I Have Confidence In Chelsea Backlines' Says Mourinho

Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho has expressed confidence in his side's defense line ahead of their EPL fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The defending champions are currently 15th on the log, after beating Norwich City 1-0 in their last outing, which served as a booster in their 4-0 midweek champions league victory in Israel.
"I have complete trust in Gary Cahill and Kurt Zouma, which is why in an important match for us on Tuesday I left Kurt out after the good performances he is having to show Gary that confidence," Mourinho said.
"They are ready. I am not saying Papy Djilobodji is ready because he did not have chances to play and his is a different situation, but Zouma and Cahill are both ready and if John doesn't play, I go with them.
"I don't want to say that it is impossible he plays because maybe he plays and people will say that I was hiding it, and I am not hiding. Today he didn't train but we have a little hope that it is possible."
The Portuguese coach also disclosed his doubts over the condition of Ramires and Radamel Falcao, while ruling Thibaut Courtois out of a return at White Hart Lane.
"Ramires is the same situation as John, I don't know, let's wait and see. He has a chance," he added.
"Falcao is still in recovery and Courtois is training with the team but not playing Sunday. He is making good progress."
Having ensured Europa League progression with victory over Qarabag in midweek, confidence at Tottenham is high.
Pochettino's team could go 13 games unbeaten in the Premier League for the first time in their history if they get a result against the defending champions, and they have avoided defeat in 18 of their last 20 top-flight games on home soil.
The former Southampton coach is calling on the fans to provide the players with the energy needed following a congested week.
"We know it's a tough game and a derby. We need our supporters to send the best energy because it's an important game for them and us," Pochettino told Tottenham's official website.
"We need energy because it's a Sunday morning, flying back [from Azerbaijan on Thursday] and no day to prepare for the game.
"They have very good players, a great manager, and it's always tough. They have time to recover points in the table."
Nabil Bentaleb (ankle) and Erik Lamela (groin) could be in line for a return to the squad for Sunday's clash, but the match will come too soon for Nacer Chadli (ankle) and Dele Alli will miss out through suspension. Kickoff

With Due Respect Let GEJ Explain What He Knows While PMB Needs To Address The Nation

I got an information from The Sun newspaper dated 28 Nov, 2015 that almost 72 special forces that was trained in Pakistan were allegedly killed under GEJ are they were secretly buried by Nigeria Army. Recently, there was also another report that 105 soldiers' were allegedly killed or missing under PMB but Army authority have since dispelled the rumored. Why or how could anybody sent soldiers to warfronts without weapons? Please and please everybody involved in this whole mess must be brought to book. Do not ask me why? I need explanation from Goodluck Jonathan and President Buhari need to address the nation on this issue. Nigerians need explanation! For the fact I am a deep fans of Ebele, this is a national security issue and I am so sure with his wealth of experienced in office as a former President, he will shed more light on what is happening. My concerned is borne out of the fact that media was awashed with the information that Nigerian Army are fighting without tools. PMB also use it to campaign. Now that the Barton has changed hands what is our leader going to tell us? God bless Niger Army that is fighting this war. PMB need to address the nation in this critical mood and soft pedals on touring or traveling. Fuel scarcity, Economy, insurgents, and Nigerians needs attention please. Adefemi Pcfr

Military vs Boko Haram: Special Forces wiped out

killed in battlefield
FROM MOLLY KILETE, ABUJA
Till date, not many Nigerians understood why President Muhammadu Buhari is determined to get all those linked to the alleged $2 billion arms purchase fraud under former President Goodluck Jonathan punished.
Saturday Sun can authoritatively reveal that apart from his quest to recover all the billions that had been allegedly stolen from the nation’s treasury in recent years so as to get enough money to fund his government’s lofty programmes, the Commander-in-Chief is seriously embittered over a recent inventory of military operations against Boko Haram insurgents in the North-East which revealed that majority of the multi-million dollar-trained officers of the nation’s special forces have been killed in battle fronts between January and now due to lack of fighting tools. Saturday Sun had exclusively reported the deployment of the Special Forces battalion in its May 8 edition.
It was reliably gathered that out of the 36 young officers drawn from the three arms of the Nigerian Armed Forces to form the special elite force, 28 of them have been lost to the battle in the North-East before the change of government on May 29. The Special Forces trained in Pakistan and other tough terrains across the world are based in Makurdi, Benue Sstate, from where “they were drafted to lead battles against ruthless Boko Haram insurgents without providing them with fighting tools and military equipment at a time millions of dollars were taken out of the treasury purportedly to buy arms and ammunition.”
As a retired Army General, a former military Head of State and now Commander-in- Chief of the Armed Forces, it was further learnt that Buhari became furious when he received briefings on how the nation lost its toughest fighters “in controversial circumstances and this was one of the major factors that prompted him to set up the probe panel in the office of the NSA, Gen. Babagana Monguno to establish what happened to funds approved for the purchase of arms for the Armed Forces under the immediate past NSA, Sambo Dasuki”, a source well familiar with the development told Saturday Sun.
Saturday Sun also gathered that to avoid public outcry, the military leadership under former President Goodluck Jonathan had ordered secret burial for the killed officers who were mostly between the ranks of Captain and Major all based at the 72 Special Forces Battalion barracks, Makurdi. The Special Forces Commander, Colonel Abiodun Lagbaja and seven others were the only lucky survivors. Names of the lost officers are presently displayed on a plaque at the restricted area in the battalion’s office in the Benue State capital.
Our source, however, pleaded that the names of the officers should not be published “in honour of the nation’s fallen heroes, their families and in order not to dignify blood-thirsty terrorists who killed the officers.”
“That’s what we get when our fine and well trained officers are pushed to hot spots with no tools by leaders who steal funds meant for our military platforms. It’s a terrible rape”, an angry three star Army General told Saturday Sun. Attempts to get official reaction from the military authorities failed but a senior officer at the Army headquarters who is not allowed to speak officially assured: “Notwithstanding the losses we have suffered in the recent past, our troops are doing well now and very soon the insurgency will end.”
Just last week, there were reports that about 105 soldiers of the 157 Battalion, including their commanding officer, were feared killed or missing after they came under intense attack from Boko Haram insurgents at Gudunbali, Borno State. The military has, however, assured that the missing soldiers had since returned to their base.
While the doubt on military’s response was yet to clear, another report emerged on Tuesday that the Nigerian Army at the military cemetery in Maiduguri secretly buried the bodies of about 105 soldiers killed by Boko Haram insurgents.
The report said the decomposed bodies of the men who were killed in an encounter with the terrorists last week Wednesday were brought to Maiduguri Monday evening in body bags. Military spokesman, Colonel Tukur Ismail Gusau had confirmed that insurgents attacked the location of 157 Battalion last Wednesday, but they were “subsequently repelled by the gallant troops of the unit.” He added that the unit’s commanding officer remained in contact with his Brigade Commander.
Usman, who described the report of the missing soldiers as a smear campaign against the Nigerian military, however, stated that the burial that took place was not that of the purported 105 dead or missing soldiers.
The alarming casualty in the military coupled with hundreds of petitions over the supply of inferior and substandard weapons to the military by the previous administration has in the past weeks made President Buhari uncomfortable.
The petitioners among them military personnel and very senior citizens had called on the president to investigate complaints of misappropriation of funds by serving military personnel who took advantage of the war to become overnight billionaires. This, it was further learnt, led to the decision by President Buhari to set up a 13-man probe panel to ascertain how over $2 billion was released for the purchase of arms without the Armed Forces getting the specified equipment.
The committee, which was inaugurated on 31st August 2015 is, however, yet to complete its work, but its interim report has unearthed several illicit and fraudulent financial transactions in the arms deal. The committee, which is headed by Air Vice Marshall J.O.N. Ode (rtd.) as president, also has Rear Admiral J.A. Aikhomu (rtd.), Rear Admiral E. Ogbor (rtd.), Brigadier-General L. Adekagun (rtd.), Brigadier-General M. Aminun-Kano (rtd.), Brigadier-General N. Rimtip (rtd.), Commodore T.D. Ikoli, Air Commodore U. Mohammed (rtd.), Air Commodore I. Shafi’i, Colonel A.A. Ariyibi, Group Captain C.A. Oriaku (rtd.) and Mr. Ibrahim Magu, acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), as members, while Brigadier-General Y.I. Shalangwa, is secretary.
A statement by presidential spokesman, Femi Adesina last week said: “As part of the findings, the committee has analyzed interventions from some organisations that provided funds to the Office of the National Security Adviser, Defence Headquarters, Army Headquarters Naval Headquarters and Nigerian Air Force Headquarters, both in local and foreign currencies.
“So far, the total extra budgetary interventions articulated by the committee is Six Hundred and Forty Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Seventeen Million, Nine Hundred and Fifty Thousand, Eight Hundred and Eighty Five Hundred Naira and Eighteen Kobo (N643,817,955,885.18).
“The foreign currency component is to the tune of Two Billion, One Hundred and Ninety Three Million, Eight Hundred and Fifteen Thousand US Dollars and Eighty Three Cents ($2,193,815,000.83).
“These amounts exclude grants from the state governments and funds collected by the DSS and Police. It was observed that in spite of this huge financial intervention, very little was expended to support defence procurement.
The committee also observed that of 513 contracts awarded at $8,356,525,184.32; N2,189,265,724,404.55 and €54,000.00; Fifty Three (53) were failed contracts amounting to $2,378,939,066.27 and N13,729,342,329.87, respectively.
“Interestingly, it was noted that the amount of foreign currency spent on failed contracts was more than double the $1bn loan that the National Assembly approved for borrowing to fight the insurgency in the North-East.
“The committee also discovered that payments to the tune of Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N3,850,000,000.00) were made to a single company by the former NSA without documented evidence of contractual agreements or fulfilment of tax obligations to the FGN.
“Further findings revealed that between March 2012 and March 2015, the erstwhile NSA, Lt Col MS Dasuki (rtd) awarded fictitious and phantom contracts to the tune of N2,219,188,609.50, $1,671,742,613.58 and €9,905,477.00. The contracts, which were said to be for the purchase of 4 Alpha Jets, 12 helicopters, bombs and ammunition, were not executed and the equipment were never supplied to the Nigerian Air Force, neither are they in its inventory.
“Even more disturbing was the discovery that out of these figures, two companies, were awarded contracts to the tune of N350,000,000.00, $1,661,670,469.71 and €9,905,477.00 alone. This was without prejudice to the consistent non-performance of the companies in the previous contracts awarded.
“Additionally, it was discovered that the former NSA directed the Central Bank of Nigeria to transfer the sum of $132,050,486.97 and €9,905,473.55 to the accounts of Societe D’equipmente Internationaux in West Africa, United Kingdom and United States of America for un-ascertained purposes, without any contract documents to explain the transactions.”
The presidency further said: “The findings made so far are extremely worrying considering that the interventions were granted within the same period that our troops fighting the insurgency in the North-East were in desperate need of platforms, military equipment and ammunition. Had the funds siphoned to these non-performing companies been properly used for the purpose they were meant for, thousands of needless Nigerian deaths would have been avoided.
“Furthermore, the ridicule Nigeria has faced in the international community would have been avoided. It is worrisome and disappointing that those entrusted with the security of this great nation were busy using proxies to siphon the national treasury, while innocent lives were wasted daily.
“In light of these findings, President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the relevant organisations arrest and bring to book, all individuals who have been found complicit in these illegal and fraudulent acts.”

