court and Court of Appeal were received by the respective Honourable, the Chief Justices of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council.  Eighty-two (82 No.) of the Judicial Officers were reprimanded (suspension, caution or warning), by Council, in the exercise of its exclusive Constitutional Disciplinary power over Judicial Officers. Thirty-eight (38 No.) of the Judicial Officers were recommended to the President or Governor where applicable, for compulsory retirement from office; while twelve (12 No.) were recommended to the President or Governor as the case may be, for dismissal from office.
In conclusion, Council wishes to state as follows:-
That it maintains its earlier decision that no Judicial Officer shall be invited by any Institution including the DSS, without complying with the Rule of Law and Due Process.  That explains why when the DSS wrote to the Council by letter Ref. No. LSC.960/4 dated 14th September, 2016, to direct Hon. Justice Mu’azu Pindiga to appear before it, The Hon. The Chief Justice of Nigeria and Chairman of the National Judicial Council directed the Hon. Chief Judge of Gombe State to ask Hon. Justice Mu’azu Pindiga to report to DSS, which His Lordship did.
That the National Judicial Council has never shielded nor will it shield any Judicial Officer who has committed any misconduct.
3)      That the Department of State Services is an Agency in the Presidency and its functions as specified in the statute establishing it, is primarily concerned with the internal security of the Country.
 4)      That the action of the DSS is a denigration of the entire Judiciary, as an institution.
 5)      That by the act of the DSS, Judicial Officers are now being subjected to insecurity, as criminals might take advantage of the recent incidents to invade their residences under the guise of being security agents.
 6)      The Council vehemently denounces a situation whereby the Psyche of Judicial Officers in the Federation is subjected to a level where they would be afraid to discharge their Constitutional judicial functions, without fear or favour, intimidation, victimization or suppression.
 7)      The Council will not compromise the integrity and impartiality of the Judiciary.
 8)      The Council wishes to reassure the public that any person who has a genuine complaint against any Judicial Officer is at liberty to bring it up to the Council for consideration, after following due process vide its Judicial Discipline Regulations.
 9)      At the end of the Meeting, Council unanimously agreed to recommend Hon. Justice W. S. N. Onnoghen, CFR, as the most senior, suitable and competent Justice of the Supreme Court to President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, for appointment as the next Chief Justice of Nigeria to succeed Hon. Justice Mahmud Mohammed GCON who retires from office on 10th November, 2016.

Must read: THE REAL REASON WHY GIRLS CHEAT ON THEIR GUYS. by Blackbrothers

According to one of the most sort after magazine in Nigeria and diaspora, Not Man Enough...most times you hear girls saying a guy is not man enough. and you begin to wonder, what makes a man , man enough when he's already a man/male. Maybe they have their reasons to describing some guys like that. And some girls use that as an excuse to cheat on their guys, when the guy is not man enough. And written below are the reasons why some girls cheat on their guys.
1, If her guy is not fine enough: some girls tend to cheat on their boyfriends with other guys presumed to be finer than their boyfriends. there are girls who melt at the sight of an handsome, tall and well built guy. and at that moment, her boyfriend becomes an 'ex' instantly.
2. if her boyfriend is not that good in bed...there are girls who cheat on their boyfriends if the guy is not good in bed. some go out to satisfy themselves with other able guys.
3. if her guy is a broke ass...there are girls who don't waste time when it comes to cheating on a boyfriend that hardly provide for their needs. such girls get their needs met by sleeping with rich guys who can give them whatever they want. you can imagine, a guy hardly gives his girlfriend money to take care of her needs, but the girl appears to be well taken care of. she fix her hair regularly with Brazilian hair, wear expensive clothes and shoes with designer hand bags, use two black berry phones, owns an ipad, and she is not working, neither is she from a rich home. so tell me, where is she getting all the money to look good, from? from other guys of course. mind you these guys aren't father Xmas. And by giving her money and taking care of her, they get something from her exchange (you know nah)
4. if her boyfriend is not giving her enough attention or love...girls are known to seek and crave for attention and love. and whenever both aren't coming from her boyfriend the way she's expect them, some of them don't waste time before seeking for that attention and love elsewhere. and they do this sometimes to make their boyfriends jealous and also notice them. and you know most guys don't like competition when it comes to their women. so, in order to get the attention of her guy, a girl can decide to flirt openly with other guys and also cheat on her boyfriend just to spite him.
5. if the girl is a born flirt or love-addict. that can't do without flirting/sleeping around. there are girls like this. who, no matter what her boyfriend does for her, she'd still cheat on him. even if the guy is as fine and sexy as Cristiano Ronaldo, has enough money like Samuel Eto'o and dot on her like Brad Pitt does to his 'wife' Angelina Jolie, there's no guarantee she wont still cheat on a guy like that. Cos flirting and sleeping around is already in her DNA. I once knew a girl like that way back in school. she was staying with her boyfriend (who was also a friend of mine in school), on campus. and this guy was a rich dude on campus, a karate expert, from a rich family and with siblings based abroad. was good in bed, and was also taking care of her very well. but despite all of this, the girl was still cheating on him. and to rub insult upon injury, she was cheating on him with guys that weren't up to the guy's standard. in terms of looks, built, money, family background and in the area of romance as well. the girl was just a love-addict, who was giving it to every tom, dick and harry on campus. the guy eventually broke up with her later, when he couldn't take it any more.
6. And lastly, if she doesn't love her guy...even those that love their boyfriends still cheat on them, how much more a girl that doesn't love her guy. she's bound to cheat on him, cos to her she doesn't owe him anything. maybe the guy is even the one forcing/begging her to be in the relationship against her wish,or she is just in it for economic reasons. there's no how such a girl wont cheat on him, since she doesn't love him...
So, atimes a guy may be 100% ok, but that doesn't guarantee that your babe wont cheat on you, if  she wants to. the power is in her hands...Abi no be so?.powered by Blackbrother.Ent

