Open Heavens 20 August 2016: Saturday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Power in the Word to save

Topic: Power in the Word to save [Saturday 20, August 2016]
Memorise: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. – John 6:63
Read: Hebrew 4:12 (KJV)
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Bible in One Year: Isaiah 40:9-42:25, Psalms 37:33-40
MESSAGE:
Just as physical energy is generated by physical food, spiritual energy is generated by looking into the Word of God. The Word of God is the source of life. Without the Word, there is no way we can cultivate a good relationship with the Almighty God. The Word of God is the secret of every hidden treasure, and until you engage the Word, you will be operating at the level of ‘ordinary’. Those that are in the flesh will always be under the power of the carnal mind but those that are in the spirit will always allow the Word of God to guide and direct them. It is the Spirit of God that brings the body to life through His Word. It is this Word that gives us an understanding of what one must do to be saved from the destruction to come. It is with this Word that you defend yourself against every arrow of the enemy. It is with this Word that you engage the devil under any situation and circumstance. The amount of God’s Word you have in you is how much of God you carry and when you carry God inside of you, then you have the assurance of victory on all fronts. There is so much power in the Word to save and to set one free from every bondage and satanic oppression.
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” - Hebrew 4:12
The Word of God as the shepherd staff should not be rejected or compromised if the sheep will not be lost finally without remedy. There are many people today who do not allow their lives to be governed by the Word of God and they also live to see the consequences of their decisions. An Apostle of Jesus Christ wrote that all scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for instruction in righteousness. When we open our lives to the Word of God, there is salvation for us from every path of destruction, because the Word will redirect us to where we will find safety for our lives.
When we open our lives to the Word of God, we are corrected, rebuked, warned and guided away from the path of perdition. With this, we are saved from the hands of the wolves of this world that are looking for those to devour. There is great joy in the Word if we are disciplined enough to hold onto it. As long as we look unto that Word of liberty, there will be no fear in our hearts because He that watches us is committed to delivering us from the horrors of sin and death. How do you gain access to the Word that guarantees salvation from the destruction of life? It is by reading and meditating on the Word of God,
“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” - 2 Timothy 2:15
To study is to work at what you have read with the purpose of understanding, retaining and utilising the information. There is great depth in the Word of God. The Word creates (Genesis 1:3). I decree into your life; every area where darkness has interrupted the plan and purpose of God for your life will be flooded with light in Jesus’ name.
Key Point: It is the Word that you honour that delivers.

Usain Bolt won the men's 200m to claim his second Rio 2016 gold, his eighth at an Olympics, and keep alive his hopes of an unprecedented 'treble treble'.
The Jamaican ran 19.78 seconds to come home ahead of Canada's Andre de Grasse and France's Christophe Lemaitre.
Britain's Adam Gemili clocked the same time as Lemaitre, but was denied his first Olympic medal.

Open Heavens 19 August 2016: Friday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Cumbered with Depression?

Topic: Cumbered with Depression? [Friday 19, August 2016]
Memorise: But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers. – 1 Kings 19:4
Read: 1 Kings 19:1-8 (KJV)
1 And Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.
2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to morrow about this time.
3 And when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beersheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.
4 But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.
5 And as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.
6 And he looked, and, behold, there was a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water at his head. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.
7 And the angel of the LORD came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat; because the journey is too great for thee.
8 And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.
Bible in One Year: Isaiah 37:14-40:8, Psalms 37:21-33
MESSAGE:
Depression is a deep sense of despondency, discouragement and sadness that is often linked with a sense of personal helplessness, a loss of meaning in life and enthusiasm for living. Some common symptoms of depression include self-condemnation, deep sorrow, a loathing of life and a desire to end it. Bible records show evidence of depression in the behaviour of some personalities such as Elijah. King Saul, King David, Jonah, Hagar, Judas Iscariot, etc. Today’s memory verse says,
“But he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O LORD, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.” - 1 Kings 19:4
 The devil is very bad. It is absolutely impossible to believe that the person credited with the above statement was the same Elijah, who just a few hours before stood against 400 prophets of Baal, and with the help of God, destroyed them all. Before the dust of the celebrations could settle, the devil had succeeded in driving fear and discouragement into him. He suddenly lost confidence in the God that performed such as marvellous miracle that shook the entire country. Depression got hold of him at such a fast rate that within hours of celebrating victory, his mood had swung to the extreme of requesting to die. Some of the prevailing conditions that could lead to depression so quickly include, serious sin, loss of sense of God’s presence, fear of failure, oppression, threats, fear of judgment, loneliness and deep sorrow. I decree in the Name that is above all other names; the Lord is bringing you out of depression today. The joy of the Lord is your strength. Just hold on to the Word of God in Philippians 4:6-7 that says;
“6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Prayer Point: Father, please completely destroy the power of depression in my life in Jesus’ name.

US swimmers case in Rio: What we know

captionA lawyer for Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger said the pair were "shaken"
The CCTV footage seems routine. Four swimmers, fresh from celebrating their final competitions, return to the Olympic village in the early hours of the morning. They pass through the metal detector, taking items from their pockets - possibly wallets and phones - as they go. They appear relaxed.
But this short, unremarkable clip is now at the centre of an Olympic mystery and a police investigation because according to the four US Olympic gold medal winners - Ryan Lochte, Jimmy Feigen, Jack Conger, and Gunnar Bentz - they had just been robbed at gunpoint at a petrol station.
It seemed like a simple story at first, but the athletes' account has now been contradicted by Rio police who say they have evidence that the men were involved in a fight at the petrol station after one of them vandalised a toilet door, and that they invented the robbery to cover it up.
Lochte is now back in the US, Conger and Bentz were pulled off their plane by Brazilian police, and Feigen is also in Brazil and says he is co-operating with the authorities.
Since the story began on Sunday morning 14 August, it has taken more than a few twists and turns.

◾US swimmers 'damaged petrol station door'
The story emerges
On Sunday afternoon, six or so hours after the swimmers returned to the village. USA Today and Fox Sports Australia, citing Mr Lochte's mother, reported that four US athletes have been robbed on their way back from partying at Club France, part of the French hospitality area.

Donald Trump statue unveiled in US with caption "Emperor has no balls"

For much of the past year, Donald Trump proved uniquely untouchable, a political force of such mind-boggling invulnerability that he even bragged about attracting voters after hypothetically shooting someone on Fifth Avenue.
Hoping to strip away the Teflon Don’s legendary confidence to reveal the fleshy mortal beneath the expensive suits and long ties, members of the anarchist collective INDECLINE decided they would showcase the aspirant president in the most humiliating way they could imagine: without his clothes.
The group unveiled life-size statues of Trump in the nude Thursday morning in public spaces in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Cleveland and Seattle.