After HID Awolowo: What becomes of Ikenne, Awo’s dynasty, family businesses?

IT is no longer news that Late Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu  Awolowo,  the wife of first Premier of  Western Region,  Chief Obafemi Awolowo, began her life on November 25, 1915 and ended her era on September 19, 2015. Perhaps, what may be news is what happens to the Awolowo political and business dynasty after the passage of the patriarch and matriarch.
HID Awolowo
HID Awolowo
Born into the modest Adelana family in the small Ikenne community of Ogun State, Mrs Awolowo got married to the late sage on December 26, 1937. History has it that HID Awolowo was a successful businesswoman and astute politician who  played an active role in the politics of Western Nigeria.
She was said to have stood in for her husband in the alliance formed between the National Council of Nigerian Citizens, NCNC and  Action Group, AG, which was called the United Progressives Grand Alliance, UPGA, while her husband was in incarceration. Her husband famously referred to her as the “jewel of inestimable value.”

Girl Allegedly Raped by Late Abubakar Audu's Sons Shares More Details on Abuse

Sharing the details on her blog she wrote; ''Every time I see a white Nissan Altima, my palms go sweaty, and my knees get weak. It’s an involuntary reaction born of so many nights being driven around Asokoro pinned to the floor of Tunji’s white Nissan Altima, barely able to breathe, the stench of weed stinging my eyes while I choked on the penis of whomever it pleased Mustapha to force me to pleasure that day.
''I can’t have music playing while driving around in a car either. Or just sitting around at home. I can’t have music playing period. Especially not Maroon5. If I get into your car, please drive in fucking silence or you will make it hard for me to breathe.
''Right now there are thousands of people running wild with their “opinions”, talking authoritatively about what Mustapha, Abdul, Tunji, and their band of friends and brothers did to me, as if they were there. As if they hovered around us unseen like evil spirits, listening to everything that was said, seeing everything that happened, as if they know.
''In the beginning, Mustapha and I would go out for lunch, and I’d put gas in his car, and we’d buy our own shawarmas, and eat out of each others. I had a massive crush on him, and he told me he loved me, and called me “his woman” which made me feel special. I was getting paid 20K a month, which is nothing now, but it was my first real salary back then, and it was nice to have more money of my own to spend, and spend on him I did.

Audu’s Inconclusive Death, Mugabe’s Wheelchair – Reuben Abati

A former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to ex president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, Reuben Abati, has written this article titled, Audu’s inconclusive death, Mugabe’s wheelchair.