Do not broadcast Aisha Buhari's interview Presidency mount pressure on BBC Hausa radio

Presidency mounts pressure on BBC Hausa Service not to broadcast Aisha Buhari's revealing interview..
The BBC Hausa Service is under intense pressure from President Buhari and members of his cabinet not to air the recent interview granted by his wife, Aisha Buhari, which is due for broadcast on Saturday, according to Sahara Reporters.
Buhari is said to have reached out to his wife, who is currently in London, to stop granting further interviews to the media.
In excerpts that have been widely reported in the media, Mrs. Buhari is quoted as saying that the President had ditched those who really worked for his victory in the 2015 election and is instead focusing on those that didn't participate.

The First Lady also said the President did not know a majority of his ministers before appointing them to office and expressed her concern that certain individuals are creating division within the party.
"What I am afraid for them is the rebellion of 15 million people," says Mrs. Buhari at the end of the excerpt available to the public.
Read excerpts from the interview
Wife of the President, Mrs Aisha Buhari has said that some individuals have started creating division among members of the APC. Mrs Buhari stated this in an interview with the Hausa Service of the BBC which was partially aired today.
“This worries us a lot now. Because they believe they are the ones who suffered, but are no where today. Those who didn’t do anything who don’t even have voters’ card are the ones in position, doing everything."
According to Daily Trust, a part of the interview quoted the wife of the president as saying
“What I am afraid for them is the rebellion of 15 million people," a reference to the number of the people who voted the president into power.
Asked whether the president knows those causing the problems for his government, Aisha Buhari said:
“Whether he knows or he doesn’t know, those who voted for him know. There is nothing I will tell him. He can see. Among all the people he selected, if he is asked among 50 people, he doesn’t know 45. I don’t know them despite staying with him for 25 years."
The BBC will air the interview in full later.

Open Heavens 13 October 2016: Thursday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Divine Partnership