Article: Doyin Okupe, the PDP & the futility of compromise - by Femi Fani-Kayode

When I warned the Nigerian people about what the APC represented and that, if given power, they would be the most reactionary, repressive, vindictive, insensitive, vicious, thin-skinned, paranoid, divisive and, worse of all, incompetent government in the history of Nigeria no-one listened.
When I told the people that the leaders of the APC were not only unfit to hold power but  that they were also Nigeria's local equivalent to Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood no-one listened.
When I warned the people that their initial plan was to field a Muslim/Muslim ticket for the 2015 presidential election (until public outrage killed the idea) no-one listened.
When I told the people about the future implications of the dangerous sectarian seed that the APC was planting in our politics by openly encouraging Muslim clerics in the north to preach in the mosques that a vote for Jonathan was a vote for an "infidel" and when I pointed out the fact that all those that supported the PDP from the north would eventually be subjected to violence and persecution and labelled as  "traitors", "heretics" and "unbelievers" no-one listened.
When I warned our people about the limitations of President Muhammadu Buhari and what he would do if trusted with power no-one listened.

When I warned the PDP leadership and particularly our PDP governors and Board of Trustee members about the dangers of making Ali Modu Sheriff National Chairman of our party they would not listen.
When I warned them to remove him immediately and not to let him stay as National Chairman for the three months that he asked for they would not listen.
When I told them that the government would NOT allow the National Convention of the party to hold on 17th August or indeed at any other time, no matter what, because Sheriff is working for them they would not listen.
Now I have been proved right and vindicated on all fronts. Let us consider what took place in Port Harcourt on the day of the convention.  In collusion with some questionable judges the Buhari administration set out to destabilise, destroy and silence the opposition.
It was well planned, well-orchestrated and well-executed. Governors were temporarily barred from moving around freely and were essentially put under house arrest.
The convention venue was sealed off and delegates were prevented from entering the stadium by gun-wielding mobile police men and soldiers. It was not only a show of shameful, naked brute force but it was also thoroughly evil.
Let me make a another prediction: this is just the beginning of their tyranny. It will get far worse. That is "mai chanji" for you!
The sooner the leaders of the PDP wake up, smell the coffee and appreciate the kind of monster they are dealing with and the sooner they elect and select leaders that are prepared to risk their lives and liberty to confront this government the better.
If you want democracy and freedom you must be prepared to confront the dictator and fight for it. Where there is no justice, there can be no peace. Where there is no freedom, there can be no development.
Where there is no equity, there can be no progress. Our land has been turned into a barren and poverty-striken shell of its former-self by President Buhari's administration.
They have stripped away the glory of our nation, ruined the economy, created ethnic and religious divisions, impoverished the people, brought tears to the eyes of the down-trodden, dashed the hopes and dreams of the young and destroyed the destiny of millions.
The only thing that is left for them to do is to crush the leading opposition party and to attempt to silence, humiliate, discredit, destroy, jail or even kill every single opposition leader that remains vocal.
That is where Senator Ali Modu Sheriff comes in and that is why his disruptive  role and questionable mission in the PDP is of so much interest and so useful to the government.
That Sheriff has turned into the proverbial stubborn bone that is stuck in the throat of the PDP is no longer news.
The role and noble efforts of the Senator Makarfi-led Caretaker Commitee have been exemplary and commendable and, in my view, they have earned the support and affection of every loyal party leader and member.
I am not surprised by that because I happen to have known Senator Makarfi, Senator Ben Obi (the Secretary of the Committee) and Hon. Minister Dayo Adeyeye (the Publicity Secretary) for many years and I can attest to the fact that they are all profoundly good men who are very restrained in their manner and approach to complicated issues and who are not only experienced but also rational, reasonable and balanced.
Yet despite their efforts the question that still needs to be answered is how best to handle Ali Modu Sheriff.
Dr. Doyin Okupe, a man for whom I have the greatest respect and affection and one of the most formidable and credible leaders in our party, suggested on his Facebook wall that we should "negotiate" with Sheriff with a view to settling this issue.
He has also said that we should "not blame Buhari and the APC for our woes" but rather we should blame ourselves. He may be right on the latter point but I beg to respectfully and humbly differ with him on the former.
There can be no question of any further negotiation with Sheriff.  My response to him, which was posted on his Facebook page and on twitter, reads as follows:
"My dearest brother, I beg to differ with you on your suggestion that we must negotiate with the former National Chairman of our party Ali Modu Sheriff.
If you remember I warned the governors about Shetiff when they imposed him on us. The PDP Ministers Forum rejected him as did the PDP Board of Trustees did at the initial stage but the governors would not listen.
Now we have been vindicated because everything that we said would happen has come to pass.
The imposition of Sheriff by the Governors Forum was the biggest mistake that we have made since President Goodluck Jonathan and the then leadership of our party conceeded the election to Buhari without at least contesting the matter in court.
Frankly, as I wrote at the time, I believe that Sheriff bewitched the governors that brought him to us and indeed those in our party that accepted him and agreed to work with him. Now the power of the spell has worne off and their eyes have opened.
Sadly though things will get worse because Sheriff is under orders: he is working a script and that script was crafted by those who commissioned him to divide, weaken and kill our party.
When you open your doors to a snake what do you expect? I am not surprised by all that he is doing because he is acting true to type: he is a green snake who has dipped his fangs deeply into our flesh and whose poison is kiling us slowly.
The truth is that there can never be any compromise with Sheriff. You cannot compromise with the devil or a snake.
You cannot wine and dine or attempt to cohabit with a creature that the great writer and teacher, Mr. David Icke, describes as a "shape-shifting sociopath and reptilian".
There can be no felllowship between light and darkness even in politics. You cannot negotiate with a narcicistic meglomaniac who wants your head to be cut off and served to him on a silver platter. Sheriff is working for Buhari to destroy the PDP and he has almost succeeded in his mission.
The only solution to this intractible and difficult problem is for us to continue to fight him in the courts and elsewhere and, if push comes to shove, form another political party, get our members and supporters to join that party and leave the desperate old scavanger to feed on the carcass of the old PDP.
Very few people will stay with him because, after some time, carcasses tend to stink and because he is the quintessential plague.
After some time even his most diehard supporters will get sick of him, run away and abandon him.
Permit me to conclude with the following counsel. We must never attempt to appease a bully and a tyrant: it encourages him in his tyranny and it gives him pleasure. To the bully, compromise is seen as nothing more than weakness.
We must be prepared to stand up, stand firm and speak out against the evil that has gripped our land till the very end knowing that the Lord is with us and that He will never forsake us.
If necessary, we must also be prepared to pay the price for doing so because the future of our nation and our children depends on it. We must not waiver.
We must hold the line, firm in the knowledge that no matter how dark the night, joy comes in the morning. We must never forget that our God is mighty in battle and that with Him all things are possible.  He makes a way where there seems to be no way.
As always please send my love to my beautiful sister and the children. Fondest thoughts egbon. Shalom".