“You look sleepy.
“My brother, let’s just say I slept at a fuel station, looking for fuel.”
“For which of the women in your life, because I hear these days, to please a woman in Nigeria, you must be ready to supply the three major things lacking in the land: money, fuel, and happiness.”
“Leave that matter, please. My condolences on the death of your man, Governor Abubakar Audu”
“We thank God for his life. He played his part.”
““To be so close to breasting the tape and then fall.”
“I know. I know. May be if he had not insisted on running again for the office of Governor in Kogi state, he would still be alive today.”
“The man drove himself too hard, publicly and privately. He ran for every Gubernatorial election in Kogi state since 1991. There must be something special in being Governor for him.”
“Don’t speak ill of the dead, I beg you. Simple etiquette.”
 “But you know now?”
 “I don’t know nothing”
“Then the man went and married a young, 23-year old. If the election had been concluded and the man had won, the First Lady of Kogi state would have been a 23-year old lady! Those who seek public office should always weigh their lifestyle and their health against their ambition, but politicians act as if they are superhuman.”
“Can you stop?”
“A 74-year old man, with a 23-year old wife. That alone is enough to give anybody hypertension.”
 “He was 68”
“Official age. He was 74, somebody told me.”
“Excuse me! Respect the dead, please. Abubakar Audu was a democrat extraordinary, a courageous politician, a visionary, selfless, man of the people, and his party’s popular choice.”
“My view is that it is not the election in Kogi that is inconclusive per se, a supplementary election will be organized, a winner will emerge; it is Audu’s death that is inconclusive considering the many issues it has thrown up.”
“What kind of talk is that? Death is final. It is the cessation of all things, a necessary end.”
“Nothing has ended with Abubakar Audu’s death oh. Did you not see the desperate efforts made to get some Prophets to resurrect him? And some people actually believed that he could be the Lazarus of our time! They started jubilating.”
“That is concrete proof of his popularity. But I was shocked seeing Nigerians will believe anything, and being so superstitious. Even the grave diggers stopped digging, waiting for the prophets to perform a miracle.”
“I hear there was a meeting of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the Kogi election but the moment the prophets waded in, even INEC suspended its meeting and did not reconvene until the prophets failed.”
“Only in Africa!”
“When the Prophets didn’t deliver, people got angry. They could have lynched those Prophets”
“Well, at least, some people will now know that the prophets are not always right in the age of biology and science. Who could have been behind such a hare-brained scheme?”
“The man’s in-laws, for example.
“Oh, come on”
“Or persons who may have been promised appointments and contracts. Or it could be persons who invested in his candidacy. Elections in Nigeria are business investments. The investors must have thought of a last minute strategy to reverse the situation. Simple economics. ”
“You and your theories. The same people will do business with whoever eventually wins the election, anyway.”
“There is also the inconclusive matter of the 23-year old wife. When the death was announced, many commentators on social media were more concerned about the young widow. Comments about how she will cope, what she would do next. One guy asked for her phone numbers.”
 “Stupid, callous fellow.”
“Another fellow actually said he was ready to inherit all of Audu’s assets and liabilities in that regard.”
 “Let him go ahead. Ole!”
“Besides, Audu’s death has turned everybody into a Constitutional expert. What happens if a candidate dies in the course of an inconclusive election? Who becomes the new candidate?”
“Simple. The APC will field another candidate, appeal to whoever is aggrieved within the party to step down until an appropriate candidate who definitely must be Igala, is identified. I don’t see the APC fielding any candidate who will automatically make them lose the election.”
“You think the APC candidate must still be Igala? But nothing is ever that straightforward in Nigerian politics.”
“Of course, otherwise, it will be a walk-over for Governor Idris Wada. The Igalas have the numbers. Politics is a game of numbers. The stakes are high. I foresee many court cases”
“Let them field Audu’s young widow then”
“Are you out of your mind? Why are you so obsessed with this lady?”
“Or may be his son. Does he have any son who is qualified? Let them make it a family affair. If he had supported his son as a candidate…But people just don’t know when to quit and hand over to the next generation.”
“With a 23-year old wife, he was definitely committed to the next generation.”
“Some people are of the view that his running mate should just run with the mandate, but I don’t think the circumstances favour him. He is from a minority group in Kogi state. He is a Christian, and the party may not back him.”
“Poor James Faleke”
“Yeah, he must be troubled. What if he and Audu had won. And they had been sworn in. But now, there are no guarantees.”
“God’s will is supreme. That is one lesson we all must learn from all this. Remember Abacha? When it was time, God intervened. We are all pencils in God’s hands. You can amass all the wealth in the world, marry all the young women, misapply the people’s money, get so close to Cannan, but you can then fall sick and die. In life, things happen and all you have left is six feet, rich or poor, six feet.”
 “Six feet”
“I hope Robert Mugabe knows this. I hope Grace Mugabe knows.”
 “Why Robert Mugabe?”
“Didn’t you read that story about 50-year old Grace Mugabe, First Lady of Zimbabwe, buying her Robert, a special wheelchair?”
“The way you pronounced Robert, you make it sound like Robot”
“Isn’t that what the 91-year old President of Zimbabwe has become, a Robot. Grace Mugabe’s Robot”
“Sad. In his days, Robert Mugabe, multiple degrees holder, was a shining star. And now, his wife is pushing him around”
“She actually has a PhD, awarded in two months, without examination or dissertation, by her Robert in his capacity as Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe!”
“Mugabe! A Pan-Africanist, who stood up to the British and neo-colonial imperialism; today, he is falling down at public functions, he reads the wrong speech in parliament, he is old and tired, and yet he won’t quit.”
“He should. Zimbabwe already has the oldest President in the world, and he has been in power since 1980- 35 years!”
“With a wife like “Dis Grace” Mugabe, he won’t. She says she is ready to push the wheelchair herself, just in case anybody is in any doubt.”
“I won’t put anything past that woman. Didn’t she once proclaim that any woman who wears mini-skirt and gets raped should not complain? Is that not the same woman who punched a journalist in the face during a foreign visit?”
“Mugabe has stayed too long and has allowed a woman to destroy his legacy. He is so smitten with “Dis-Grace”, he allegedly fired his Chief of Defence Staff last year for staring at her derriere!”
 “That’s madness.”
“But the woman get am oh. The thing dey; very seriously. And you know in that part of Africa, the women don’t need to buy it and enhance it like Kim Kardashian, the thing just dey and you can lose your head.”
“I think someday in Africa, we’d have to start voting for these First Ladies too. Voters should be given the right to choose the President’s wife, or at least they should be screened by parliament. In Africa, the wives wield so much influence.”
“They do in other places too. It is the man that matters.”
“When Mugabe sits in that wheelchair, Zimbabwe is finished!”
“For democracy to work, we need to worry about the leadership recruitment process in Africa. How do we free democracy from a debilitating sense and culture of entitlement. How do we get persons who are still up to it, and who will not aspire to rule till they are on wheelchair or life-long medication.”
““All men who play God and who aspire to be God, let them be reminded, it is just six feet. In Cameroon, Paul Biya has been sitting tight for 33 years, in Congo, Nguesso has been in power for 36 years, in Equitorial Guinea, Mbasogo is almost a god in human form. And you have dos Santos in Angola (36 years) Bashir in Sudan (22 years) Museveni in Uganda (29 years), Idris Deby in Chad (25 years) and Jammeh in Gambia (21 years).”
“Six feet. Just six feet in the grave.”
 “I hope they all know.”
“It is also a lesson for the poor, including those young ones who play God with their talents.”
“Absolutely. There are people these days who play God with their laptops, their pens and I-pads. Imagine some people jubilating over other people’s misfortune.”
“Six feet, my brother, not an inch more nor less. In the grave, all men are equal.”