Topic: Divine Partnership [Thursday 13, October 2016]
Memorise: Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. – Psalms 41:1
1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.
2 The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies.
3 The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness.
Bible in One Year: Daniel 4:34-6:28, Psalms 78:17-39
MESSAGE:
What is the link between divine partnership and consideration of the poor? As we may know, divine partnership has to do with partnering with the Almighty God. What is the connection between being in the same business with God and our attitude towards the poor? In our Bible reading for today, we discover that when we remember and help the poor, the Lord will deliver us from trouble. The reason is that the Almighty God watches over the poor and listens to their cry. When you respond to the cry of the poor, you are responding on behalf of their Maker who will in return replenish your pocket. The Bible says in Proverbs 19:17:
“He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.”
Another thing that will happen to someone in divine partnership is that the fellow shall be preserved. The tendency is high and it is common to many cultures that the poor live at the mercy of the rich. In Isaiah 3:14, the Bible says:
“The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.”
So, when someone decides to take care of the poor instead of maltreating them, the Lord will preserve the fellow so that he can continue the good work. The one who panthers with God in taking care of the poor earns longevity for himself. The Lord promised in His Word that whoever spares the poor of violence shall live. The Bible says that the poor shall never cease out of the land, therefore, He commanded us to remember the poor and the needy (Deuteronomy 15:4-11). When we partner with God in taking care of the poor, the Lord will bless us mightily beyond our wildest imagination.
Another blessing which accrues from partnering with God via taking care of the poor, is that the Lord promised to deliver us from the will of our enemies. Every right thinking fellow will do all things possible to keep a dutiful servant alive. Divine healing is the portion of whoever will take it upon himself to care for the poor on behalf of God. The Lord promised to visit the caretakers of the poor on their sick beds if at all they become sick; and when He visits, healing is guaranteed. The Lord also promised to make your bed for you if you will remember the poor and meet him at the point of his or her need. Beloved, there are many ways whereby we can partner with God; caring for the poor is one. We can learn a lesson from developed countries that take care of the poor. They are more comfortable than those countries which have no plan for the poor in the land. This is a food for thought for developing countries.
Action Point: Draw up a charity plan for the poor around you and prayerfully embark on helping them in your own little way.

Open Heavens 12 October 2016: Wednesday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – The Believer’s Authority II

Topic: The Believer’s Authority II [Wednesday 12, October 2016]
Memorise: Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. – Luke 10:19
Read: Luke 10:17-20 (KJV)
17 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
18 And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.
Bible in One Year: Daniel 3:1-4:33, Psalms 78:9-16
 MESSAGE:
As it was pointed out yesterday, the power and authority which Jesus Christ has made available to believers cannot be imagined by natural minds. Some people subject themselves to life-long bondage because they are looking for power and protection outside Jesus. Hebrews 2:14-15 says:
“14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil; 15 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”
One of my spiritual children testified that it was the grace of Jesus Christ that prevented him from entangling himself in occultism. Before he met the Lord, he had determined to join as many secret societies as could be found on the earth, to ensure his security. Fortunately for him, he met the Lord and he is now exercising the authority of a believer.
Beloved, the believer’s authority is yours if you genuinely accept Jesus Christ. This authority was given to us without measure. Our Lord said He has given to us authority over all the powers of the enemy and that nothing will by any means hurt us. When we rely on this, we will live our lives in peace even in the midst of a storm. Our Lord Jesus Christ is in the boat, it will not capsize. However, we must use the authority to our advantage. The story was told of a man who inherited magical powers to ward off evil and dispel whoever might want to harm him on a journey which he set for himself. As he started on the journey, he sighted robbers, instead of putting the magic power to use; he started shivering, and cringing. His wife then burst into a song "encouraging" her husband to keep on shivering because that is how he usually shivers to kill hundreds and thousands. The robbers, taking the song to be true of the man, ran away for their lives. And that was how the woman saved the day for her husband. The lesson we should learn from this story is that, though the authority to conquer the devil and his cohorts are available, unless we exercise it in holy boldness, we remain as powerless as though it isn’t available. To exercise authority over sickness, demonic oppression, poverty and all unpleasant situations, we need to be believers indeed by being born again through faith in Jesus Christ our Saviour. Also, we need to live according to the Word of God. We must be doers of the Word because it is the authority of the Word that we honour that can help us in times of trouble.
Action Point: Begin to exercise faith in the Son of the Living God, and you will experience the supernatural.

DSS has no right to arrest judges, Prof Omaka, SAN insists

By Peter Okutu ABAKALIKI-A Senior Advocate and Professor of Environmental law, Prof. Amari Omaka yesterday stressed the DSS has no powers to make such form of arrests under the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Prof Omaka who lectures in the Law Faculty of Ebonyi State University said even though he does not support any form of corruption by any individual at any level, the manner in which the war against corruption was being pursued particularly in recent times called for concern among well-intentioned Nigerians. “The manner in which the Directorate of State Services has gone about these arrests leaves much to be deserved because I know as a legal practitioner of my standing that there are ways of disciplining erring judges. “So to me, it is a desecration of the highly-honoured judicial system for a DSS to go into their houses to arrest them without any recourse to due process, he said stressing that at the level of the Supreme Court judges, if any of them were invited to come and answer questions on allegations leveled against them, naturally, the person would honour such”. Prof Omaka who is the first and only Senior Advocate from Ebonyi suggested that rather than arrest judges, the proper thing would have been for the DSS to pass through the Chief Justices of the relevant courts of the state to produce whoever it is that has any case against them.

