16 must read lessons from Evans' saga

Image result for kidnapper evans
For every evil deed…the comeuppance is ‘sure’ to come. It’s a matter of time.
Life always offers a window of repentance to an evil doer. But most of them do not recognise such opportunities and what comes afterwards usually spells doom for them. Evans was said to have had a brush with death in a particularly deadly operation, which decimated some of his group members. That experience should have sobered him up.
The wasted lives of his colleagues should have taught him that it could have been him but NO…Evans went to regroup and even began to name his price in hard currency.
‘It’s mostly on borrowed time’…this is what I thought to myself as I looked through the pictures of his exotic interiors. Even the tooth brushes in Evans’ bathroom spelt ‘dollars’. Yet, the sad realisation is that the day he was captured is most likely his last time with such luxury. What then, is the point of it all?
‘Blood money’ comes with sleepless nights. The extent he went with ‘security and precautionary measures’ doesn’t leave anyone in doubt that every ring of his door bell sends his heart to his mouth. If it costs your rest of mind…it is not worth it.
Evil minds are incapable of going down alone. Anybody who has the mind to inflict unimaginable ‘suffering’ on another can never spare you (no matter how close you are to them)-when push comes to shove. If they have to go down, you are coming along. Did Evans hesitate before ‘singing’ about the participation of his wife (yes the mother of his five children) in his ‘business’?
Every ruthless criminal is a coward at heart.  Some of the pictures show that Evans actually peed on himself-when he was captured in his bedroom.
‘‘Evans the kidnapper’’ was the most ‘googled’ words (from this side of the world) when he was captured. But a lot of that curiosity is actually out of ‘awe’ by some people who couldn’t believe Evans’ ‘luck’ before now. And it shows that a lot of people (in this environment) have skewed orientation towards vain glory and wealth acquisition.
The ransom that Evans collected from some of his victims is enough to liquidate even a Dangote.
Most people are not worth your envy…there could be more to that ‘enviable’ lifestyle.
When your time is up…even life will help push you to your end. Think of the premonition that made Evans relocate his family to Ghana, the forces that brought him back and made him plan his proposed escape to South Africa only a day late.
Blood money/Ill gotten wealth? Their ‘vanishing’ can be the easiest. Evans had been amassing his ill gotten wealth for about a decade but it would take one fell swoop (in a matter of hours) for him to lose practically everything.
You have no right bringing any child that your name will become a STIGMA on- into this world. What you are giving to such a child is a ‘life time trauma.’
If Evans ends up going down alone. Life must go on for ‘wify’. Always think about this whenever an unreasonable spouse tries pushing you into doing ‘the questionable’.
If all that ingenuity, passion, hard work and dedication in doing evil (over that length of time) was channelled positively…Evans would probably be amongst the richest Nigerian youths today. For every effort expended on dishonest means…a better reward rests with the opposite.
Suspect a spouse who maintains no ties with any relatives…especially parents and siblings.

Every ‘bad person’ wants to repent when caught. Anyway, Evans can rot (sorry ‘repent’) in jail…there are ‘born-agains’ there too!

Open Heavens 17 June 2017: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Sin: So Destructive

Topic — Sin: So Destructive [Saturday 17, June 2017]

Memorise: There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. – Proverbs 14:12

Read: John 5:2-14 (KJV)

2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.

3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

10 The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

11 He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

12 Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

13 And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

Bible in One Year: Judges 5-6, Jeremiah 50:4-16, Hymn: Sing hymn 11

MESSAGE:

As harmless as sin may appear sometimes, we should not be deceived, knowing how destructive it can be. Every act of sin comes with a sentence of death (Romans 6:23). If you do not want to die through separation from God, sin is something you must flee from. 2 Timothy 2:19 says,

“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”

If you are living in sin, God cannot call you His. If you want Him to identify with you, then you must deliberately separate yourself from sin. If you are truly born again, you cannot continue in sin (Romans 6:1-2). Sin is not as trivial as people suggest; it is deadly! May God completely deliver you from the reins of sin!