Declare me gov-elect, Audu’s running mate writes INEC

The crisis emerging from the death of Prince Abubakar Audu, the All Progressives Congress, APC’s candidate in the Kogi State governorship election last night took a new dimension as Mr James Faleke, late Audu’s running mate in the election formally asked the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to declare him winner of the election and name him governor-elect.
Faleke
Faleke
It was also learnt last night that the name of runner up in the APC governorship primary, Alhaji Yahaya Bello had been forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC as a replacement for Audu.
The running mate in the election, James Faleke, yesterday, raised strong objections to the development.
Faleke set his claim on the governorship in two letters to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and the APC on the fact that he had become governor-elect in the face of what he described as the unfortunate death of Audu. He thus cautioned his party not to fall into a trap set for it by INEC to field another candidate or go into a supplementary election.
His assertion was despite strong momentum in Abuja yesterday for Bello. Bello, it was learnt, was being projected by some elements in the party acting in concert with senior presidency officials.
Lobbyists root  for Audu’s son
Meanwhile foot soldiers of the late Audu especially in the Igala-speaking Kogi East were also engaged in a strong lobby for his son, Mohammed Audu to replace the deceased politician on the ticket going into the supplementary election as ordered by INEC.
Audu’s votes died with him, says PDP; drags INEC to court
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP on its part as exclusively reported by Vanguard yesterday, at the end of an emergency caucus on Wednesday night laid its claim to the governorship on the fact that Audu’s votes had died along with him.
National leadership of the PDP, also, yesterday, dragged the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to the Federal High Court over last Saturday’s Kogi State gubernatorial election.
In an originating summons filed by its lead Counsel, Chris Uche, SAN, the PDP is asking the court to declare its candidate and governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada as the rightful winner of the election.
The summons read in part, “ We pray for the return of our candidate who at present polled majority of lawful votes and satisfies the constitutional requirements for return, or in the alternative a fresh poll without APC who at the moment cannot substitute their deceased candidate.”
Faleke writes  INEC
Faleke’s two letters to INEC as exclusively obtained by Vanguard were directed by his lawyer, Chief Wole Olanikpekun, SAN.
In the letter to the INEC chairman, Faleke deposed among others that :
Although an unfortunate and saddening incident had occurred after the announcement of results of the election and subsequent pronouncement of INEC that the election was inconclusive.
The point must quickly be made that INEC’s wrong declaration of inconclusiveness of the election and ordering a supplementary election in 91 polling units was arrived at, according to the Returning Officer; on the basis that the number of cancelled votes outnumbered the number with which the candidate of APC led the candidate of the PDP.
With much respect to INEC and the highly distinguished chairman, the reasoning of INEC is non sequitur. While as at Monday 23, November 2015, INEC still insisted that it was not aware of Prince Abubakar Audu’s transition, however, INEC later on directed the APC to go and conduct another primary election to nominate its candidate for the supplementary election in 91 polling units. With much respect to INEC, this new directive as well, is unfounded, both legally and constitutionally.
It can also not be reasonably or rationally defended. Our client is of the opinion that INEC is inadvertently prompting an avoidable political and legal crisis. What INEC should do is to obey, respect and comply with the letter, spirit, intendment and tenor of the constitution, by not only declaring APC as the winner of the election, but by also declaring our client as Governor-elect.
May we draw Mr. Chairman’s attention to the clear and mandatory provision of section 68(1)(c) of the Electoral Act to the effect that any result declared by Returning Officer shall be final and binding, and can only be reviewed or upturned by an Election Tribunal. In effect, the results already announced by INEC are binding, not only on all the parties, but also on INEC itself.
We want to believe that INEC is not unaware of the binding decisions of our appellate courts on this issue.
Furthermore, by the provision of section 181(i) of the constitution, our client, who was the deputy governorship candidate or the associate of Prince Abubakar Audu at the already concluded election constitutionally and automatically becomes the governor-elect of the state.
With much respect, INEC has no discretion in this matter. May we advise, most humbly, that INEC should not confuse this situation with what is intended in section 33 of the Electoral Act because the situation on ground has nothing to do with changing or substitution of the name of a candidate before election. In fairness to INEC, it had already announced the results of the election, and as at the time it so did, it honestly claimed ignorance of the death of Prince Abubakar Audu.
In law and logic, no new candidate can inherit or be a beneficiary of the votes already cast, counted and declared by INEC before that candidate was nominated and purportedly sponsored.
Assuming without conceding that INEC is even right to order a supplementary election, the votes already cast, counted and declared on Saturday and Sunday, 21 and 22 November 2015 were votes for the joint constitutional ticket of Prince Abubakar Audu and our client.
Therefore, no new or supplementary candidate can hijack, aggregate, appropriate or inherit the said votes. Assuming further, without conceding that supplementary election in 91 polling units can hold as being suggested by INEC, it is our client who should be the automatic candidate of the party, since APC cannot conduct primary election for the supplementary election in 91 polling units.
Chairman sir, this is a rather simple and straight forward matter which does not need any delay, foot dragging or procrastination. It is a constitutional imperative.
Put in other way, INEC has a bounden duty to declare our client the winner of the election. Any attempt to conduct any supplementary election in any unit whatsoever and howsoever will amount to INEC breaching and flouting the constitution and our client would definitely challenge it.
…writes APC too
In the letter to the APC national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Olanipekun, again writing on behalf of Faleke rehearsed the same arguments as put forward to INEC, even as he added that the party should not allow itself to be distracted.
Concluding, he said:
“Arising from the foregoing, our client enjoins the APC not only to support him at actualising the mandate already given to the party under the joint ticket of himself and the late Prince Abubakar Audu, but to also distance itself from the ‘Greek gift’ offer being made by INEC, to wit, that it is allowing the APC to conduct a fresh primary election to nominate a candidate for a supplementary election in 91 polling units, where only about 25,000 PVCs are available; whereas the APC is already leading, by the announced results, with over 40,000 votes.”
APC out with  Audu’s death  — PDP
Meanwhile, the PDP in a statement confirming the deliberations of its national caucus insisted that the death of Audu, the APC’s running mate has inevitably put the party out of the governorship contest.
The party insists:
That with the death of its candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, the APC has legally crashed out of the governorship race as no known law or constitutional provision allows the substituting of candidates, once the ballot process has commenced.
That with the unfortunate death of Prince Abubakar Audu, the APC has no valid candidate in the election, leaving INEC with no other lawful option than to declare the PDP candidate, Capt. Idris Wada as the winner of the election.
The party also:
lNotes that the combined reading of the provisions of the constitution and Electoral Act does not in any war whatsoever support the substitution of candidates for election in the middle of the ballot process.
Notes that if APC is allowed to substitute its original candidate, then the party would have fielded two separate candidates in the same election, a scenario that is completely alien to our electoral laws and to any known democratic norms and practice world-over.
Observes that the APC, fully aware that it has no case before the law is now orchestrating confusion in the polity with a view to diverting attention from its glaring incompetence and failure of governance.
The party also demanded the immediate resignation of the chairman and all national commissioners of INEC and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mallam Abubakar Malami for purportedly deliberately misleading INEC into arriving at the unconstitutional decision of allowing APC to substitute its candidate in the inconclusive election.
The PDP warned that the AGF, INEC and APC were creating a scenario where a loser in a primary will patiently wait for the winning candidate to finish election and then have him either poisoned or assassinated before the final collation of results.
Group asks  INEC to reverse  self
Meanwhile, a group, known as the Concerned Voters in Kogi State has called on INEC to reverse its stance that the governorship election was inconclusive.
Spokesperson of the group, Abdulkareem Jimoh also rejected the invitation by INEC to the APC to present another candidate to replace Audu, saying, “We reject in totality, the decision of INEC in declaring the election inconclusive.
This decision is not only unpopular, but it is against the natural law of justice and fairness, as the number of votes scored and recorded in the just concluded election gave APC a clear victory.
“It is on record that, in the disputed 91 units, only 35,785 voters collected their PVC and are eligible to vote as against the 49,000 registered voters, claimed by INEC.
“We want the electoral body to convince us, how the outstanding 35,785 eligible voters in the said 91 units could upturn the over 41,000 margin already recorded in favour of APC”.

Didier Drogba: Ex-Chelsea striker wants to manage Blues

Former Chelsea striker Didier Drogba says he has an agreement to return to the club once he finishes playing and wants it to be as manager.
According to BBC, Drogba, who now plays in Canada, scored 164 goals in two spells with the Blues.
"I want to give back to the club which has given so much to me. I have agreed that with the club directors," the 37-year-old told BBC "Why not manager? Why not sporting director, trainer at the academy or maybe an advising role for strikers?"

Drogba's Chelsea medal tally

Premier League (4): 2004-05, 2005-06, 2009-10, 2014-15
Champions League (1): 2011-12
FA Cup (4): 2006-07, 2008-09, 2009-10, 2011-12
League Cup (3): 2004-05, 2006-07, 2014-15
Drogba scored the penalty that won the Champions League for Chelsea in 2012 and won his fourth Premier League title on returning to the club last season before he joined Montreal Impact in Major League Soccer.
However, the champions have struggled this season, losing seven of their opening 12 league matches, and are 15th in the Premier League.
Drogba has given his support to manager Jose Mourinho, saying he is the "still the right man" for the job and insisted that he believes the players also still back him, despite rumours of divisions within the dressing room.
"If the club has kept him that means owner Roman Abramovich thinks that he is the right man," he said. "I think the players trust him and he is giving his best to change the situation."
Drogba admitted Chelsea had been going through a "difficult moment" this season, but that back-to-back victories over Norwich and Maccabi Tel Aviv indicated this was now being reversed.
"They have quality when it comes to the players, and quality when it comes to the management," said Drogba.
"This is a club which usually doesn't have a bad season twice."

I Did Not Pay Glowing Tribute To Tinubu Says Soyinka

In a swift reaction, Nigerian nobel laureate, Wole Soyinka, has debunked reports he paid a tribute to APC leader Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Soyinka had been quoted as saying that he admired Tinubu because he saved Nigeria from becoming a one-party state.
“I do not admire Tinubu because he is a saint. I do not admire Tinubu because he is from the South. I do not admire Tinubu because he is a Yoruba. If I want saints, I will proceed to heaven, not on earth. Every human is fallible. I admire Tinubu because he saved Nigeria from the danger of falling into a one-party state," the tribute had said.
“He has nurtured many renowned national successors. He listened to the voice of the masses to surrender his personal ambition at the most critical moment. He strategically terminated the PDP’s 60-year ambition in 16 years," part of it added.
Soyinka however, in a statement signed on Thursday, wondered why people continued to use his name to spread falsehood.
He asked members of the public to be careful about the things they read on the Internet.
He said, “It is difficult to prescribe for the sort of mind that finds itself so inadequate that it must foist its opinions on others, and with such confident sense of impunity. Kindly assist me in letting the public know that I am not in any way connected with the publication.
“I can only yet again recommend my recent ‘occasional’ publication, ‘The Republic of Liars,’ to the public as a cautionary tract, while the growing population of victims await the routine descent of the full operational wrath of Internet policing on all impudent impersonators.”

Alleged $2bn fraud: Court declines to summon Dasuki

The Federal Government, yesterday, failed to persuade the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court to summon the former National Security Adviser, NSA, Col. Sambo Dasuki( retd), to appear before it.