Interesting as 21 Oil wells discovered in Northern Nigeria

The quest for oil in the Lake Chad Basin area of Northern Nigeria is yielding fruitful results as about 21 oil wells out of the 23 drilled so far have potentially of full prospects of oil.
The emerging facts by Authority Newspaper indicated that a total of 23 oil wells have already been drilled by prospecting oil companies that have engaged in oil exploration in the North in the past 30 years.
While 21 of these wells are said to hold some prospects of oil in commercial quantity, only two of the wells reportedly hit a dry run.
Authority Newspaper also gathered that the search for oil in the North has, so far, gulped a whopping sum of about N27 billion and $340 million respectively.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is reportedly gearing up to pump more money into the quest – in compliance with the recent Presidential directive to resume oil exploration in the North.
A recent document prepared by the NNPC, dated October 7, 2016 and marked “up-date” on the oil exploration activities in the Lake Chad Basin also revealed that 33,550 sq km of 3-D seismic data would soon be acquired for processing, in an effort to get a clearer picture of oil reserves in the area.
But the tone of the report shows that the prospects of oil in the North are still mere potentials and remain in the realm of possibilities

Open Heavens 11 October 2016: Tuesday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – The Believer’s Authority I

Memorise: Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. – Luke 9:1
Read: Luke 9:1-6 (KJV)
1 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.
2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.
3 And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece.
4 And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart.
5 And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them.
6 And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where.
Bible in One Year: Daniel 1-2, Psalms 78:1-8
MESSAGE:
A believer’s power and authority are two potent legacies that are highly irresistible beyond any man’s imagination. However, it is unfortunate that many children of God do not recognize them. This is the reason why the devil batters them on every side. As a result of this ignorance, the victor becomes a victim of circumstances. I pray for someone using this devotional; you will never be a victim of circumstances in Jesus’ name.
Power is the ability to perform a function and this is what Jesus Christ has made available to all His genuine disciples. Authority is more valuable than power because you can have the ability to do something, but if you don’t have the authority, you may not be able to. For example, with the power of the gun, you can hunt wildlife in the jungle, but if you are not licensed to hunt and you do, you may be jailed. In John 5:25-27 the Bible says:
“25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live. 26 For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself; 27 And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.”
Interestingly, according to today’s memory verse, this power and the authority to perform have been given to us by our Lord Jesus Christ:
“Then He called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases.” - Luke 9:1
When a (so called) child of God is now caught in situations that are unbecoming of a saint and he then says “it is the work of the devil!” such a believer does not know the authority he has. The power to live above sin is made available through the work of redemption that Jesus Christ wrought at Calvary. The Bible says in 1 John 3:8:
“He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.”
When you come to Jesus Christ and you believe that He came to save you from the power of sin, He will not only forgive you, but will also give you the power to go and sin no more (John 8:11). This is the assurance that we have; that the grace of Jesus Christ will deliver us from the dominion of sin (Romans 6:14). My prayer is that you will not be beaten by the power of sin in Jesus’ name.
Prayer Point: I prophesy to my life: I will no longer be a victim of sin, but a victor in Christ Jesus. Amen.

