Debate: APC Shielding Buhari’s Intellectual Laziness, Says Fani-Kayode
- UPP: Boycott, a great disappointment
Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Presidential Campaign Organisation said
on Friday that the decision by the APC not to participate in the
presidential debate being organised by the Broadcasting Organisations of
Nigeria (BON) was simply to shield from Nigerians and the international
audience its candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari’s “intellectual
laziness and inability to constructively engage contemporary national
issues in a live television and radio debate.”
The presidential candidate of the United Progressive Party (UPP), Chief
Dr. Chekwas Okorie also described the decision of the former Head of
State, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) not to participate in the
presidential debate as a great disappointment.
Director of Media and Publicity of the Campaign Organisation, Chief
Femi Fani-Kayode stated that the APC knew that General Buhari “will
flunk it if he is subjected to the rigours of debate on issues of
national governance and development.”

Widow, 50, bags 3 years imprisonment for drug peddling
Lagos – A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday sentenced a 50-year-old
widow, Nwakpa Nwore, to three years imprisonment for dealing in Cannabis
Sativa, also known as Indian hemp.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke sentenced the accused after she had pleaded guilty to a one-count charge of drug trafficking preferred against her by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The accused was arraigned on Oct. 10, 2014 and had pleaded guilty to the charge.
Justice Aneke had then adjourned the case for a review of facts and judgment.
When the case was called on Friday, a prosecution witness, Mr Lawrence Odede, who is a Superintendent of Narcotics with the NDLEA, gave his testimony before the court.
“On Sept. 11, 2014 when the accused was arrested, two officers of the NDLEA, Mr Safianu Abdulsalam and Mr Iluobe Frank, came to my office with nine sacks of a substance suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.
“I conducted a preliminary test on the substance and it turned out to be Cannabis Sativa. I also weighed the substance and found it to be 59.15 kilograms,” Odede said.

APC condemns alleged plan to use sponsored protests to force election postponement
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly condemned the reported
plan by the advocates of the postponement of next month’s general
elections to sponsor protests across the country against INEC as a way
of forcing the commission to shift the elections, scheduled for Feb.
14th and 28th.
In a statement issued in Lagos on Friday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said those pushing for the elections to be shifted are also seeking to instigate the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who will serve as part of the ad-hoc staff for INEC during the polls to say they do not feel safe to be part of the elections in certain parts of the country.
It said even if the NYSC members refuse to participate in the elections in certain parts of the country, which will be within their right, there will be no shortage of those willing to serve as ad-hoc staff
”It has also come to our notice that these election-shift proponents are holding clandestine meetings with various groups, including a section of the media, to recruit them for their dubious campaigns to force a postponement of the election,” APC said, adding, however, that all the shenanigans of the election-shift advocates will fail, as Nigerians have seen through them and have stepped up their collection of PVCs in readiness for the elections.
”The assurances by INEC, that 65 million PVCs are now ready and that the remaining 3.8 million will be ready in due course have heightened the belief among Nigerians that the electoral umpire is indeed ready, willing and able to conduct the elections as scheduled.
”That is why we are surprised that instead of encouraging Nigerians who have not done so to go and collect their PVCs, instead of heeding the advice for the declaration of a three-day public holidays to enable working class people to collect their PVCs, all they are interested in is how to sponsor various dubious individuals and groups to stage protests against INEC.
”The PDP has variously said it is ready for the elections as scheduled, but not once has it urged Nigerians to go and collect their PVCs, knowing full well that the problem now is more of collection than anything else. The Presidency has also not made any effort to encourage Nigerians to collect their PVCs. Instead, it has been openly pushing for the elections to be shifted on the basis of inadequate PVC distribution, as shown by the call in London recently by the National Security Adviser.
”Undoubtedly, public funds have been deployed to sponsor ‘talking heads’ to make the TV rounds to parrot the lies that over 30 million voters have yet to collect their PVCs, when INEC has said 42.7 million out of 68.8 million PVCs have been collected, and that it will distribute PVCs until the eve of the polls These anti-election antics are too glaring for Nigerians not to notice. The dirty tricks point to one and one thing only: The PDP and the Presidency are mortally terrified of the elections being held as scheduled, because they know they will surely lose,” APC said.
The party called on INEC to urgently decentralize the distribution of the PVCs to the polling units to enhance collection efforts, while appealing to Nigerians to make extra efforts to collect their PVCs so that the PDP and the Presidency will run out of excuses for trying to dodge the elections.
”On our part, we will continue with our campaign for Nigerians to collect their PVCs, and we hereby re-state our stand that under no circumstances shall we accept the postponement of the elections. We are ready for the Feb. 14th and 28th general elections,” it said.

