Key National Conference Recommendations You Need to Know

At the just concluded National Conference.... thanks to the great leaders for their participation.....

The Conference commenced March 17 when it was inaugurated by Mr. Jonathan.
It was originally billed to last three months but was granted about one month extension.
It concluded committee sittings and plenary sessions in mid-July after which delegates went on a short break to enable the conference’s secretariat compile the report.

US Ebola patient Kent Brantly 'thrilled to be alive'

One of the US aid workers who recovered from an Ebola infection is "thrilled to be alive" as he and another patient are discharged from hospital.

Dr Kent Brantly, 33, thanked supporters for their prayers at a news conference in Atlanta. Nancy Writebol, 59, was discharged on Tuesday.
The two were brought to the US for treatment three weeks ago.
The outbreak has killed more than 1,300 people in West Africa, with many of the deaths occurring in Liberia.

Keshi dumps Eagles ?

Former Super Eagles Head Coach, Stephen Keshi has ended his romance with the team following the failure of the crisis ridden Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to improve on his first contract.
Keshi’s contract expired after the team sojourn at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil ended with a 2-0 loss to France in the second round.
After the tournament, Keshi and the NFF are yet to reach an agreement for him to continue coaching the Super Eagles.
The coach disclosed on brilafm on Wednesday that there was no way he would accept the offer the football house offered him.

National Conference report will not be wasted, Jonathan assures Nigerians

President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday assured Nigerians that his administration would implement the recommendations of the 2014 National Conference, saying its report and delegates’ efforts would not be wasted.
Jonathan said at the ceremony to mark the submission of the National Conference Report in Abuja that government’s executive arm would immediately act on those aspects required of it.
He also said the other aspects of the recommendations would be sent to the Council of State and the National Assembly for incorporation into the country’s Constitution.
“ We shall send the relevant aspects of your recommendations to the Council of State and the National Assembly for incorporation into the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“On our part, we shall act on those aspects required of us in the executive. Let me reaffirm this: Nobody has a monopoly of knowledge.

I will join PDP when satan converts to Islam— El Rufai

Former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, has said that he will consider the option of defection to the People Democratic Party, PDP when satan repents and converts to Islam.
He made the assertion in reply to a question by one of his followers on twitter, stressing that he will hardly take the option. This is coming in the wake of the defection of his friend and former Presidential candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
El-Rufai is a former stalwart of the PDP and served the government during the Olusegun Obasanjo tenure.

Breaking News: Fire engulfs NFF’s office in Abuja

The flames are said to have started from a spark in the accountant’s office which quickly spread through the building before it was eventually brought under control by fire service

A strange fire incident erupted at the office of the Nigeria Football Federation in Abuja on Wednesday morning that has destroyed several offices in the building.
Eye witnesses claim that the flames started due to a spark in the office of the NFF”s accountant early in the day as work went on.
Goal learnt that the flames spread through to the office of the general secretary and the IT office.
By the time of filing this report, firemen had brought the flames under control.

Luis Suarez has promised Barcelona fans he will never bite another player, as he was officially unveiled by the club on Tuesday.

The Uruguay striker had been in limbo since FIFA imposed a four-month ban from all football-related activity after his infamous bite on Italy's Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup.
Suarez, who cannot feature for Barcelona in a competitive match until October 26, admitted he is also seeking professional help to avoid any further lengthy sanctions.
"The dream of playing for Barca comes from many years ago, as a kid. Everyone knows my relationship with family living here," he said.

"My ban is what it is and we have to accept it. I have apologised and I've been talking to professionals in order to deal with it. I say to all the fans do not worry about that. I won't be doing that anymore."

Iraqi and Kurdish forces retake Mosul dam

Kurdish peshmerga forces backed by American fighter jets recaptured Iraq's largest dam from the Islamic State on Monday, in what US President Barack Obama called a "major step forward" in the fight against the jihadists.

Local forces seized control of the dam after dismantling a complicated network of land mines and booby traps lain by the Islamic State fighters, who had themselves fled the area earlier in the day after a sortie of airstrikes by American F-18 fighter jets.

Speaking at the White House, Mr Obama reiterated the strategic military importance of seizing the dam on the Tigris River, warning that if it had had been breached it could have had "catastrophic consequences" and "endangered American Embassy personnel in Baghdad".

This was confirmed when a political associate, Alhaji Hamidu Mahmud, picked up the Expression of Interest and Nomination Form on Ribadu’s behalf.
Mahmud said:
 “Yes, we have applied. The framers of the PDP Constitution didn’t insert a waiver clause in anticipation of Ribadu.
“ He is expected to enjoy it and we are awaiting the directive of the PDP’s National Working Committee (NWC).”
There are now a total of 7 aspirants for the Adamawa gubernatorial seat including Acting Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintri, former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Aliyu Idi Hong, former Special Adviser on Political Matters to the President, Ahmed Gulak and  Awwal Tukur, the son of former PDP Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