Going Overboard by Eeddiekhan

Everyone wants to be relevant but sometimes we go a little overboard. We do or say things to get the attention, to steal the show, to stay in the spotlight a little bit longer. There are times we actually do have something important to say but the fact that we do is never enough. Communication is an art. It is twenty percent what you know and eighty percent how you feel about it, how you deliver it and how others feel about it too and if you ever want to drive home your point, you have got to apply wisdom in your approach.
You are at liberty to say whatever you want. It is okay to be blunt. People are known to be blunt, you wouldn’t be the first. It is your call. Some people say it as it is even though they may not get the desired results. Words out. Who cares? Think about this. Words are like sugar and just like sugar, words ought to be refined in order to make it more absorbable.
AnnoyedWomanWithCoworkersInOfficeCubicleShutterstock.jpg
You could be in a situation whereby your opinions or beliefs are being challenged, you do not have to fly off the handle no matter how annoying it can get. Some of us cannot even hide the emotions. It is very difficult staying calm under pressure. Our faces become red and flushed with anger but before you make that move, just breathe. Take your time. Do not be in a hurry to drop the bomb. You may want to answer spitefully out of impatience or resentment but you might end up pushing people away from you which may not have been part of the original plan.
I am all about channelling one’s energy towards some positivity. Consistently working on oneself. The magic won’t happen overnight. I’m still learning how to appear and stay calm myself and everyday there seem to be a new hurdle to jump. There are people whose calling is to get on your nerves. These people do not care whether you are right, they are out to prove you wrong. Don’t stress it.
The experts say that to stay calm, it helps when you count from one to ten. Well, this doesn’t work for me. I only end up digging up ten ways to put a man down. One. A machine gun. Two. Working tools. Three. Guitar strings. Four. Chain saw. Five. Fire. Six. Release the snakes. Seven. Etc and for every time I get upset, I discover ten new ways but I am not a disciple of violence so instead I become the Queen of remixes. In just fifteen seconds, many songs come to mind and I smile like Hillary on the hot seat.(Don’t lie, you do it too!)
hillary.jpg
DJ Khaled pops up in my head and I go:
”All I do is grin grin grin no matter what. Got Gucci on my mind. Making money in my prime. Looking pretty ain’t no crime so when you see me, everybody’s hands go up and they stay there…”
Chamillionaire shows up and I go:
”They see me rolling, they hating. Patrolling, they tryna catch me riding dirty. Tryna catch me riding dirty. Tryna catch me riding dirty. Tryna catch me riding dirty.
My business sold out. They hate it. They hoping that they catch me riding dirty. Tryna catch me riding dirty…”
And then, there is my personal favourite:
”Y’all won’t make me lose my mind up in here. Up in here. Y’all won’t make me go all out. Up in here. Up in here. Y’all won’t make me act a fool. Up in here. Up in here. Y’all won’t make me lose my cool. Up in here. Up in here.” Yea, DMX in the building and no, Baa baa black sheep is NOT on my playlist.

People have different ways of dealing with their anger and two-faced ‘paddies’.
I smile and nod meanwhile I may be negotiating your abduction in my head. Kidding. In reality, no one wants to be bossed around, no one wants to be made a fool of and no one likes to be stepped on like rag.
Say what you want but garnish it with a little bit of respect. Be open minded too. Liberty comes with responsibility and if it is your desire to inspire others to action or induce others to do that which they must, learn to be likeable. Yes, learn. People pay more attention to those they find appealing.
Think of someone who you do not want to ever be friends with, someone you will never vote for, someone you never want to sit at the same table or share a ride with, someone who will never have your kidney. Newsflash. While you are avoiding those kind of people, someone somewhere may be avoiding you probably because of the same reasons. The internet is such a good thing. Social media has taken over connecting people from everywhere and suddenly everyone has been presented with the opportunity to say what is on their mind. Thing is, there will always be people who misuse and abuse the privilege given them by going overboard often disrespecting others, unapologetically poking fun at other people, deliberately being impolite and even nosy in other people’s businesses.
This is totally uncalled for. If you want to remain relevant, let your presence impact positively on another. Respect will come naturally. You just have to be willing to give in order to receive.
The last question in the second U.S. Presidential Debate 2016 resonated in me. That question echoed my thoughts. Unfortunately, I am used to seeing opponents scratch each others eyes out so it came as a surprise to me when both Candidates were asked to name one positive thing that they respect in one another and they did. One talked about the other being a fighter, never giving up, not quitting and that was a trait he admired. The other complimented her opponent’s children as being devoted, an attribute they must have gotten from their father. I admired their honesty. Away from the politics and all the bickering, I was moved.
You see, it is very easy to forget our human side especially during a combat.
In my opinion, it doesn’t matter if we disagree or quibble over pennies. We can’t all think the same way, act the same way or want the same things. We are just individuals on a journey.
The course is far greater and more important than our individual differences or already laid out strategies and in order to make it work, we must be open, less judgmental and criticize constructively when it is necessary. Being rude is totally crude.
You don’t have to go all out trying to make the other person look or feel bad just to buttress a point. You don’t have to annihilate your opponent every chance you get. Adopt a different strategy. Apply wisdom. Try getting rid of your enemy by making him your friend. Your fortress will be made stronger if you can find an ally. Don’t you think so?
Often times in our lives we are cautioned against underestimating the opponent but we fail to acknowledge that that does not in any way mean we should throw away the element of respect.
Haven’t battles been fought and won without the sound of guns? How hard is it to just be rational and nice at the same time?