Moreover, sin is a carrier of death (1 Corinthians 15:56). If you live in sin, death sets in. The death that sin brings can affect every facet of your life. Take for instance the impotent man who had been sick for 38 years, who was kept by the sheep market pool. During his second encounter with Jesus, after he had been healed, the Lord told him something fundamental in John 5:14:

“Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.”

From this statement, we know that the sin(s) this man committed brought on the paralysing sickness he suffered for 38 years. He contacted this illness as a result of sin and had to relocate from his house, family and friends to live in a colony of the sick. He tried 38 times to receive his healing, without success. Sin, through this sickness, devoured his life. Assuming he was meant to live for 70 years, what would be left after losing 38 years to sickness? Sin separated him from what God had originally planned for his life and made him completely useless to himself and everyone else. He was stagnant and in bondage for 38 years! As a result of his sin, he was forsaken by his friends and loved ones. Sin is so terrible!

Do you know that many believers are in a mess today, but instead of first looking inwards to discover if they caused it by their sins, they begin to look out for external culprits: an enemy, witch or wizard that may not even exist. Are you in a terrible state? Examine yourself and find out if your sin is the cause; thereafter turn to God, repent and surrender your life to Jesus.

Action Point: Examine every long-running issue in your life to determine if sin is the cause and take appreciate action on it.

Open Heavens 16 June 2017: Friday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Experiencing Wonders

Topic: Experiencing Wonders [Friday 16, June 2017]

Memorise: Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? –Exodus 15:11

Read: Daniel 6:21-28 (KJV)

21 Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.

22 My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

23 Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God.

24 And the king commanded, and they brought those men which had accused Daniel, and they cast them into the den of lions, them, their children, and their wives; and the lions had the mastery of them, and brake all their bones in pieces or ever they came at the bottom of the den.

25 Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you.

26 I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end.

27 He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.

28 So this Daniel prospered in the reign of Darius, and in the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

Bible in One Year: Judges 3-4, Jeremiah 49:28-50:3, Hymn: Sing hymn 3

MESSAGE:

Our God is not only a wonder, He also works wonders! After the Lord performed wonders by parting the Red Sea, Moses and the children of Israel sang a new song to the Lord in Exodus 15:11 saying:

“Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders?”

Also, after God miraculously delivered Daniel from the lions’ den, King Darius passed a decree that in every domain of his kingdom, this awesome God must be feared and revered. In Daniel 6:27, he said,

“He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions.”

The God that King Darius spoke of is still the same today. He is full of wonders. No wonder He is called Wonderful (Isaiah 9:6). Are you in need of a miracle, sign or wonder? Call upon this great God and He will surely deliver you. He can still do great wonders in your life today.

You need to come to terms with the reality that God can perform wonders in your own life. In other words, you too can be a beneficiary of His wonders. It is a known fact that a person can be rich and yet be stingy. Where I come from, when talking to a rich and arrogant man, it is common for people to say, “Yes, I know you are rich, but you are not the one feeding me.” In other words, “your wealth is of no benefit to me, so go and perish with your money.” God can be a God of wonders who also does wonders, but if He has not done wonders in your own life, His ability may seem like fairy tales to you. In Genesis 18:9-14, He met a 90 year-old woman and said: “I know you are 90, and I know your monthly cycle stopped several years ago, but you are going to have a son.” The woman replied, “I don’t believe you!” God said, “It doesn’t matter whether you believe or not; I am the Wonder-Working God, and I will go ahead to do what I just promised.” A year later, she had her baby. God’s wonder-working ability became real to her. Beloved, you are the next candidate to benefit from this Wonderful God! This season, the God of wonders shall show up in your situation and turn things around! You shall experience the reality of His wonderful power. Call on Him today, and He will answer you.

Prayer Point: Father, as You did for Daniel, perform an outstanding miracle in my life that will compel nations of the world to amend their laws in honour of You.

Nigeria Has Surpased Angola In Africa Oil Exportation

Nigeria has surpassed Angola to regain the top position as the largest oil exporter in Africa, a title it lost to Angola in 2016 after a huge incurred loss caused by militant attacks on the nation’s oil infrastructure in the Niger Delta region.