Motivation: Tell It To Him Still

A Promise For You From Bible Promises:
Topic: Tell It To Him Still [18/08/2016]
And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus answered and said unto him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. Mark 10:47,51. Read: Mk 10:47-52
Our heavenly father is Omniscience God, He knows everything and can do all things. He knows and understand what you and I are going through in this passing World, He knows your struggles and troubles; He knows the frailty of humanity. He knows what I am going through, why did He fold His hands and watch us suffer this way is always the question man ask? This question is not new, Gideon asked the angel the same question, but the angel replied, God is with you, go in this your might. This tells us that God is aware, understands and cares about what you're going through right now.
It's interesting to know that, even when God is aware of what you need in life, He expects you to make request for it. You must tell it to Him. Jesus was aware that Bartimaeus needed his sight, He didn't just jump on him but asked him, What wilt thou that I should do unto thee? He replied, The blind man said unto him, Lord, that I might receive my sight. And it was so unto him because God said, "Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you": Num 14:28.

Open Heavens 18 August 2016: Thursday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – That we may be Rich

Topic: That we may be Rich [Thursday 18, August 2016]
Memorise: For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich. – 2 Corinthians 8:9
Read: John 10:9-11 (KJV)
9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
Bible in One Year: Isaiah 34:1-37:13, Psalms 37:1-20
MESSAGE:
The death of Jesus was for a purpose and that purpose is to ensure that you fulfil your destiny. Jesus sacrificed Himself for your redemption. He took your place and gave you His. It is upon this arrangement that you have access to all that He provided. The death of Jesus was not in vain, it is a substitution for all your human weaknesses and deficiencies. God is not only interested in making you saved; He is interested in you having all that is available in the salvation package. I decree that whatever will not make you enjoy the full benefits of salvation shall be destroyed in Jesus’ name. Just for your sake, Jesus was born into very poor circumstances, He lived a poor life and died in poverty; and all these was that such things do not happen in your life. He voluntarily did all that, so that you might be rich. The riches even cover your divine health; by His stripes you are healed. I command every sickness and disease operating in your body to be uprooted in Jesus’ name. His death is so that you might be rich in deliverance. There are many people attending deliverance services but are yet to be free. If you appropriate the death of Jesus into your situation, there should be freedom for you.
“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” - John 8:32
As believers of the new covenant, you are to be rich in the love and favour of the Almighty God. You are to be rich in the blessing and promises of the new covenant. You are to be rich in your expectation of eternal life. When you give your life to Jesus Christ, there is happiness in your life not only by the things you have but by the experience you have in Him. The Lord Jesus becomes the shepherd of your soul and He guarantees your protection so that you enjoy the riches of His divine security. Nothing scares you any longer because He that now watches over your soul does not sleep nor slumber. You become rich in abundance and the yoke of poverty becomes destroyed. You will be practically guided on how to enjoy the benefits of His riches through His goodness and mercy.
This is why you must not allow the devil see your life as being vacant. The devil is out to kill, to steal and to destroy but when you give Jesus a chance in your life, you will experience a turnaround from poverty to wealth. The devil has nothing good to offer you. In the end, his offers lead to destruction and disgrace, but the riches of God are permanent. The Joy of God is real; the peace of God is timeless. The abundance of God is not a function of economic indices. The longevity of life has nothing to do with keeping to medical prescriptions. The security of God has nothing to do with human elements. All these benefits are part of the riches He gave to you on the cross of Calvary but they become activated when you accept Him as your personal Lord and Saviour.
Key Point: If you don’t know your rights, you cannot enjoy them.

Rio 2016.. Nigeria 0 - Germany 2

Germany has qualified for the finals of the football event at Rio 2016 after demolishing Nigeria 2-0 in the semi-final tonight August 17th.

The Germans scored in the 9th minute through Lukas Klostermann and pressured from then on as the Nigerian defensive line looked shaky and lacked some solidity, if not for the hard work of Troost Ekong at the backline, the African champions would have conceded more goals...

At half time, Germany led Nigeria 1-0  but Nigeria created a few chances in the final 10 minutes to give their opponents something to think about at the break.

The second half started with Samson Siasia not making any change and the team showed some liveliness and more tactical awareness after the break. But after some indecisive play by Nigeria's front line through out the second half, they were made to pay for their blushes by Nils Petersen in the 89th minute after a stunning counter attack that left only Troost Ekong as the defensive cover for Nigeria's goalkeeper.

Nigeria's players looked distraught at the final whistle but will have some consolation in the fact that they will play Honduras in the third place match for a Bronze medal.

They didn’t have it all their own way but eventually Germany saw off Nigeria and will play Brazil at the Maracanã in a mouth-watering gold medal match two years on from that famous 7-1 thrashing in the 2014 World Cup.

Congratulations to our Nigerian players, they tried to get this far!

Donald Trump defends Milwaukee police shooting

US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has said initial evidence suggests the shooting of a black man by police in Milwaukee was justified.
The killing of Sylville Smith in a predominantly African-American part of the city on Saturday led to protests.
"We have to obey the laws or we don't have a country," Mr Trump told Fox News after visiting police in the city. He later addressed a rally there.
A string of fatal police shootings have sparked demonstrations across the US.
Protesters say the police are too ready to use lethal force against African Americans.

In the latest incident, Mr Smith, 23, was stopped by police and then fled.
Officials said he was shot because he was carrying an illegal handgun and had refused to drop it.
"The gun was pointed at his [a police officer's] head supposedly ready to be fired," said Mr Trump, the Republican presidential candidate.
"Who can have a problem with that? That's what the narrative is. Maybe it's not true. If it is true, people shouldn't be rioting."

Hate preaching as preacher's network of radical connections was like a who's who of Islamic terrorism

Choudary was a cider-drinking drug-smoker at university but fell under spell of Omar Bakri Muhammed
•Pair then launched series of radical groups in UK and their followers have carried out shocking attacks
•The best known of his disciples was Muslim convert Michael Adebolajo, who, along with Michael Adebowale, attacked Lee Rigby with a meat cleaver in Woolwich in a murder which shocked the country
Anjem Choudary was at the heart of an international web of extremism.
His network of radical connections read like a Who’s Who of modern Islamic terrorism.
Choudary’s associates have been connected to at least 15 major terrorist plots and experts believe 500 jihadist disciples are fighting for Islamic State in Syria.
The former law student’s links led from street-level jihadi recruitment cells to the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby. Al-Muhajiroun, the Al Qaeda-inspired group he helped set up in the UK in the 1990s, also radicalised the July 7 bombers and reached into Paris and Syria.