Monday 10 October 2016

Open Heavens 10 October 2016: Monday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Faith like a Child’s?

Topic: Faith like a Child’s? [Monday 10, October 2016]
Memorise: And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. – Matthew 18:3
Read: Matthew 18:1-6 (KJV)
1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
2 And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name receiveth me.
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Bible in One Year: Ezekiel 46:19-48:35, Psalms 77:11-20
MESSAGE:
The child-like faith is what everybody requires, not only to make it to heaven but also to enjoy his or her days on the earth. If we do not believe this because it sounds illogical, we must believe it because Jesus said it. What is then required of us is to pray for the kind of faith that is comparable with that of a little child. The first thing about a little child is that he is very trusting. In my living room several years ago, there used to be a portrait of a little child looking so innocent with the inscription; “No Problem”. The faith that will enable us not to see problems but see only God who specialises in solving problems is the best for us.
Another characteristic trait of little children is that they forgive easily. Unlike adults who keep malice, children forgive and forget the wrong done to them almost immediately after it’s done. The Bible says in Ephesians 4:32:
“And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”
Children fulfil his Biblical injunction freely. Children could be very generous with their things except in some unusual occasions. Without knowing the spiritual implication of their actions, children are tender hearted with their peers. This is exactly what God wants from us. In Colossians 3:12-13, the Bible also says:
“12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.”
There are many blessings we will access from the throne of God our Father if we can begin to take after children. For example, if we freely forgive those who wrong us like a child will do, our prayers will receive quick answers from God. In Mark 11:25, Jesus Christ said:
“And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
This instruction that comes from our Lord is simply saying that before we pray, we must first forgive! We can see the reason many of our prayers are not answered; we refuse to forgive. I pray that a user of this devotional will find grace to forgive and be kind hearted in Jesus’name.
Prayer Point: Father, please help my faith and transform me to be able to forgive freely and be tender hearted in Jesus’ name.

Super eagles of Nigeria defeated Zambia

Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho got Nigeria off the mark in the 2018 world cup qualification race after strikes in the first half were enough to see off a tough Zambian side in what was an end-to-end encounter. Iwobi volleyed into the back of the net in the 32nd minute while Iheanacho doubled the advantage in the 42nd minute.

Buhari, also a beneficiary of legal technicalities –Olanipekun

In this interview with GBENRO ADEOYE, the former President of the Nigerian Bar Association and former Pro-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), speaks about Nigeria, the economy, the law profession and other issues
You were at one time the President of the Nigerian Bar Association, looking back now, how well do you think the law profession has done since that time?
Before I became the NBA president, I was Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, but I thank God for the NBA. But to me, the NBA should illuminate the darkness of Nigerians. It must act as the voice for the voiceless and the oppressed. To be the NBA leader is not a tea party; it is not like going for a picnic. I cannot see any NBA leader as good if he does not want to step on toes. When I was NBA president, it was under a democratic regime, which was supposed to be rooted in the constitution and constitutionalism. But before then, I belonged to the Alao Aka Bashorun (also a former President of the NBA) dynasty within the NBA. I was one of his boys and I stood by him and with him for the two years that he was president. And I liked his courage and appreciated his carriage. One day, while Femi Falana and I were at his office in Ebute-Meta, the telephone rang. There was no GSM at the time. He pressed the speaker button and from the other end, the person said ‘President’. Then Bashorun asked, ‘who is that?’ The person said ‘my name is Ibrahim’. Femi and I had known by that time that it was General Ibrahim Babangida’s voice. The person then said he was Ibrahim Babangida. Unconsciously, Bashorun stood up. That was reflex action. He said you are the President, sir. But IBB said the President of the NBA is the President of Nigeria. He said the fear of Alao Aka Bashorun was the beginning of wisdom. I’m telling you this so that you understand what the NBA presidency meant to a military dictator, for him to have said that. Babangida then said you are doing well for the NBA but we want you to come and serve. But Bashorun said, Mr. President, forget about that, I’m satisfied being the President of the NBA. He said, but one thing I will request of you. All the decrees that you churn out every day, please can you allow the NBA to have inputs? Can you send us the drafts of the decrees before you sign them? Babangida said Alao, take it as done. And from then on, every decree that Babangida wanted to pass, he would send to the NBA and we would debate it. So I became the NBA president, I knew the background I was coming from. Former President Olusegun Obasanjo was the President but I knew he was a military dictator. He had and still has military traits and tendencies- the military’s ‘know it all’ attitude. So I knew what I was prepared for. Some people thought that because he was a Yoruba President and I was Yoruba NBA President, I would be treating him with kid gloves, no. When we needed to respect him, we respected him and when we needed to criticise him, we criticised him. There was a time we visited him in his office in Aso Villa and he was harassing me while I was reading my speech, he did it three or four times, interjecting me and banging his fist on the table. But I didn’t want to be rude to him. Gen. Abdulsalami Abukakar and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Kanu Agabi (SAN) were there. Obasanjo didn’t allow the press to come in. He was banging the table, saying No! No! No!
What did you say that made him do that?

