Ebola Outbreak: The Vaccine and 'Secret Serum' Explained - TheGuardian

Ebola Vaccine

As Nigeria becomes the fourth west African country fighting to contain Ebola, Professor Eleanor Riley from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine explains the latest medical science for preventing and treating the disease.

Why hasn't an Ebola vaccine been developed so far?

Ebola, which has occasional small, often easily contained, outbreaks, is never going to be a high priority for the World Health Organisation(WHO) or donors. They aren't going to vaccinate everybody at birth against the disease because of the amount of effort and resource you would have to put in to save a small number of lives.

Is that still true after this outbreak?

Yes and no. This is the biggest outbreak by far. We've known about Ebola since the 1970s and most outbreaks have been very well controlled. This one is unusual. Somebody took their eye off the ball and maybe that won't happen again, we don't know. But I think this has been a real learning point for public health.

It takes two or three weeks after vaccination for your immune response to get to a protective level. So it's not as if you can go into a village where there's been an outbreak, vaccinate everyone and they're protected. Once you've got an outbreak, vaccination isn't necessarily much help.

Why Men Sleep After Sex?

Since the inception of sexuality, many reasons have been given why men sleep just immediately after sex; with ‘they are selfish’ point topping the list of reasons, many need to know the real reasons why this has been prominent with men.
Although sex has been referred to as one of the most enjoyable things between a man and woman,  the woman race has been on the search to know why men nods straight to sleep after a good sex. With most women thinking ”dropping” straight into sleep by their men is a complete negative phenomena, the general notion has been that men are actually selfish to sleep immediately not minding how their mates feel about it.
Related:
Although men argue that the nature of sleeping immediately after sex  is due to tiredness from its rigors, Scientists have however found a good argument for men by confirming that ”men sleep after sex because they just cannot help it”. In a recent publication by Punch, it has been ascertained that men sleep after sex because they have little power over their bodies at that point in time, hence, not being able to stay awake after the whole rigor of sex.
Scientists have said that men really do need to sleep after sex when they climax because their brains become flooded with sleep-inducing chemicals such as oxytocin, serotonin and prolactin. Also, the blood rush after the climax depletes the muscles of energy-producing glycogen and because men typically have higher muscle density than women, they become more tired after sex.

Tony Tom, who is the owner of a bike shop near Robin’s California home, told The Sun the actor threw himself into riding to help beat drink and drugs and battle depression.
He said Williams may have feared returning to his addictions when the degenerative brain disorder made biking impossible.

“He could have turned back to his earlier vices if he wasn’t riding and maybe that was one of the things he was thinking about.”

Confessions of a fine-dining waiter: What they really think of you, and do they spit in food?

He may be bring you coffee with a smile, but what does the waiter really think of you? Source: Supplied

REGARD them, or disregard them, waiters know exactly what makes for a good dining experience. They have a lot of power to make it either very good, or bad.
So what do they love and hate, do they really spit in food, and what do they talk about after you leave?
WHEN YOU ARRIVE
There’s nothing worse than someone being presumptuous when they arrive.
You can tell when someone is going to be trouble from the minute you greet them.
It’s the worst when they demand a special table on the spot.
If you’ve made reservations, and you make a request for a certain table in due time, that’s fair enough, we will do all we can to accommodate your request.
You need to understand, in a good restaurant, everything is planned down to a fine art.
If you want a good table, book early. We seat people in order of when they book, so if you’re arriving and throw your weight around and say ‘no, I want that table’ and think you’re commanding enough, and confident enough to get your way, it means you’re basically stealing from someone else who has booked earlier and done the right thing.