The good news was revealed after Nigeria’s crude oil exports disclose that were set to reach 1.84 million barrels per day (BPD) in July.
According to the nation’s loading programmes compiled by Reuterson Wednesday, the new figure is slightly higher because of a recovery in Forcados exports.

The Forcados exports which were shutdown since February 2016 resumed at the end of May 2017.

Meanwhile, the grade’s operator, Shell’s local subsidiary SPDC, issued an initial June schedule of 197,000 bpd. But It, however, increased the schedule to 252,000 bpd.

It was also revealed that since the peaceful negotiations with leaders from the Niger Delta region, production has since improved with plans for June and July likely to change.

However, Angola’s July exports are expected to be 1.55 million bpd, Reuters reports.

Topic: One Sound, Two Messages [Thursday 15, June 2017]

Memorise: And gave them the lands of the heathen: and they inherited the labour of the people; – Psalm 105:44

Read: 2 Kings 7:1-11 (KJV)

1 And the sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too strait for us.

2 Let us go, we pray thee, unto Jordan, and take thence every man a beam, and let us make us a place there, where we may dwell. And he answered, Go ye.

3 And one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy servants. And he answered, I will go.

4 So he went with them. And when they came to Jordan, they cut down wood.

5 But as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water: and he cried, and said, Alas, master! for it was borrowed.

6 And the man of God said, Where fell it? And he shewed him the place. And he cut down a stick, and cast it in thither; and the iron did swim.

7 Therefore said he, Take it up to thee. And he put out his hand, and took it.

8 Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

9 And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that thou pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.

10 And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and warned him of, and saved himself there, not once nor twice.

11 Therefore the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled for this thing; and he called his servants, and said unto them, Will ye not shew me which of us is for the king of Israel?

Bible in One Year: Judges 1-2, Jeremiah 49:14-27, Hymn: Sing hymn 4

MESSAGE:

A sound from Heaven is all you need to turn a very hopeless situation into a glorious one. We have an example of this in today’s Bible reading. One lesson here is that whenever things deteriorate to their worst level; know that a turning point is around the corner. Don’t cry, just worship God and thank Him in the midst of the difficulty, asking Him to show you what to do to turn things around. Also, from this story, we see that God can release one sound from Heaven and while His children hear something positive, their enemies would hear something else. Things were so bad in Samaria because there was no more food, to the extent that some women began to eat their own children to survive. Have things gone so bad for you that to afford a meal you would have to sell some of your property? There is a user of this Devotional, because things have gone so bad, you have virtually sold all your properties in order to survive. The Lord is turning your situation around now. Within the next 90 days, all the things you have sold shall be replaced with better ones. When this comes to pass in your life, endeavour to testify of it before the congregation of God’s people.

It was in the midst of hopelessness that a sound came from heaven through Elisha, declaring that within 24 hours, abundance would replace lack. Literarily speaking, it meant that within 24 hours, there would be so much food that it would be almost free. Responding to that prophecy which they didn’t even hear, some four lepers decided to take their chances by going to the camp of the besieging army to see if they would pity them and give them some food. As they went, the noise from their feet was taken up to Heaven, amplified and released into the camp of the enemy. So what happened? While God’s people heard that abundance would swallow up their acute lack with 24 hours, the enemies heard the sound of a very mighty army coming to surround them and wipe them out completely. They fled immediately and left behind everything they had, which became available to God’s people almost free. This season, all your enemies holding back your blessings shall hear a sound from Heaven and leave you everything that is yours alone! I speak abundance into your life now in Jesus’ Name! If there is any siege that has surrounded your life for so long, hindering your progress, I command it to be lifted now in Jesus’ Name. Receive freedom to expand your coast from today in Jesus Mighty Name. It is well with you!

Prayer Point: Father, as You speak peace to me, speak trouble and war to my enemies.