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu at crossroads politically

By Dele Sobowale From the sublime to the ridiculous there is only one step.”Thomas Paine, 1737-1809. (VANGUARD BOOK OG QUOTES, p236). This time last year, he was the toast of Nigerian politics; the man who had stitched together the contraption called the All Progressives Congress, APC, almost single handedly, to score the first major upset of a sitting African President. No exaggeration of his political sagacity and his brilliance and strategist was regarded as excessive. He was the all-conquering hero and Buhari was just the tool for the realisation of his ambition to rule Aso Rock. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Even the questions raised by some of us regarding the sustainability of the political machine he helped to put together was largely ignored. “In times of victory, prophets are unnecessary distractions”, according to Professor Trevor Roper (VBQ p 204). Still, as far back as August 2013, writing on these pages, long before the choice of presidential candidate was made under the title “IS APC THE ANSWER?” the point had been made then that Nigerians might be going to the polls to vote for an alliance based on fear rather than love. Below are excerpts from that article which is proving prophetic in many respects. Is APC, as presently constituted, the answer? My answer for now is: perhaps not. We may need another political party.

Read: John 3:25-30 (KJV)
25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
Bible in One Year: Ezekiel 44:15-46:18, Psalms 77:1-10
MESSAGE:
For Jesus Christ to be fully formed in us, we must learn the secret of reducing our carnal nature to the level of divine approval. In Colossians 3:5-6, Paul an apostle of Jesus Christ said:
“5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: 6 For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:”
When a person is born, he is born loaded with traits that are in enmity with God and consequently brings His wrath. Another apostle of Christ lists some things that make a typical fallen man; the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eye and the pride of life (1 John 2:15). These are the sins into which the first man and woman fell and we inherited. We must get rid of them if we want Christ to be fully formed in us. The pride of life is a subtle and complex sin for many reasons. Firstly, the proud will never accept that he is proud; this makes the sin very complex until the power of regeneration comes upon the individual. He surrenders his life to Christ for total deliverance. It takes the direct opposite of pride to go to Calvary and confess one’s sins. Moreover, it takes an acceptance of his actions as sinful before the fellow can confess them. Our Lord Jesus Christ spoke on this matter when He told the story of the Pharisee and the Publican in Luke 18:9-14:
“And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner…I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”
In the Bible reading for today, John the Baptist teaches us some lessons, in spite of his position as a prophet, he knew his limitation; he knew his boundary. He pointed his audience to the original Messiah. From his proclamation, we got the title for today’s devotional reading: Jesus must increase while we must decrease. Our carnal man must be mortified so that Jesus Christ can increase in us, and gradually, we shall be transformed to conform to the image of the Son of the living God. Beloved, I want to encourage you to make a decision to decrease, that Jesus may increase. Let the fruits of the Spirits listed in Galatians 5:22 characterise your lifestyle.
Prayer Point: Father, please help me to be transformed to the image of Your Son, Jesus Christ my Saviour.