Former national security adviser of ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, Sambo Dasuki . AFP PHOTO
Dasuki is answering to a five-count criminal charge bordering on money laundering and alleged illegal  possession of firearms.
He had since pleaded not guilty to the charge, even as the court, in a ruling on November 3, permitted him to travel to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.
Dasuki, who told the court that he has cancer, was granted three-week medical leave by trial Justice Ademola Adeniyi. However,  a day after the order was made by the court, operatives of the Department of State Service, DSS, besieged Dasuki’s home and had since prevented him from travelling.
In a ruling yesterday, Justice Ademola Adeniyi dismissed an  application filed by the Federal Government with a view to securing an order that will compel the presence of Dasuki in court.
Arguing the application, the Director of the Public Prosecution, DPP, Mr. Mohammed Diri, insisted that it was wrong for Dasuki to stay away from the court when motions bordering on his criminal trial were being heard.
He noted that the former NSA was absent on three consecutive times the case against him came up before the high court.
The DPP maintained that  Section 266 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 made it mandatory that an accused person must always be present in court whenever his case is called up.
However, Justice Adeniyi dismissed the application, yesterday as “frivolous, unwarranted and lacking in merit.”
He agreed with counsel to Dasuki, Mr. Joseph Daudu, SAN, that the DPP misinterpreted the section of the ACJA upon which the application was anchored.
The judge held that going by the law, the presence of an accused person could be dispensed with in court during hearing on interlocutory applications.
He said the presence of Dasuki was not mandatory since the court is still  entertaining interlocutory applications from both parties.
The former NSA had filed an application before the judge to permit his absence in court for now, saying he has been under house arrest  since November 4.
In his fundamental right enforcement application, Dasuki, prayed the court for  an order directing the Federal Government and operatives of the DSS to vacate his house located at 13, John Kadija Street, Asokoro with immediate effect.
Sequel to the application, Justice Adeniyi summoned the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, SAN, to appear in court to explain why Dasuki was barred from traveling despite the permission of the court.
Meantime, Justice Adeniyi has slated December 3 to hear an application asking the court to revoke the bail it granted to Dasuki.

Take Your Time Get The Guy

What Men Want In A Woman… REALLY Want!
Here’s how to understand what men want in a woman, without feeling confused or lost! Men don’t want a challenge, but they do want to be challenged!
Let me explain this. Actively trying to make yourself a challenge will only leave a guy interested in the chase. And when women make guys obsessed with the chase, the guy loses interest in the woman he’s chasing soon after he’s “caught” her Alternatively, being a challenging woman implies a sense of continuity, rather than becoming a single challenge which once completed becomes boring. So how do you be a challenging woman? Answer: What men really want is a woman with her own life. What a man wants is to know that he is being fitted into your weekly planner, rather than you giving up everything and going to set up camp in his! I can’t stress this enough, in men’s minds it is unattractive if after only a brief time with him you give up the rest of your life (friends, family, hobbies) and replace them with him. But take note – this is absolutely NOT the same as the old idea of “playing hard-to-get”.

The Pope's five big issues in Africa

Pope Francis will go to Africa for the first time this week, visiting a refugee camp, a slum and a mosque.
He will make 19 speeches during his tour of Kenya, Uganda and the Central African Republic (CAR) and they will probably address these issues:

1. Peace between Muslims and Christians
He is expected to focus on religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence at a time of rising political instability and extremism in much of the region.
Security is expected to be tight throughout the trip, as the faithful flock to see this popular Pope, who has previously said that Christians would be wrong to equate Islam with violence.
His first stop, Kenya, has seen some of the worst Islamist violence: Two years ago, gunmen from the Somali militant group al-Shabab massacred at least 67 people inside Nairobi's Westgate shopping mall.

In Uganda, his second stop, al-Shabab bombed sports bars in Kampala where fans were watching the 2010 football World Cup on TV.

Five African countries with the most Catholics:

Bangui CathedralImage copyright AP
1. Democratic Republic of Congo: 31 million
2. Nigeria: 20 million
3. Tanzania: 14.2 million
4. Uganda: 14.1 million
5. Angola: 10.8 million
Christianity is projected to be sub-Saharan Africa's largest religious group by 2050 with 1.1bn followers from 517 million in 2010. The Muslim population is expected to grow at faster rate, rising from 248 million to 670 million.
Source: Pew research centre

Many think the third stop on his trip, the CAR, is too dangerous for him to visit.
The Pope's visit to the capital, Bangui, where many have died in violence between largely Muslim Seleka rebels and mainly Christian "anti-balaka" militias, is seen as his most dangerous yet - but potentially also one of his most fruitful as a peace-maker.
In short: He will probably urge Christians and Muslims to get along.

2. Poverty

Pope poster in Kangemi slum, KenyaImage copyright AFP
This is a Pope who has been hailed as the champion of a church for the poor.
His emphasis on the developing world, and the example of simplicity he sets in his own life, will be welcomed in countries where corruption in public life is often seen as an issue.
His capacity to look beyond Europe and embrace the concerns of people around the world is also likely to endear him to the faithful, and to those of other faiths, as this Pope from the southern hemisphere offers a message of hope to the dispossessed, and the struggling.
In Kenya, 75% of the wealth is owned by around 1% of the population, so Pope Francis's message may well prove popular among many of the remaining 99%.
He is likely to criticise inequality and corruption and will visit Kenya's multi-ethnic Kangemi slum - home to around 100,000 people.
In short: He will probably criticise corruption and inequality.

3. The Environment

A woman walks along an oil pipeline near Shell's Utorogu flow station in Warri, Nigeria, Sunday, Jan. 15, 2006.Image copyright AP
With international climate change talks starting in Paris on 30 November, many will be listening closely to what Pope Francis has to say when he speaks in Nairobi to the UN's Environment Programme.
His encyclical on the environment, "Laudato Si" published earlier this year, raised hackles among big business in the US with its apocalyptic warning that humankind risks turning the earth into a "vast pile of filth" by mistreating the planet.
The Pope is unlikely to mince his words.
He will probably emphasise the need for the developed world to stop abusing the planet for profit and to the detriment of the poor, whom he sees as the victims of climate change.
In short: He will probably tell big business to think of the poor.

4. Homosexuality

LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) activists, especially in Uganda, would like the Pope to encourage greater tolerance and speak out against the criminalisation of homosexuality in many African countries.
In the past, when the Pope was asked about a gay priest he said, "Who am I to judge?"
However, the recent Synod on the Family in Rome did not budge on the issue of greater acceptance within the Church for gay Catholics.
Might he directly address the discrimination against gay and lesbian communities on a continent where being gay is often still a crime? Activists certainly hope so.
They think it could make an enormous difference to attitudes in the continent.
Attitudes like that of Guinean Cardinal Robert Sarah who told the Synod that what Nazi and Communist ideology were to the 20th Century, so the twin "beasts" of "Western homosexual and abortion ideologies, and Islamic fanaticism" were for the 21st.
In short: He is unlikely to lecture Africa on LGBT rights.

5. Contraception

An Aids Healthcare Foundation-Kenya worker distributes condoms in the streets of Nairobi on February 14, 2014Image copyright AFP
The Pope once said that Catholics did not have to breed "like rabbits", before the Vatican clarified his remarks to insist that he was not speaking out against large families.
However, many international aid agencies and some Western governments would like the Roman Catholic Church to give up its opposition to artificial contraception, especially its ban on the use of condoms, to help people on a continent where Aids/HIV remains a problem.
Pope Francis is likely to meet people with HIV, but unlikely to budge on contraception.
Large Catholic families are helping to ensure that Africa becomes an ever more important part of the Church.
And the Synod on the Family in October reiterated the Church's hostility towards aid programmes that try to link development aid to the use of artificial contraception.
In short: He is unlikely to scrap the Catholic ban on contraception.

Six months after, Obasanjo lauds Jonathan for successful handover to Buhari

Almost six months after the change of government, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has for the first time congratulated former President Goodluck Jonathan for successfully handing over to President Muhammadu Buhari and commended him for continuing to have faith in Nigeria.
Obasanjo’s commendation was contained in his reply to President Jonathan’s earlier notification of his plans to establish a foundation following the end of his term in office as president.
Jonathan had in a letter dated September 22, 2015, formally notified Obasanjo of his intention to set up a foundation to promote good works.
In the letter which Jonathan started with “Dear Baba,” Jonathan had said:
“I will be devoting the rest of my life and energy to making the world a better place. I am currently finalizing efforts to set up The Goodluck Jonathan Foundation. More details on the work of the foundation will be available at the launch, which I believe should take place by the 3rd quarter of 2016.”
However, Obasanjo, in a response published by the online newspaper, Premium Times, wrote:
“Dear President Goodluck Jonathan,
I write to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of September 22, 2015. I take this opportunity to congratulate you on your successful handover to the current President of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari.
“I am happy to note that you had a good rest and time with your family during the break. I hope you also had time to reflect and see what lessons you have learned and what you can bequeath to others. All of us who have had experience in our service to the nation and to humanity must not put it under the bushel.
“I have to commend you and your Foundation, Goodluck Jonathan Foundation, for the faith you continue to have in Nigeria. Maybe, seeking how to be better and more serviceable to the nation and humanity is also a form of penitence and soul-searching to give conscience a relief and to show remorse.
“I wish you well as you continue to forge ahead with your activities in the coming months and years. If there is any area you feel I can be of help, you should not hesitate to call on me.”