Federal Government of Nigeria to decide on the exchange of chibok girls with boko haram suspects

The decision to release Boko Haram suspects in exchange for abducted Chibok schoolgirls as being demanded by the terror sect, will be a political decision.
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Gabriel Olonishakin stated this while fielding questions from State House correspondents after a security meeting, held in the Presidential Villa, Abuja on Monday.
He, however, said that military operations against activities of the terrorist group would continue irrespective of any negotiations with the sect.
“That is a political decision to be taken.
“The military decision is that we are going ahead with our operations.
“The operation is being conducted appropriately.’’
The CDS stated that the military authorities were analysing the video released by Boko Haram sect and “we will make appropriate comments at the right time’’.
He said that one of the people declared wanted by the army in connection with the abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls had surrendered himself to the army for interrogation.
Olonishaki disclosed that the meeting went beyond discussing security matters, saying that it also discussed issues on floods apart from terrorism.
Also speaking on the outcome of the meeting, the Comptroller-General of Customs, retired Col. Hameed Ali said the meeting took the form of workshop as participants were trained on how to respond to emergency issues.
“It was not a meeting as such, it was a little workshop that was arranged for us to understand how to respond to emergency issues, how to be in the position to advise the President to take the right decisions under emergency cases either terrorism, flood or any other thing.
“It was put together for chief executives to sit down and understand the processes of thinking when there is disaster.
“And I think that is what we have learnt today, and hope we will put into use.’’
Also commenting on the activities of the Boko Haram, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said even though the Federal Government was in touch with the sect, the government is being careful and cautious in view of the split in the leadership of the group.
“What is important to government is the safety and security of these girls.
“Don’t forget that this is not the first time we will be engaged in talking and engaging them.
“The point is we assure the nation that we are on top of the situation.
“We are not even just reacting to the video; we have gone far beyond the video in talking to the group already.
“Until you are able to ascertain the authenticity of the people you are talking to, you don’t go into details.’’
On the planned protest-march to the Presidential Villa by members of the BringBack Our Girls’ group, Mohammed stated that government was committed to doing everything possible to rescue all kidnapped citizens, including the Chibok schoolgirls.
“We appreciate their commitment to the return of these girls but there are few things we need to do behind the scene.
“What we are saying is that the government is committed to do everything to rescue these girls.”

Open Heavens 17 August 2016: Wednesday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Desire Accelerated Promotion?

Topic: Desire Accelerated Promotion? [Wednesday 17, August 2016]
Memorise: Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. – Proverbs 22:29
Read: 2 Kings 2:9-15 (KJV)
9 And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10 And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
11 And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12 And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
 13 He took up also the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and went back, and stood by the bank of Jordan;
14 And he took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him, and smote the waters, and said, Where is the LORD God of Elijah? and when he also had smitten the waters, they parted hither and thither: and Elisha went over.
15 And when the sons of the prophets which were to view at Jericho saw him, they said, The spirit of Elijah doth rest on Elisha. And they came to meet him, and bowed themselves to the ground before him.
Bible in One Year: Isaiah 30:18-33:24, Psalms 36
MESSAGE:
Some people wrongly believe that God will promote them irrespective of their attitude in life. God is not a God of mediocrity, laziness or indolence. God is interested in promoting those who make good effort in their endeavours. Joseph was not just promoted in the house of Portiphar, his master saw mark of excellence and diligence in him before he was put in charge of everything. Those who think God will favour them despite being lazy, dormant, inactive and lethargic are only wasting their time. There are people who have privileges but refuse to use them. Joseph utilized the privilege he had in his master’s house and he was in charge. He also utilized the privilege he had in the prison and he was put in charge. This attitude of hard work and diligence continued with him until space was made for him at the top.
There are many people who have remained in the same spot for a long time because they have refused to engage their God given potentials. They want God to provide food for them and cook it and also put it in their mouths. You must be able to strike the iron while it is red hot. Maximizing the opportunities given to you by God can change the story of your life and attract uncommon promotion to you.
If one knows how to work efficiently, he will have no problem getting to the top. He will be able to provide for himself and his family. Industrious people will always rule over those that are lazy. What were the other sons of the prophet doing when Elisha was following Elijah? They were making mockery of Elisha, reminding him that his master will soon be taken away. Even though all of them were sons of the prophet they did not see Elijah as their own master. They told Elisha that ‘his master’ will soon be taken away. The anointing you do not respect will never work for you. The office you do not respect can never get you. They were all there viewing from afar. They refused to step out of their comfort zone. Complacency had taken over their hearts. Elisha followed his master from Gilgal to Bethel and from Bethel to Jericho and from Jericho to Jordan but the others just viewed from afar. Are you like one of the 50 sons of the prophet? When you see your leader pursuing a vision, you just stay and watch from afar? Are you one of those who discourage others from putting their best into what their superior are doing? Are you one of those who specialize in pulling down others because of their promotion is a threat to you? You have to have a rethink of heart if you don’t want to remain in the valley of life. God is interested in blessing you and promoting you but you have to convince Him that you desire that promotion.
If you are hard-working, there is no demon that can stop your progress in life, but God will never bless the lazy. You must be up and doing. You should be diligent in all your duties. It takes diligence to get to the top and the same diligence is required to sustain your place at the top. You must challenge yourself to rise above every limitation and barrier and work your way to the very top through hard work.
Key Point: It is the soul of the diligent that will eventually be made fat.

Open Heavens 16 August 2016: Tuesday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – The Prince of Peace

Topic: The Prince of Peace [Tuesday 16, August 2016]
Memorise: For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. – Isaiah 9:6
Read: Isaiah 9:2-7 (KJV)
2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3 Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5 For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7 Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
Bible in One Year: Isaiah 28:1-30:17, Psalms 35
MESSAGE:
In recent times, the entire world has been troubled by one thing or the other. Governments of nations all over the world have explored all avenues and different theories to solve their problems, yet the crises increase. So many budgets are being voted by members of different groups all in the name of providing peace, and the more the investment of time, meetings, mediations and reconciliations, the less the solutions. Until we come back to where we have missed it, we will just keep reinventing the wheel. Also, individuals go through different forms of troubles and worries with no solution. There is nothing like an atmosphere of peace either in a nation or in the life of an individual. It is the greatest thing the world is searching for today and it is the best thing that can happen to a person.
Peace is saying no to violence and creating room for harmony and love. Those who do not have peace cannot experience wellness of life. When there is no peace in a place, it exposes everyone to hostility and aggression, but where there is peace; there is rest of mind and tranquillity. I decree that you will find peace today in Jesus’ name. Finding peace is finding Jesus Christ. He came to restore the broken relationship between man and God. He came to reconcile us back to the Father. Jesus is the one who broke down every wall of partition between us and God.
“For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;” - Ephesians 2:14
No matter what you are going through in your life, there is a solution in Christ Jesus. In what area are you experiencing problem? Come to the Prince of Peace and He will give you rest. Are you having troubles and fierce storms in your marriage? Come to Jesus and He will step into the centre of your home and give you peace.
“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” - John 14:27
There will be trying times in the life of every child of God but you can be rest assured that in your troubled times, you are not alone. God will never allow the trouble to overwhelm you. He will make you experience calmness in the situation. It is important you know that peace is not necessarily the absence of war, it is the presence of rest and calmness in the time of war. Jesus will always bring light into every darkness. He will always speak peace into every storm. He presides over every unpleasant situation of life so that you can experience His peace.
Prayer Point: Father let your peace overrule all my worries in Jesus’ name.