London fire: Flames engulf tower block

Media captionImages show the scale of the fire spreading to all floors
Thirty people are in hospital and there are fears that more may be unaccounted for after a huge fire raged through the night at a west London tower block. From BBC
Firefighters are still tackling the blaze at Grenfell Tower in north Kensington, where hundreds of people are thought to live.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing people trapped inside their homes.
The BBC's Andy Moore said the whole 24-storey block had been alight and there were fears the building might collapse.
Eyewitnesses said they saw lights - thought to be mobile phones or torches - flashing at the top of the block of flats, and trapped residents coming to their windows.
The Met Police has set up an emergency number on 0800 0961 233 for anyone concerned about friends or family.
Media captionEyewitness: 'We've seen people blinking lights within the building'
At 06:15 BST, London Ambulance Service said 20 ambulance crews had been at the scene, 30 people had been taken to hospital, but the nature and level of their injuries was not yet clear.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan said a "major incident" had been declared.
Three hours after the fire started, police said people were continuing to be evacuated from the tower.
Media captionDavid Benjamin says he was woken by a neighbour banging on the door
Paul Munakr, who lives on the seventh floor, managed to escape.
"As I was going down the stairs, there were firefighters, truly amazing firefighters that were actually going upstairs, to the fire, trying to get as many people out the building as possible," he told the BBC.
He said he was alerted to the fire not by fire alarms but by people on the street below, shouting "don't jump, don't jump".
"Now, honestly I don't know for certain if people jumped off the building to get away from the fire, but the main thing for me with this incident is the fact that the fire alarms didn't go off in the building," he said.
Eyewitness Jody Martin said: "I watched one person falling out, I watched another woman holding her baby out the window...hearing screams.
"I was yelling at everyone to get down and they were saying 'We can't leave our apartments, the smoke is too bad on the corridors.'"
The BBC's Andy Moore said: "We've seen debris falling from the building, we've heard explosions, we've heard the sound of glass breaking.
"The police keep pushing back their cordons, pushing back members of the public for fear the building might collapse."

London Fire Brigade assistant commissioner Dan Daly said firefighters were "working extremely hard in very difficult conditions to tackle this fire".
"This is a large and very serious incident and we have deployed numerous resources and specialist appliances."
London Ambulance Service medics specially trained in life-saving medical care in hazardous environments have also been sent to the fire.
The first reports of fire in the tower, in Latimer Road, on the Lancaster West Estate, came in at 00:54 BST.
The A40 Westway was closed in both directions. London Underground said the Hammersmith and City and Circle lines have been closed between Edgware Road and Hammersmith.

Safety concerns

According to Kensington and Chelsea Council, the tower block contains 120 flats and is 24 storeys high.
It is managed by the Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Organisation (KCTMO) on behalf of the council and had undergone a two-year, £10m refurbishment that was completed last year.
The work included new exterior cladding and a communal heating system.
The local Grenfell Action Group had claimed, before and during the refurbishment, the block constituted a fire risk and residents had warned that access to the site for emergency vehicles was "severely restricted".
The BBC has been unable to contact the property's management company in the hours since the fire.

One eyewitness, George Clarke, the presenter of Channel 4 TV programme Amazing Spaces, told Radio 5 Live: "I'm getting covered in ash, that's how bad it is.
"I'm 100 metres away and I'm absolutely covered in ash.
"It's so heartbreaking, I've seen someone flashing their torches at the top level and they obviously can't get out."
Jody Martin said he ran towards the building to try and help when he saw the fire.
He said he was shouting at people to "get out, get out" but that residents were shouting back that they were stuck as corridors inside the building were filled with smoke.

'Building crumbling'

Tim Downie, another eyewitness, told the BBC part of the building was "completely burned away".
"It has burned through to its very core," he said.
"It looks very bad, very very bad. I've never seen anything like this. It's just such a big fire.
"The whole building is just crumbling. It's just billowing black smoke."
Safiyah, who is about 500m away from the building, said: "There are lots of people gathered in the street. I just see more and more flames burning and tragically I hear people crying for help.
"The entire building is burning through."