OPINION: Every Pastor Who Collects Tithes is a Thief - Femi Aribisala

Popular political analyst and social commentator, Femi Aribisala, in an article has branded pastors who collect tithes as thieves.

As far as many pastors are concerned, the most important scripture of all is not to be found in the word of Jesus. Neither is it even in the New Testament. That scripture says: “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house, and try me now in this,’ says the LORD of hosts, ‘If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.’” (Malachi 3:10).
This scripture is drummed repeatedly into Christians on Sundays. However, the only time Jesus mentioned tithing in scripture, he pointed out that it was not a weighty matter of the law. (Matthew 23:23). Hebrews says people only receive tithes “according to the law.” (Hebrews 7:5). It then insists tithing (and everything else under the law) has been annulled: “The former regulation is set aside because it was weak and useless.” (Hebrews 7:18-19). Nevertheless, mercenary pastors continue to insist on the payment of tithes.
Latter-day pharisees
Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for keeping part instead of the whole law. (Matthew 23:23). That is what tithe-collecting pastors do today. If we insist our congregants must pay tithes, we must also insist that they keep the rest of the law. James says: “Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all.” (James 2:10). Therefore, if we insist on tithing, we should also refrain from eating pork. We should stone adulterers, execute homosexuals, kill Sabbath violators and restore blood-sacrifices.
Tithe-collecting pastors counter this by maintaining the payment of tithes pre-dated the law. Here Abraham is cited as the cardinal example of someone who paid tithes before the promulgation of the Law of Moses, as did Jacob, his grandson. However, such arguments are disingenuous.
Before the law, tithing was at best an example but not a commandment. Moreover, pastors fail to mention that Abraham only tithed once in his lifetime. When he did, he did not even tithe his own money: he tithed the spoils of war. He gave ten percent of the plunder he took when he rescued Lot to Melchisedec, king of Salem. But then he did not even keep the rest but returned it (all ninety percent) to the king of Sodom.
For his part, Jacob also tithed only once. He did this in a “let’s make a deal” arrangement he offered to God: “Jacob made a vow, saying, ‘If God will be with me, and keep me in this way that I am going, and give me bread to eat and clothing to put on, so that I come back to my father’s house in peace, then the LORD shall be my God. And this stone which I have set as a pillar shall be God’s house, and of all that you give me I will surely give a tenth to you.’” (Genesis 28:20-22). This kind of deal about accepting God only under certain self-serving conditions should certainly not be a term of reference for any serious believer.

Lies upon lies
The first lie pastors tell Christians is what some have referred to as “the eleventh commandment:” “Thou shalt pay thy tithes to thy local church.” But the bible says no such thing. The storehouse of Malachi was not a church. It was a place where food was kept.
Pastors hide from church-members the fact that money was not acceptable as tithe. The tithe was a tenth of the seed and fruit of the land and of the animals which ate of the land. (Leviticus 27:30-32). That is why God says: “Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be FOOD in my house.” (Malachi 3:10). He does not say “that there may be MONEY in my house.” The food was used to feed the Levites, the poor, widows, orphans and strangers.
Pastors also conveniently fail to teach the biblical tithe. The principles of tithing were not laid down by Malachi. They were laid down by Moses. The study of Moses’ guidelines quickly reveals that the biblical tithe has no application whatsoever to Christians and is mischievously violated by tithe-collecting pastors today.
According to the Law of Moses, the tithe was divided into three allocations. The first year, it was given to the Levite. The second year, it was given to widows, orphans and the poor. The third year, it was eaten in the company of the faithful before the Lord as thanksgiving for his faithfulness. (Deuteronomy 14:22-28). In the seventh year, there was no planting and no reaping and therefore no tithing.
So the next time your pastor asks you to pay tithe, ask him about the seventh-year reprieve. Also ask him if you can give your tithe to the orphanage, or bring it as food items to be eaten in church. Believe me; he will not agree with you because it is your money he is after.
Inapplicability of tithes
Tithing was only applicable to Jews and to the land of Israel. When large populations of Jews lived in Babylon, Ammon, Moab, Egypt, and Syria, these lands became tithe-able lands. However, tithes were not acceptable from strictly Gentile lands. So you need to ask your pastor how come he is collecting tithes in Nigeria.
Servants or slaves who worked on the land did not tithe because the land did not belong to them. Since only agricultural and animal resources were included, a fisherman gave no tithe of his fisheries. Neither did a miner or a carpenter pay tithes, nor anyone from the various professional occupations. So if you are not a farmer or a keeper of livestock, tell your 419 pastor tithing is biblically inapplicable to you.
Moreover, the only people authorised to receive tithes were the Levites. (Hebrews 7:5). So if your Pastor is a “tithe-collector,” ask him if he happens to be a Jew. Remind him that, even though a Jew, Jesus could not receive the tithe because he was not from the tribe of Levi but from that of Judah.
The trick, of course, is for pastors today to claim we are “Levites.” If your pastor is one such dissembler, ask him if he lives as a Levite. Remind him that Levites had no land and did not have private property. Ask him also how he knows he is from the tribe of Levi, which happens to be one of the lost tribes of Israel. Point out to him that even Jewish rabbis don’t claim to be Levites today because all Jewish genealogical records were lost with the destruction of the Temple in AD 70, ensuring that it is no longer possible to ascertain the true identity of Levites.
Therefore, if Jews no longer tithe because the Levites are a lost tribe, how can Christian pastors collect tithes when we are not even Jewish, how much more Levites? If Jewish rabbis, whose terms of reference remain the Old Testament no longer collect tithes, then pastors who insist Christians are under a New Testament have no business doing so.
The conclusion then is inescapable. Every pastor who collects tithes is nothing but “a thief and a robber.” (John 10:1).

Arsenal 3-0 Victory Over Zagreb Another Hopeful Of Second Round

Arsenal have revived their chances of progressing to the knockout stage of UEFA Champions League following their convincing 3-0 victory over Dinamo Zagreb on Tuesday night.
Arsène Wenger’s men had to exercise patience against their deep-lying opponents earlier in the game but a superb goal from Mesut Ozil broke the deadlock for the Gunners.
The outstanding Alexis Sanchez doubled the lead soon after, sweeping home Nacho Monreal’s low cross, before making the game safe after half-time with a composed finish.
This was a fine Arsenal performance, and these three points could still prove vital after Bayern Munich comfortably beat Olympiacos at Allianz Arena. As things stand, Wenger’s men will need to win in Piraeus by two clear goals or a score of 3-2 or higher if they are to reach the last 16.
On the evidence of this performance, they seem to have every chance of doing just that.

Pretty Woman Catch Flesh Eating Virus On Her Booty

A beautiful British mom died after contracting a flesh-eating bug following a "butt" operation.
Jane Kiiza caught the rare bacterial infection after the procedure to remove fat from various parts of her body and inject it into her buttocks. This operation is commonly referred to as "getting booty shots."
The 47-year-old is the first British casualty to die from the procedure, an inquest heard.
Kiiza visited top surgeon Dr. Shailesh Vadodaria for the "Brazilian butt lift" surgery in June this year at an exclusive clinic in London’s Harley Street. During surgery, Dr Vadodaria removed fat from her back, legs and stomach and injected it into her buttocks.

Arms Deal Report Vs PMB Orders Of Arrest What Next ? By Adefemi

I was sitting in the corner of my abode and I begin to reminisce on general issues. Then I came up with this facts but seems psychological in nature. It is a confirmed statement that "President Buhari had ordered the arrest of all persons indicted in the report of alleged arms deal". Former National Security adviser to Goodluck is at the forefront now and my question is, will PMB arrests or questions GEJ as well or his order of arrest will not leave him out? Time shall tell because Goodluck said in Washington D.C that the figures are bogus that he did not award any 2billion dollars contracts. I believe in justice but not in witch hunting because Nigerians have suffered a lot in the hands of terrorists while naturally suffering from gluttonous politicians whom all they do is to siphon public money. I was dazed when Sabo Dasuki said he has a lot to tell Nigerians and I begin to sense that there's more to this arm's deals scandal than meets the eyes. I hate corruption with passion and for the fact that I want PMB led Federal Govt to recovered stolen money, all hands must be on deck for every players to work together. I have my reservation and that is "An accuse person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by competent court of law". Dasuki's case seems to be like a scape goat because there is certain court orders that was jettisoned. I want thorough investigation on this issue and people must be brought to book. Nigerians deserved best treatment as citizens. God bless Nigeria/ns