Technology giant Yahoo takes communication steps further

American multinational technology company, Yahoo, popularly known for its instant messaging, has introduced some updates to improve the experience of global users.
These updates can be noticed on the Yahoo Mail sign-in page for anyone who is yet to upgrade.
The experience allows users to like messages or photographs. You can also engage in a one-on-one chat or group conversation.
Similarly, you can share several photos instantly and recall an email you do not intend to send due to any form of mistake.

These were seen on the page on Monday: “Like messenger, like photos; chat one-one or in groups; share tons of photos instantly; unsend – yep, you can take it back.”
This upgrade has now become the most trending style of messaging and it would probably increase the number of users in Yahoo!

Your role as a Mother to your Children! (2) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Your role as a Mother to your Children! (2)
 Dear Reader,
You are welcome to another exciting time in the presence of the Lord.  Last week, I brought you the introductory part of this month’s teaching. I, also, explained that the role of mothers can’t be quantified in the lives of her children.
This week, I shall be sharing on a special feature on what you, as a mother, need to cultivate in order to play your motherly role to your children:
Time Investment!
In a bid to have more time for business concerns and other personal things, some parents send their children to boarding schools. Some parents have become too busy making money and succeeding business/career that they neglect spending time with their children. They are busy trying to make ends meet financially; but unfortunately, they seldom do.
I believe one of the reasons the efforts of such parents sometimes yield poor results is because they have neglected their primary responsibility of nurturing their children. Such parents see their children as burdens, rather than blessings from the Lord (Psalm 127:3).
Mothers, please create time to order and shape the lives of your children. Do not leave them at the mercy of circumstances and situations. Don’t allow them to learn from friends and T.V what you ought to teach them. Some children are faced with challenges too big for them to handle and they lack right counsel. If you are not there to give them the counsel required, they will turn to their friends, who might give them wrong counsel.
Realising the awesomeness of this responsibility, I personally cried to God for His grace. I don’t want to fail Him. I don’t want to face Him on the Day of Judgment and have nothing noteworthy to present, when asked what I did with the destinies committed into my hands. You will not be found wanting in Jesus’ name!
Furthermore, as a secrete for mothers, whose children have run away from home, are backslidden or being problematic, you can use the tool of your womb and breast as points of contact in praying for them. Wherever that child may be, you can call his name, put your hand on your womb or breast, make your declarations and establish them on God’s infallible Word, and it works!
Additionally, you must understand that it takes being born again to truly comprehend your role as a mother to your children. If you are not yet born again and you would like to, please pray this simple prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me of my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. Deliver me from sin and satan to serve the living God. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”
If you prayed this simple prayer, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).
Congratulations! You are now born again! All-round rest and peace are guaranteed you, in Jesus’ Name. Call or write, and share your testimonies with me through contact@faithoyedepo.org; OR 07026385437 and 08141320204.

Open Heavens 15 August 2016: Monday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – No Hindrance

Topic: No Hindrance [Monday 15, August 2016]
Memorise: Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it. – Zechariah 4:7
Read: Zechariah 4:7-11 (KJV)
7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain: and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.
8 Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
9 The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also finish it; and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto you.
10 For who hath despised the day of small things? for they shall rejoice, and shall see the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven; they are the eyes of the LORD, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
11 Then answered I, and said unto him, What are these two olive trees upon the right side of the candlestick and upon the left side thereof?
Bible in One Year: Isaiah 24-27, Psalms 34:11-22
MESSAGE:
You must never allow anything to hinder you from becoming what God wants you to become. Don’t give in to the lies and fear that the devil is sending against you. In 1981, before I became 40 years old, I had been General Overseer for just a few months. One day, I looked at myself in the mirror and I saw grey hair all over my head. We had many problems in the church then. The Lord said I was carrying a burden that was not mine and I responded by saying that I was carrying the burdens related to the church. He said the church belonged to Him and that He could take care of it. He said He just made me the General Overseer as a front so that people will see a visible representative. I relaxed henceforth, and all my hair became black again.
There are mountains that stand between us and the things God wants us to achieve. These mountains could be issues that are hindering the actualisation of our set goals. The mountain could be people who do not see or understand what God is saying to you yet; or it could be people who are falsely accusing you, but you can be sure that God will always reduce all your mountains into plains. There are certain burdens and problems that are too big for you to carry? All you need do is to hand them over to the Burden Bearer. In Numbers 16:1-35, three men; Korah, Dathan and Abiram, came with the intention of hindering the assignments that God gave to Moses. They accused him of turning the leadership of the congregation into a family affair. They said Aaron his brother was a priest while Miriam his sister was the Choirmaster. In the midst of this mountain, Moses turned to God for intervention. The Lord told Moses to stand aside and watch Him fight against the mountains that were rising before him to hinder the work He had committed into his hand. By the time God was through with the mountains, they had all become plains.
When mountains rise against you, don’t waste your time entertaining any fear. When the Almighty God is on your side, it does not matter the problems confronting you, testimonies will be the final result in your favour. The Bible says in Psalms 30:5:
“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.”
What is that sickness hindering you? The Almighty God will be your personal Physician. If it is poverty that wants to hinder all the great dreams that the Almighty God has given to you, do not fear the hindrance because He will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory. Are there people standing up against you? Are they persecuting you and distracting you from that which God has designed you for? Just relax; God who levels all mountains knows the best judgement for your enemies. He has assured you that when the enemies come in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will raise up a standard against them. He has assured you that no weapon fashioned against you shall prosper. He will supply you with the strength to succeed when failure rises up. He will still all the storms rocking your boat and at the end you will look for the mountains but you will see them no more in Jesus’ name.
Key Point: There is no mountain that is beyond God.

Who is Aisha Wakil ? who was declared wanted by the Nigerian Army

If we flashed back during the inauguration of the committee on amnesty for Boko Haram on April 2013 in Abuja. Below is a 2013 report by Tony Akowe on the woman Boko Haram insurgents call "Mama."

In a region where women are given little attention, the announcement of the name of Aisha Wakil as a member of the Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the northern part of the country came to many as a surprise.

Even though not much is known about her, her name has consistently appeared on the list of people allegedly released by the Boko Haram insurgents as one of those to represent them in any form of dialogue or negotiation with the government.

In November last year, when the insurgents announced the names of prominent northerners who they wanted to represent them in negotiations with the Federal Government, Aisha Wakil and her husband, Justice Zanna Wakil of the Borno State judiciary, were on the list headed by former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari.

When the leader of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, Sheikh Datti Ahmed, rejected his nomination into the committee, many Nigerians felt disappointed – especially in view of the fact that he is one of those that may have had any form of contact with members of the group. Ahmed was part of the botched peace deal and he believed that the government was not serious about peace with the insurgents.

