Disgraced Afren Ex CEO, COO Cough up $20m to Avoid Criminal Charges
The booming Oil and gas firm Afren will receive $20m (£13m) from its former chief executive and chief operating officer, who were fired in October for carrying on iniquitous financial dealings.
In a statement to the London Stock Exchange, the firm says:"Afren has entered in to settlement agreements with Mr Shahenshah and Mr Ullah which release them of claims relating to the unauthorised payments. As a result of such settlement, the company has agreed not to pursue legal proceedings against Mr Shahenshah and Mr Ullah in connection with the claims relating to the unauthorised payments."

Nigeria's Vincent Enyeama named best goalkeeper in France
Super Eagles and Nigeria skipper Vincent Enyeama has been named as the best goalkeeper in the French League for 2014.
French newspaper, L’Equipe has for the second successive year picked the Nigerian international as the best, following his exploits for his club, LOSC Lille.
He emerged tops over PSG's goalkeeper Salvatore Sirigu, whom last season was chosen as the best goalkeeper for the 2013/2014 football season in France by the French Football authorities.
Enyeama finished last campaign with 21 clean sheets, although the first of half of the 2014/2015 season has not been joyous for the 32-year old.
The former Enyimba and Heartland goalkeeper is in contention for the 2014 African player of the year Award which will be announced next week in Lagos.

Man decapitates mother with axe on New Year’s Eve
His brother called police to report the gruesome scene and when the police arrived, they discovered the headless body of 48 year old Maria Suarez-Cassagne (pictured right) near some garbage cans. Christian, who is said to be schizophrenic and has a history of mental illness, had fled in a bicycle before the police arrived but was arrested a few blocks away from the home.
When arrested, Florida police claim Christian admitted to killing his mother, saying he had been plotting his mother's murder for two days because he was tired of her nagging. He'd hit his mother over the head with the axe, then cut her head off her in the garage and then dragged the body to the garbage outside the home.

God says Ebola will die out in 2015 – Pastor Adeboye
The General Overseer, Nigeria’s Redeemed Christian Church of God, RCCG, Pastor Enoch Adeboye says God told him that the deadly Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, will die out this year.’
Speaking at the Cross Over night at the Redemption Camp, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State around 1.20 am today, Adeboye said “God says Ebola will die out in 2015.”
Adeboye also said God told him that insurgency would be considerably weakened all over the world this year, adding that God said there would be many scientific and medical breakthrough, particularly in the areas “of lack of sleep, dream and brain disorder.”

ABUJA — As political parties kicked off campaigns for next month’s general elections in the country, President Goodluck Jonathan talked tough yesterday, saying his administration will not tolerate the kind of orgy of violence that trailed the 2011 elections in the forth-coming elections.

In a new year message to Nigerians, President Jonathan said his administration was resolutely committed to a free and fair election.
Jonathan said: “Decisive action will be taken against any individuals or groups who attempt to disrupt the public peace before, during or after the 2015 elections.
“The elections are very important for us as a country. Their successful conclusion will further strengthen our democratic institutions and place our beloved country even more firmly in the comity of truly democratic nations.