Pause: When you have never done something before by Strive Masiyiwa

I found this on FB and I think is good to share it with my esteem readers. Enjoy
Joshua was an amazing general and leader of his people. One of my favorite quotes from him is something I say whenever I have to do something new: "Now pay attention, because we have never been this way before."
Simple words, but full of wisdom. There are many situations in life in which we find ourselves doing something new. This is when we must pay real attention.
Maybe you’ve just been promoted to supervisor, manager, or even CEO. You might even have just become a member of Parliament or a Minister of Government for the first time: ‪#‎Pay‬ attention, because you have not been this way before.
Perhaps you have been asked to serve on the board of an organisation or a company: #Pay attention, because you have not been this way before.
Then again you might be about to leave your job to start a business as an entrepreneur: #Pay attention, because you have not been this way before!
People who go into something for the first time without the humility to admit that it’s new, and that it requires learning the ropes, often pay a terrible price. In the process, they sometimes inflict suffering on themselves, the business (or government or NGO), and even those who follow them.
The Tentmaker said: "Don't be like them."
A friend of mine was a senior executive in a global company for many years. When he decided it was time to start his own business, he passed by my office to announce his plans.
"I think those are great ideas, but why don't you do a short course at a local college or online on entrepreneurship first," I suggested.
"My friend, I have been running large international businesses. Entrepreneurship courses are for kids!" He replied with obvious indignation. I shut my mouth.
Not long after, I sadly learnt that he had started something that failed dismally.
The other day, I learnt that one of the greatest football players had enrolled in a course to get a coaching certificate. When asked why he felt he needed such a course, he replied: "I was a player not a coach. As a player, I saw things as a player, not as the coach. Now I want to see as a coach."
__This is the attitude you must always have.
Finally, don't measure yourself against others by saying things like, "If so and so can do it, I can do it, too. After all, he was not so smart at school."
That is the talk of someone who is not wise.
You can become a great entrepreneur. But first go invest in learning everything you can about it. Take some courses. Join associations and clubs of entrepreneurs. Read their magazines and newspapers. Immerse yourself in understanding how an entrepreneur thinks, and reacts. Read books about or written by entrepreneurs. Attend conferences. Learn their language. Spend more time with them, every day. That is how you pay attention.
When you’re about to go somewhere you’ve never been before, study the terrain carefully. Even if you plan to chart a whole new course, learn all you can from the maps and the mapmakers that have gone before you.

Biafra: Transfer me to prison custody, Kanu begs court

Hundreds of agitators for the creation of Biafra Republic, yesterday, besieged an Abuja Chief Magistrate Court sitting at Wuse Zone 2, demanding the unconditional release of the self-declared leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu.
The placard carrying protesters, who wore T-shirts and caps with inscriptions like “Biafra Now or Never”, “Buhari Release Kanu For Us”, “On Biafra We Stand”, yesterday, sang and danced outside the court premises, while hearing was going on in the criminal case that was entered  against Kanu by the federal government.
Meantime, following an order of the court, the Department of State Security, DSS, yesterday, produced the detained Director of Radio Biafra and Television, Kanu.
Chief Magistrate Shauibu Usman had at the last adjourned date, berated the DSS over its failure to produce Kanu in court on two consecutive times the matter came up  before the court.

Mutant mosquitoes 'resist malaria'

US scientists say they have bred a genetically modified (GM) mosquito that can resist malaria infection.
If the lab technique works in the field, it could offer a new way of stopping the biting insects from spreading malaria to humans, they say.
The scientists put a new "resistance" gene into the mosquito's own DNA, using a gene editing method called Crispr.
And when the GM mosquitoes mated - their offspring inherited the same resistance, PNAS journal reports.
In theory, if these mosquitoes bite people, they should not be able to pass on the parasite that causes malaria.

About 3.2bn people - almost half of the world's population - are at risk of malaria.
Bed nets, insecticides and repellents can help stop the insects biting and drugs can be given to anyone who catches the infection, but the disease still kills around 580,000 people a year.
'Pivotal role'
Scientists have been searching for new ways to fight malaria.
The University of California team believe their GM mosquito could play a pivotal role - breeding resistant offspring to replace endemic, malaria-carrying mosquitoes.
They took a type of mosquito found in India - Anopheles stephensi - on which to experiment.
Dr Anthony James and his team showed that they could give the insect new DNA code to make it a poor host for the malaria parasite.
The DNA, which codes for antibodies that combat the parasite, was inherited by almost 100% of the mosquito offspring and across three generations.

Audu remains APC’s candidate, but… – INEC

By Emmanuel Aziken, Political Editor, Charles Kumolu, Kingsley Fanwo, Levinus Nwabughiogu & Omeiza Ajayi
ABUJA — The anti-climax arising from the death of Prince Abubakar Audu in the Kogi State governorship election continued yesterday after the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC affirmed that the dead Audu remained the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The assertion came as a meeting of senior INEC officials in Abuja called to ponder possible options on the issue was temporarily aborted after news emerged that Audu had ‘resurrected’.
Abubakar Audu
Abubakar Audu
The dispersal of the meeting coincided with jubilations in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital that Audu had been revived.
The news of Audu’s ‘revival’ about midday followed insistence of some prophets who stormed the late Audu’s country home in Ogbonicha, that they would revive him. The prophets, who were initially rebuffed by Audu’s family members, however, got passage into the room where the corpse was kept after desperate sympathisers overwhelmed the family members and broke the door to the room.
While they prayed, the grave diggers who all along had been busy at one section of Audu’s expansive country home relaxed. The relaxation in part gave fillip to rumours that Audu was being revived, a development that spread far and wide, even to INEC headquarters.
When they reconvened after the initial disruption, senior INEC officials affirmed that the commission was ignorant of Audu’s death.
INEC, however, said although it heard the news of Audu’s passing just like most other Nigerians, it was nevertheless meticulously studying the situation with a view to coming up with an appropriate position that would be fair, lawful and acceptable to all. Director of Voter Education, Publicity, Civil Society and Gender Liaison at the Commission, Mr Oluwole Osaze-Uzi  told Vanguard yesterday that INEC would make its position public as soon as it was addressed by APC on the issue.
Last night APC officials were still contemplating the nature of address to be presented to the electoral commission. Contacted on assertions by INEC, APC deputy national publicity secretary, Timi Frank promised to call back after further consultations. He, however, did not call back or respond to calls to his mobile phone at press time.
It is expected that whenever the APC addresses the commission that the principal officials of the body would meet with its consortium of lawyers and its in-house legal team to decide on the issue.
APC has to notify us  — INEC
Also speaking, Deputy Director, Publicity at the commission, Mr Nick Dazang, said yesterday: “APC has to do proper notification, and accompany it with the certificate of death issued by a medical doctor.
“When something like this happens, the party on which platform the candidate contested will need to notify the commission; of course, we have heard and read like everyone else but we need to be notified.
“Once the commission is notified, it will look at relevant clauses of the 1999 Constitution as amended, the Electoral Act 2010 as amended and also the Constitution of APC itself.
“All these relevant laws will be looked at with a view to determining what to be done to ensure that whatever is done subsequently is done within the ambit of the law.
“INEC as a law-abiding body will do everything prescribed by the law.
“Thankfully we have a consortium of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) that provide counsel to the commission. We also have a very vibrant legal service department, headed by a SAN,” Dazang said.
The Electoral Act prescribes 14 days for the conduct of a supplementary poll. INEC was, however, silent on whether it would go ahead with the supplementary polls but said it would not rely on mere opinions of people or sentiments to take a position. INEC added that the situation in Kogi would not affect the conduct of the December 5 governorship election in Bayelsa state.
We’ll be within the law — APC
Meanwhile, the APC has promised to act within the confines of the law in resolving issues concerning the replacement of its governorship candidate in the election and the pursuit of the supplementary elections as announced by INEC. In a statement issued by its national secretary, Mai Mala Buni, the party said:
“On INEC’s position that the November 21, 2015, governorship poll in Kogi State was inconclusive, APC is studying the declaration of the Returning Officer, Prof. Emmanuel Kucha, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, based on Section M, Paragraph 4(Page 22) of INEC Approved Guidelines and Regulations for the Conduct of the 2015 General Elections.
“APC believes in the rule of law, strict adherence to 1999 Constitution and Electoral Act 2010(as Amended).
“Our government is a product of the rule of law. We have absolute faith in the nation’s law, and we will not in any manner undermine the law. Our observations and position will be within the laws of the land.
“The situation in Kogi State is a test case for the rule of law and our growing democracy. APC is committed to its pledge to ensure a sustainable democracy in the country”, it said.
The declaration to explore all options available to it on the matter was contained in a press statement issued by the party’s deputy national publicity secretary, Mr. Timi Frank.
He said: “We are exploring all known choices and alternatives to us in line with our party’s dictates and respect of the rule of law as is in conformity with laid down laws and rules of our country.
“To say that we are shocked and dumbfounded at Audu’s death is to scratch our pains on the surface as the Kogi Prince typified what a real democrat radiates. A politician who chose to remain in opposition after losing his governorship in 2003 despite the intimidations on him but rather chose to see the nation get its deserved change in leadership”, Frank said.