Should we all be drinking our coffee cold? Cold-brews ‘tastier and better for body’
It might take some getting used to, especially on a frosty winter morning.
But drinking our coffee cold could be a tastier and healthier way to get our caffeine fix, enthusiasts say.
Fifty years after the Toddy system made it popular in the 1960s, cold-brew coffee is enjoying a resurgence.
Distinct
from iced coffee – which is made with a shot of hot espresso poured
over ice, often with extra flavourings - cold-brew is made without any
heat at all.
Fifty years after the Toddy system made it popular in the 1960s, cold-brew coffee is enjoying a resurgence
Instead, ground coffee is steeped in water for 12 hours and served cold.
Brewing
in this way makes the coffee far less acidic (heating releases acidic
oils in the bean) which means it is naturally sweeter as well as being
better for our bodies.
Tests carried out by Toddy showed that acid levels are typically just a third of those in coffee that has been brewed normally.
Nutritionist
Vicki Edgson, author of the alkaline-based diet cookbook Honestly
Healthy, said: ‘There are definitely benefits to cold-brewed coffee
because it’s more alkaline.
‘The body functions best when in a relatively alkaline state.

PDP Gubernatorial aspirant, Jimi Agbaje has reacted to
Governor Fashola’s statement accusing his company of tax evasion in
Lagos for four years. Jimi reacted in a press statement released yesterday through his director of media. Find it below.
Mr. Jimi Agbaje expresses surprise at this rather personal and unprovoked attack against his person by Governor Raji Fashola. Just in January, the Commissioner for Finance sent a personal letter to Mr. Agbaje, commending him for his faithfulness in payment of taxes relating to his residence.

Argument King Salman’s Shady History
President Obama wants to work with the leader of the
House of Saud. But the new king of Saudi Arabia has troubling ties to
radical Islamists.
The U.S. ambassador in Riyadh, Joseph Westphal, hailed the new Saudi ruler on Friday, proclaiming that ties “will only be strengthened by the wisdom and courage that is the essence of King Salman.” This was not just standard boilerplate from serving U.S. officials: Former U.S. envoy to Saudi Arabia Robert Jordan described Salman as “a reformer … well prepared for the task at hand,” and the Washington Post is reporting that analysts consider Salman “a moderate in the mold of Abdullah,” the late king.
Yet Salman has an ongoing track record of patronizing hateful extremists that is now getting downplayed for political convenience. As former CIA official Bruce Riedel astutely pointed out, Salman was the regime’s lead fundraiser for mujahideen, or Islamic holy warriors, in Afghanistan in the 1980s, as well as for Bosnian Muslims during the Balkan struggles of the 1990s.

Article written by Pres Jonathan's new media aide, Reno Omokri. Read and share your thoughts...
On Tuesday the 27th of January, in Lafia, Nasarawa state, President Jonathan said “we are building a country for a digital generation”. Let us ponder on that for a second. That statement rings true, as I cannot imagine any truly patriotic Nigerian that will want Nigeria to remain in an analogue state. That being said, what place does a broom have in a digital society? You will agree with me that brooms are more suited for an analogue society.

Why are all these Naija hotel workers striking and protesting?
First, it was the staff of Radisson Blu Hotel on Ozumba Mbadiwe,
Victoria Island. The hotel had to be temporarily shut down after their
workers refused to continue work, claiming they haven't been paid for at
least two months. In fact they protested in front of the hotel on
Monday January 26th. Now it's the staff of Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos. A
few of them have sent me emails explaining their own side of what's
happening. Apparently, over 100 of them have refused to work, alleging
ill treatment and not being paid enough.
Isn't there like a union for hotel workers in Nigeria that can sort this out for members?

Soludo's self serving article on Economic management is deficit in facts, logic & honor - Okonjo-Iweala
1. For anyone who has not read Professor Charles Soludo’s article on January 25 2015, I would encourage them to do so. It is littered with abusive and unbecoming language. It shows how an embittered loser in the Nigerian political space can get so derailed that they commit intellectual harakiri by deliberately misquoting economic facts and maliciously turning statistics on their head to justify a hatchet job. We hope all the intellectuals in the international circles in which Professor Soludo has told us he flies around in will read what a Professor of Economics has chosen to do with his intellect.