Winning Wisdom: Don't Turn Your Back

Topic: Don't Turn Your Back [15/8/2016]
 Text: Ephesians 6:14-18
In the classic description of the Christian soldier and his armour in Ephesians 6:14-18, it is interesting to note that there is no armour for the back. This is not a mistake by God, it is deliberate. God never designed us to turn our backs and run from the battles of life. The soldiers that run from battles are easily picked out by their adversaries. For us Christian soldiers, we are well suited with the right armour to stay on the offensive always. Even when on the defensive, it is the shield of faith, one of our armours, we employ, not our backs.
We are not cowards. Only cowards run from battles. We are as bold as a lion, because we are of the stock of the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Lions don't shy away from challenges, they face every challenge head on. With our armour, we can always be on the offensive to claim the spoils of victory that the Lord of Host have won for us. Hallelujah! That is why we can't turn our back. If we do, we cant claim our victory.
Even when Satan puts up the toughest of resistance, and it feels like we should just give in to his pressure and run away from taking the spoils of our victory, we must stay resolute. We know that victory is assured no matter the resistance of Satan. We must keep employing our well oiled armour; the helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, our loins girded with truth, the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God and lastly, praying in the spirit. We cannot turn our back with these in our possession. Don't turn your back on any battle, because victory is always assured.
 Keep winning daily.
Prayer:
I am fully kitted with the whole armour of God. Fully equipped to take the spoils of victory that Jesus have won for me. I do not give in, neither do I turn my back from the heat of battle. I stay resolution and firm because victory is assured always, in Jesus' name. Amen.

#RioOlympics2016: Usain Bolt wins Olympic gold medal

Jamaican sprint superstar Usain Bolt on Sunday night became the first Olympic sprinter to win three successive 100-meter gold medals.
He emerged victorious in his grudge match against American Justin Gatlin to win the gold medal, running the track in 9.81 seconds.
Gatlin, who finished in 9.89 seconds, took home the silver medal while Andre De Grasse of Canada nabbed the bronze.
It was an epic sprint for the line and midway Gatlin appeared to have got the better of Bolt.
But Bolt picked up, ran first over the line and didn’t stop to shake hands with his bitter rival as he continued running for another 100 yards, giving Gatlin the ultimate cold shoulder.
It was the race the planet tuned into see and Bolt ensured he was crowned the fastest man in the world at three straight Olympics.
Bolt is now just two races away from completing the ‘triple triple’ and winning three consecutive Olympic gold medals in the 100m, 200m and 4x100m relay.
‘Somebody said I can become immortal,’ Bolt said after the race on Sunday. ‘Two more medals to go and I can sign off. Immortal.’
He grabbed his national flag and cheered and smiled back at his loving audience, soaking up their roaring cheers and applause.
Gatlin had been widely booed as he entered the track, but at the end still grabbed the Stars and Stripes and draped it over his shoulders for his own victory lap.
‘We work 365 days a year to be here for nine seconds,’ Gatlin said after winning his third Olympic medal. ‘At the age of 34, to race these young guys and still make the podium feels so good.’
‘That was for my son. If he’s watching…I love you, son.’
The race was billed as an epic head-to-head between Bolt and Gatlin, who has one Olympic gold medal and a career racked with drug controversy.

Nigeria Sport ministry gives confidence to Dream Team

The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports has refunded the $4,600 paid for the team in São Paulo on their way to Salvador by the Dream Team’s captain, Mikel Obi.
The ministry also assured players and officials of the team that they will be given all that is due to them.
The Sports Minister, Barrister Solomon Dalung, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Mr. Chinyeaka Ohaa, said this while addressing the players and officials after the 2-0 defeat of Denmark in Saturday’s quarter final match in Salvador.
He said, “I am happy to be a Nigerian, because in spite of all the challenges, you have taken the world by storm; you have by your performance given happiness to more than 160 million Nigerians. Football is the biggest unifying factor in Nigeria today. From Mr. President to the average Nigerian you have made everyone proud today.
“I am humbled by your efforts, your commitment, your patriotism. I want to assure you that your sacrifices will not be in vain. Aside whatever the NFF have for you, we will as much as possible make you happy, if only you will be patient with us. Today, with your performance, I am convinced that you will get that gold.”
In his response, Mikel said, “We want to thank you for your fatherly support. In truth, there have been a lot of challenges, but every time we go onto the field, we forget about everything and make sure our fatherland comes first.
“We have done that so far and we will continue to do that, but we need more motivation.”

My passion, focus and Why I am Contesting for Publicity Secretary of PDP -Deji Adeyanju

My name is Prince Deji Adeyanju and I have been a member of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) for several years. I am a firm believer in its principles and ideals. I also believe that PDP is the only truly national party in Nigeria and is, therefore, best placed to deliver successful achievement of the collective ideals and aspirations of the Nigerian people.
While I recognise that the party is by no means perfect, I am aware that over the years it has deepened democracy in the country and has contributed immensely to the growth and development of Nigeria as a whole.
Following the defeat PDP suffered in the last general elections, and the zoning of the office of the National Publicity Secretary (NPS) to the North Central Region of the country, I have decided to contest for the office and a place on the National Working Committee of the party.
I believe I possess the skills, ability and the personality to make an outstanding contribution to the task of improving the image of the party. It is for this reason that I solicit the support of all members of the party as I work to actualise this ambition.
In return for your support, I pledge to give my best in the day to day activities of the office. I pledge to ensure that the image of the party, the protection and polishing of which is the objective of the Directorate of Publicity, will be significantly better at the end of my tenure than the way I met it. I pledge to execute my duties with exemplary discipline and dedication to duty.
In return for your support, I pledge to bring a new way of doing things to the Publicity Secretariat of the party. I pledge to lead a revolution that will not only strengthen the faith that members and supporters have in the party, but which will also convince millions of Nigerians that as a party PDP has their best interests at heart and is the most viable vehicle with which to deliver on our collective dreams & aspirations.
This way, together with the leadership of the party, I believe that we can make this party great again.
 Thank you.
Deji Adeyanju

Linda Ikeji apologize to #SaveMayowa's family and said the donations wasn't a scam

People who know me well will tell you that the easiest and fastest way to get money out of me is to tell me you're sick. I hate seeing people that helpless. Over the years, I've donated and also used my platform to raise money for several sick people, including Mayowa Ahmed. Early morning on July 28th, I received a call saying the #SaveMayowa campaign was a scam. That the lady was terminally ill and the family had no intentions of using the money raised for her health to treat her as they had no invite from the hospital in Atlanta, neither did she even have a visa to the US. Please continue...