Diezani: Life as a cancer patient

What you are about to read is probably the most anticipated story of the year birthed in the long awaited authoritative investigative newspaper of the future. This pregnant saga fell into labour last week in the pre-natal wing of Pendulum ward  and it has now given birth to a big bouncing baby christened, The Boss.
This is an apt metaphor for the melodramatic scoop which is the cover of the first edition of what I believe will be a catalyst for unbiased investigative reporting in Nigeria. The Boss had long been conceptualised as a  leadership newspaper to occupy the void created by lack of true and credible investigative journalism in some traditional and online media. The original plan was to launch in December or early January. But the Diezani-Alison Madueke story changed all that. It was too compelling to restrict to the Pendulum column alone.  And here we are with what promises to be an exciting addition to the media landscape in Nigeria and beyond featuring an enthralling cover story that will run and run.
After that effervescent introduction of the meeting between this reporter and the embattled former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke, published in Thisday, everyone requested for details of the encounter. Some unbelieving Thomases even suggested the story was pure fiction, or at the very best “faction” to borrow Kole Omotoso’s word. They wondered why a more comprehensive interview could not be published, garnished with clear crispy

Why did terrorists carried out the attack in Mali? What are their demands?

Al-Mourabitoun and their allies, the Movement of Oneness and Jihad and Ansar Al-Din, have been heavily involved in northern Mali. In 2012, they took over most of that region known as Azawad including the three major cities of Timbuktu, Gao and Kidal.
In 2013, they were ejected from those cities through a French military air campaign. Meanwhile, the Malian army assisted by French troops retook the cities and took prisoners. Some of those arrested are still in Malian jails.
Al-Mourabitoun wants to free them by any means.
The other demand is a political one. They say they want the government to stop persecuting "their people in the north and in the centre". This is interesting because usually they refer to the north only as the area they mostly care about because its inhabitants are mostly fair-skinned Tuareg and Arabs who complain of racism, marginalisation and injustice.
Now the mention of the centre comes after members of the black African tribe of Fullan took up arms and began to fight against the government, allegedly in coordination with al-Qaeda-linked groups in Mali.
This can only complicate the situation for the regime in Bamako as even back ethnic ties are joining the rebellion against it.

Do You Know? Bill Clinton Had Health Challenges

Bill Clinton was the 42nd President of the United States, serving from 1993 to 2001. After he left office, he continued to be active in the public sphere, touring the world, writing books, and campaigning for Democrats, including his wife, Hillary Rodham Clinton.
On September 2, 2004, while campaigning for Kerry, Clinton had an episode of angina and was evaluated at Northern Westchester Hospital. It was determined he did not suffer a coronary infarction, and he was sent home, returning the following day for angiography, which disclosed multiple vessel coronary artery disease. He was transferred to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City, where he underwent a successful on-pump quadruple coronary artery bypass surgery on September 6, 2004. The medical team stated, had he not had surgery, he would have likely suffered a massive heart attack within a few months. As a complication of his heart surgery, Clinton underwent a follow-up surgery on March 10, 2005 for a left pleural effusion, removing scar tissue and fluid from his left chest cavity.
On February 11, 2010, he was rushed to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City after complaining of chest pains, and had two coronary stents implanted in his heart. He has since recovered and become a vegan.

Our fears for Minister, Babatunde Fashola

By Tonnie Iredia
About eleven days ago, Babatunde Raji Fashola, former Governor of Lagos State was assigned with a higher national responsibility as Minister of Power, Works and Housing. Before this appointment, many people prominent among them, inhabitants of his own Lagos State worked assiduously to truncate the ambition.
Sen. Fashola
Sen. Fashola
As a matter of fact, as soon his successor, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode assumed office; Fashola began to enjoy ample bad press. Although the All Peoples Congress (APC) to which both Fashola and Ambode belong attributed the bad press to the handiworks of mischief makers sponsored by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the contents of the bad press portrayed a different direction. This is because the allegations that Fashola spent N78.3m on his personal website, www.tundefashola.com and N139m to construct two boreholes at the Lagos House, Ikeja, when he was governor were allegedly found on the state government’s website. Meanwhile the government did not refute the allegations but merely denied authorship making it easy for the Senate to premise its clearance of Fashola on his response to the allegations.
This column was compelled to wonder at the time why our people are ever so uncharitable bearing in mind the several achievements of the man as governor. We had thought that what happened to Fashola as soon as he left office contradicted the major infrastructural face-lift he gave to Lagos in several areas like roads, hospitals and sports. It was in earnest impossible to seek to undermine the instantaneous transformation of the chaotic Oshodi bus stop and its notorious under the bridge brigandage. The same is true of his contribution to the creation of a Traffic Management Authority LASTMA– a strategy that was designed to ease the burden of the heavy traffic in Lagos.
Like any other being, Fashola is human and thus can have his own weaknesses which; from the benefit of hindsight, can be said to be too few in the face of his overwhelming good performance. Those who say many of his projects particularly housing were elitist may have a point but it is no longer the place of Fashola to attend to that. If he built for the rich, let his successor be admonished to now build for the poor while those of us who admired him as governor are allowed to continue to relish his simplicity and unfettered understanding of governance. He is a leader who listens; when we joined other Nigerians, to condemn his deportation of some Nigerians from Lagos, he reversed it with a public apology.
Luckily, President Muhammadu Buhari believes in him because he did not only discountenance the orchestrated but unproved allegations against Fashola but used his own understanding of the man’s competence to give him a 3-man assignment.  We commend the President and urge other Nigerians not to get carried away by fake whistle blowers who have only a selfish agenda. One way of doing this is never to join in condemning anyone until his version is heard and rejected by a court of competent jurisdiction.
For instance, while we cannot vouch for former Governor Rotimi Amaechi’s integrity or what he did as Governor of Rivers State, we learnt a lot when a professional colleague who has lived all his life in Port Harcourt said the other day that he doesn’t admire Amaechi but doesn’t prefer Governor Wike. I said why? He replied that if the allegations against the former governor were genuine; the state government would have inundated our anti-corruption bodies with massive proof instead of organizing media documentaries to prove the same allegations which a judicial commission was hearing alongside the media hate speeches. Otherwise, why present a case to a court when simultaneous trial is holding on the media through news features, documentaries, paid averts and the internet?  Even if allegations are true, our constitutional injunction that every accused person is deemed innocent until proven otherwise should prevail. It is the best way to differentiate the real from fake allegations
We should always appreciate those who like Fashola have worked well. In any case if the rest of the country cannot see sense in all we have said about Fashola, Lagos State where the primary evidence is domiciled should. Fortunately, Governor Ambode while delivering a keynote address at the Lagos Business School Alumni Conference last week noted that “We are privileged to have my predecessor in office at the center in charge of Works, Power and Housing.
This effectively means we have a synergy between Lagos and the Federal Government to accelerate and actualize our current plans for infrastructural development.”  This idea is by far superior to the old posture in which Lagos was at war with the federal government to its own detriment during the Obasanjo Presidency. More importantly, we all want an end to our perennial power dilemma. Another great Nigerian, the late Bola Ige was there before but was made to fail. Herein lies our major fear for Fashola—will generator and diesel contractors and other interests allow him to work?
Two things are however currently in favour of Fashola. The first is a track record of service which made Wole Soyinka to refer to the man as a mechanic who “approaches things in a very clinical mechanized fashion.” According to Soyinka, Fashola “diagnoses the problem and then goes at it like a skilled mechanic, looking at the pieces. The ones which work, he puts back and those that don’t work, he sets out to completely eliminate or transform them. And he does it ruthlessly because he is not a politician.”  The second is poetic focus which Fashola has in abundance. When all was against him the other day, instead of despairing, Fashola put his detractors behind when he said, “When you wrestle with a pig, the pig gets happy and you get dirty. For those who still wish to remain in the mud, they should look in the mirror. For those who wish to throw mud at me, they should look at their own hands. As for me, I have moved on. My job is done.” We wish Fashola and Nigeria well.