They wanted me to blog it quickly so people could stop donating. I found it hard to believe at first but it was coming from people who were directly involved in raising money for the sick girl. I sent someone to LUTH to investigate, he got there and found chaos. The Police was already involved, people were being questioned, some folks were shouting, he spoke to people in the hospital and many seemed confused. I spoke with those who had called me, and they said 1000%, the whole thing was a scam.
And I sincerely believe that at the time they told me this, they genuinely believed it to be a fact. I don't think it was done maliciously. After they sent me documents showing the hospital in Atlanta was not really involved in Mayowa's treatment and LUTH medical directors denied knowledge of a fund raising for the sick girl, I believed it to also be a fact! And I wrote it. My mistake, I think, was owning the story, I probably should have quoted them. And maybe investigated more. My apologies to the family! The post has since been taken down.
After investing properly, the police found it wasn't a scam, that it was more a miscommunication between the parties helping to raise funds and the girl's family. I spoke about the issue with the Lagos police PPRO and she assured me that the family didn't have bad intentions.
The happy news is that Mayowa has been flown to South Africa for treatment. She left Nigeria on Thursday August 11th.
May God use her case to show that He is God!
Let's continue to pray for her!
 Linda

Open Heavens 14 August 2016: Sunday daily devotional by Pastor E. A. Adeboye – Relevant to each Other

Topic: Relevant to each Other [Sunday 14, August 2016]
Memorise: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. – Romans 12:5
Read: 1 Corinthians 12:18-25 (KJV)
18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
Bible in One Year: Isaiah 19:16-23:18, Psalms 34:1-10
MESSAGE:
The church is an assembly of the called out; people who have been called out of darkness into the marvellous light of Jesus. We have become vessels unto honour unto God and also unto one another in righteousness. It is upon this that Apostle Paul admonished us in Philippians 4:8:
"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
As people who have received the grace of God, we must be concerned about one another. We should live our lives helping others to become what God has destined them to become. We must give ourselves in service to other brethren. Our minds must be directed by purposes higher than the material world and selfish ambitions. We are what we are by the Grace of the Almighty God, and everyone cannot possess the same measure of grace and abilities, hence the need to encourage one another and not engage in envy and strife.
No matter how highly placed you are, you must never look down on others, neither should you write anyone off because the weak person of today can become the strong person of tomorrow. The people in David's army were once called vagabonds, but they were the same people who eventually became mighty captains of his army. There must be unity amongst us, because we are members of the same body. The entire body needs every member in order to function as a whole. You cannot do everything all alone, you need others to succeed. There are great people that are your destiny ties. The moment you identify them, you need to also invest in them and leverage on their grace. Every member must be encouraged to use his God given abilities to profit the entire body. The church is like a chain and everyone is very important in the scheme of things. No one should claim superiority over others because this will not encourage Unity. Unhealthy competition should not be allowed in the Body of Christ. We are one and we need one another. There is no one who is an island. Let those who are strong help those who are feeble. Let those who are rich help those who are in need. Let those who are matured help those who are coming behind. Let those who are at the top encourage those who are climbing.
Jesus specifically instructed Peter to strengthen his brethren. You must contribute to the success of others. Great leaders who gain respect are the ones who constantly add value to others. You need to be a source of hope to those around you. Your life must demonstrate the competence and chemistry that attracts others to the grace of God upon your life. This starts by respecting yourself and respecting those that God has given to you. People will naturally submit to your leadership when you take them from where they are to where God wants them to be. You must see the good in people. Encourage people to do their best and when you have to correct, let it be done in love. Do not take any failure or criticism personally. Treat everyone you meet as important because they are.
Action Point: You are very important to God. If you fail to play your role in the Body of Christ, it could bring losses to God's Kingdom. Determine to play your role today.

#RioOlympics2016: Sports Ministry payoff all outstanding camp allowances of Dream Team

Nigeria’s Sports Ministry has moved in to quickly settle the allowances of the Dream Team VI players after they protested and threatened to boycott today’s Olympics quarter final clash against Denmark.
Coach Samson Siasia in an interview revealed that the players were set to boycott their next game in protest of non-payment of their Rio 2016 Olympic Games allowances.
However, members of the U-23 team have been paid their camp allowances for 22 days.
Injured striker Junior Ajayi has also been cleared to feature in the match.
The four-goal hero in the team opening game against Japan, Oghenekaro Etebo has been ruled out of the last eight clash slated for Arena Corinthians in Sao Paolo, Brazil.
“The Sports Ministry has cleared all camp allowances of the Dream team in Rio. Players and officials have now been paid 22 days allowances,” the team spokesman, Timi Ebikagboro said.

This means each player has now received $3,300 with coach Samson Siasia getting twice that amount.
Nigeria will today Saturday, August 13, face Denmark in the quarter-finals of the football event of Rio 2016.
The match will be played at 8pm Nigerian time at the Arena Fonte Nova.

Devotionals: Working For Or Walking With God?

A Promise For You From Bible Promises:
Topic: Working For Or Walking With God? [13/08/2016]
And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him. Genesis 5:24. Read: Gen 17:1-5
Working for God might probably not get you anywhere but end you on earth. How? For instance, when you're working for a company for few months without pay, what do you do next? You'll begin to look out for another job that would fetch you money because you're actually working for salary. Invariably, when you're working for God and what you're expecting are not forthcoming, you might be contemplating an alternative to get what you want. Just as working for a company without pay can be frustrating, also, working for God with expectations not forthcoming could be frustrating.
On the other hand, walking with God is enriching and rewarding. It doesn't only end you with God in heaven, it gives you all that pertains to life and godliness. It helps you to live a life of Perfection in this perverse world. It makes God establish His covenant with you and your seeds. Are you working for or walking with God? It's better to walk with God and end in heaven (like Enoch) than to work for God and end on earth.

It is high Time to ease the unemployment logjam by Dele Momodu

Fellow Nigerians, let me say right away that the biggest problem confronting our world today is that of mass unemployment. I have decided to address this issue today as it portends grave danger and unprecedented chaos especially in Africa where we lack even the basic necessities of life. The situation is so dire in our country, Nigeria, and needs to be urgently tackled in order to avert a total breakdown of law and order. There is no doubt in my mind that some of the security challenges Nigeria is battling emanated from this endemic lack of jobs for the young able-bodied men and women who have been driven to the limits of frustration.
Let’s not blow too much grammar and go straight to my humble suggestions. The usual excuse from government quarters for the lack of jobs is that Nigeria is broke. And there is a cast-iron alibi for that hypothesis; the price of our staple export, oil, has suffered a cataclysmic fall. All well and good! But it cannot, and should not, end just like that. We should be honest with ourselves once in a while. I refuse to subscribe to the fact that Nigeria is so broke and comatose that we are merely on life support. I say without any equivocation that a nation as exceptionally endowed as Nigeria is cannot be broke and it is a misnomer to describe ours as a poor country. I know that statistically, our federal budgets are less than the budgets of some multinationals in the “developed” economies but in Africa those budgets are significant and considerable. We are stranded in backwardness because we have all refused to do what we all know we must all do to get out of this monumental mess.
I repeat, Nigeria is still potentially one of the wealthiest nations on earth. Our potential wealth derives from our significant population, great human potential and uncommon natural resources, all three of which we have blatantly refused to harness. Our governments have been groping hopelessly in darkness by refusing to perform their rudimentary role of laying the basic but solid foundation for our ultimate launch into the orbit of civilisation.
Nigeria is moderately rich but the riches are still being wasted and frittered away by politicians, civil servants, technocrats, and all of us. But the biggest blame naturally should go to the various governments. The amount being spent on servicing our leaders alone is enough to grow many nations. Nigerian leaders are still the most outlandishly expensive and excessively flamboyant in the world. This is the reason every government appointment is a big deal to every appointee. And it has become almost impossible to get certain appointments without the intervention of godfathers and this works to the detriment of meritocracy. Some of the best brains in Nigeria today have been left in the lurch for that ungodly reason. It is sad to note that this is not about to change soon. And naturally, once you enthrone mediocracy at any stage, you can only expect that mediocre to plumb the depths for an even more mediocre person in order to look better than the next person! A vicious cycle is thus perpetuated.
Nigeria is great and we have a President who is generally believed to be incorruptible but he now seems manacled hands and legs and by politics, politicians and a volatile Constitution that makes it impossible for him to take certain drastic decisions that may help the nation. He is no longer a military dictator (he shed that toga over 30 years ago), he is now a born again democrat who ordinarily must take certain instructions from a political party that finally catapulted him to power. Appointments must be shared on recommendations that are often based on primordial sentiments. And Nigerian leaders are expected to be controlled from the geographical regions that produced them, which means certain strategic appointments must be considered and made no matter how senseless they may appear to ordinary folk.
I do not envy President Muhammadu Buhari. He obviously wanted to be President so badly that he contested for an unprecedented four times spanning 12 agonising years but I’m sure he did not bargain for what he is getting now. He no longer has the power he had between 1983 to 1985. It takes time and mental energy to navigate the polluted waters of Nigerian politics. This is why many Nigerians think he is slow and underperforming but it can’t be entirely his fault if we want to be fair to him at all. Head or tail, whatever he does is subject to controversy. The biggest headache he has is his avowed war against corruption. No matter his actions in this area, he would always be accused of bias. How would he investigate and prosecute the big toads in his party without endangering his own platform? While he is busy trying to unravel this jigsaw, the people continue to suffer especially our unemployed youths.
On the other hand, nobody can gainsay the progress made by President Buhari in the area of security particularly the success in the war against Boko Haram.
The relocation of the Nigerian Military Command Centre to Maiduguri, since late May 2015, has contributed in no small measure to the success witnessed by this administration in the fight against insurgency and terrorism in the North Eastern part of the country. Since December 2015, the well-motivated, better equipped and rejuvenated Nigerian military have regained all Nigerian territories previously under Boko Haram control. Continuous monitoring of activities, in the formerly war torn region, through the use of satellite images and geographical information system has helped in fighting insurgency and succeeded in strategizing against the enemy with the resultant successes both in containing the terrorist menace and in rescuing victims. As at February 2016, the total number of persons rescued by the Nigerian troops during the ongoing operations in the North East came to almost 12,000 persons. The introduction of the motor cycle battalion which was established to enable the Nigerian Army travel to remote areas that were not previously accessible to cars/trucks has greatly contributed to the success enjoyed by the military against Boko Haram. As I posit further below, employment is one of the major issues that this Government and future governments must grapple with if Nigeria is to emerge from the doldrums that have depressed us into regression and lack. One of the ways that the insurgency we are fighting can be turned into a positive is in the employment which can ensue. There is a need not just for additional soldiers but also for policemen, immigration officers and customs officers. The porous nature of our borders is a strong contributory factor for the insurgency that has threatened to destroy the very fabric of our society and there is a need for more hands to be recruited to deal with the scourge.
Where then do we go from here? There are decisions that can be taken without much fuss. The first is that the cost of governance must be crashed and crushed urgently. This would have to go beyond the superficial instructions to Ministers not to fly first class or reduction in salaries. We all know where the largesse is usually hidden and it is in over-inflated contracts and gratifications for favours granted against due process. That is the most difficult battle. But we can start from stopping the tradition that allows government operatives to act like every day is Christmas. I have said repeatedly that we cannot practise capitalism without capital. The austerity measure should start from the very top. The Federal Government is still too large and unwieldy. If no conscious effort is made to reduce the atrociously high bills then Nigeria is doomed.
Let us sell off most of our Presidential jets and choppers. Let our public officials begin to fly Arik (at least this airline has some new planes that fly across Africa, Europe and America) and save the country from maintenance costs of the current flights of fancy. Nigeria will gain a lot from this. Arik will be able to upgrade its current fleet and employ more Nigerians from government patronage. Most of the Presidential jets are either idle most of the time or used for frivolous trips. Let government functionaries face the task of rebuilding Nigeria and stop the culture of travelling at the slightest opportunity. No one can accept Nigeria is broke with the way and manner we gallivant about and waste government resources.
I expect Nigeria to instantly earn over N20 billion from selling off most of those jets. Do you know what that can do for our youths? I will tell you based on my projection when I contested the Presidential election in 2011. My blueprint was similar to what eventually became YouWin in the Jonathan administration. N20 billion will empower 20,000 millionaire entrepreneurs who are able to employ 10 to 20 people immediately. N100 billion will create 100,000 millionaire businessmen and women. The indirect employment that would be further created and generated by this direct employment can only best be imagined.
One of the best initiatives of the Jonathan government for me was YouWin and it must be urgently re-energised to power our job revolution. It must be noted that it must not be another job for political appointees but for a committee of already made men and women like Dr Tony Elumelu who can work without expecting any remuneration from government. If Dr Elumelu can set aside $100m, over a period of ten years, to empower African youths, why can’t our governments, at different tiers, emulate such private foundations?
Nigeria needs to get more serious about improving the quality of education speedily and this is not so difficult. Education is the bedrock that can liberate most people from the vestiges of ignorance and poverty. We must return to those days when we had technical colleges to train our poorly prepared artisans. We can borrow a leaf from Ghana where President John Mahama is upgrading polytechnics to universities of technology. Some of our higher institutions that are not so derelict can be upgraded first to the highest standards to compete against the multitude of private institutions. I’m sure most of those in mushroom universities would prefer to have their degrees from Ife, Ibadan, Lagos, Zaria, Maiduguri, Jos, Benin, Ilorin if and when they attain international standards and would be ready to pay for tuition and accommodation. A situation where graduates of English can’t speak or write good English is unacceptable and should be reversed. Educational institutions have the potential of employing many academic and non-academic staff. Many companies would also be delighted to employ some of the world-class graduates produced locally. These days more of those employed are those with academic degrees and job experience from abroad.
The second way to generate employment is by turning serious attention to our dilapidated infrastructure. We must rebuild and rehabilitate our roads, railways, airports, hospitals, and so on like the ones we are seeing in Ghana. I’m always inspired ours is not impossible if Ghana can fix most of its own challenges before our very eyes. Similar progress has been noticed in Rwanda and even Ivory Coast despite the fratricidal wars that ravaged those two countries. The beauty of working on infrastructural development is the opportunity it offers to employ those we used to call “labourers” who are usually in the majority of the labour market. There is dignity in labour and we do our honest, diligent and hardworking “labourers” a great disservice when we scoff at the fantastic contributions they make towards the enhancement and success of our economy.
