“I imagined the lies the valedictorian was telling them right now. About the exciting future that lies ahead. I wish she'd tell them the truth: Half of you have gone as far in life as you're ever going to. Look around. It's all downhill from here. The rest of us will go a bit further, a steady job, a trip to Hawaii, or a move to Phoenix, Arizona, but out of fifteen hundred how many will do anything truly worthwhile, write a play, paint a painting that will hang in a gallery, find a cure for herpes? Two of us, maybe three? And how many will find true love? About the same. And enlightenment? Maybe one. The rest of us will make compromises, find excuses, someone or something to blame, and hold that over our hearts like a pendant on a chain.

Basketmouth’s grass to grace story
Once in a while, our entertainers reveal the other side of their lives, be it emotional or spiritual. And so, popular comedian, Bright Okpocha, a.k.a Basketmouth, earlier in the week took to his Instagram page to share his grass to grace story.
This happened days after he signed the dotted lines to become a brand ambassador for Malta Guinness.
According to him, “I really was just that boy down the road with nothing more than a big dream and a bigger God .God raised men to favour me, gave me talent that is making way for me and bringing me before kings. When I look back, I can’t tell how I got here but one thing I want to say is that every single person that has bought a CD with my face on the cover, attended my concert, cheered me up, laughed at my jokes, and taken a selfie with me, you all live in my heart. I wish I knew every name or could remember every face. You made me, and I’m sincerely grateful.”

Must Read: Did You Caused It? By Olumayowa Fayose
If find this absolutely interesting and decided to share with my esteemed readers.
Consider a situation: You're eating breakfast with your family. Your daughter knocks over a cup of coffee onto your business shirt. You harshly scold your daughter for knocking the coffee cup over. She breaks down in tears. After scolding her, you turn to your wife and criticize her for placing the cup to close to the edge of the table. A short verbal battle follows. You storm upstairs and change your shirt. Back downstairs you find your daughter has been too busy crying to finish breakfast and get ready for school. She misses the bus. Your wife must leave immediately for work. You rush to the car and drive your daughter to school. Because you are late, you drive 80 km an hour in a 60 kmph speed limit. After a 15 minute delay and throwing Rs.500 (traffic fine) away, you arrived at school. Your daughter runs to the building without saying good-bye. After arriving at the office 20 minutes late, you find you forgot your briefcase. Your day has started terrible. As it continues, it seems to get worse and worse. You look forward to going home. When you arrive home you find a small wedge in your relationship with your wife and daughter. Why? Because of how you reacted in the morning.
Why did you have a bad day?
A) Did the coffee cause it?
B) Did your daughter cause it?
C) Did the policeman cause it?
D) Did you cause it?
The answer is D.
You had no control over what happened with the coffee. How you reacted in those 5 seconds is what caused your bad day. Here is what could have and should have happened. Coffee splashes over you. Your daughter is about to cry.You gently say "It's OK honey, you just need to be more careful next time". Grabbing a towel you rush upstairs. After grabbing a new shirt and your briefcase. You come back down in time look through the window and see your child getting on the bus. She turns and waves. You and your wife kiss before you both go to work. You arrive 5 minutes early and cheerfully greet the staff. Your boss comments on how good a day you are having. Notice the difference. Two different scenarios. Both started the same. Both ended different. Why? Because of how you REACTED. You really do not have any control over 10% of what happens. The other 90% is determined by your reaction.
Here are some ways to apply the 90/10 secret:
If someone says something negative about you, do not be a sponge. Let the attack roll off like water on glass. You don't have to let the negative comment affect you! React properly and it will not ruin your day. A wrong reaction could result in losing a friend, being fired, getting stressed out, etc.
How do you react if someone cuts you off in traffic? Do you lose your temper? Pound the steering wheel till it fall off? Do you curse? Does your blood pressure skyrocket? Do you try and bump them? WHO CARES if you arrive ten seconds later at work? Why let the blue car ruin your drive.
Remember the 90-10 principle, and do not worry about it! You are told you lost your job. Why lose sleep or get irritated? It will work out. Use your worrying" energy and time into finding another job.The plane is late. It is going to mangle your schedule for the day. Why take out your frustration on the flight attendant? She has no control over what is going on. Use your time to study, get to know the other passengers, etc. Why get stressed out? It will just make things worse. Now you know the 90-10 secret. Apply it and you will be amazed at the results."

Tuface Idibia Breaks Silence On The Dammy Krane And Wizkid Fight
Legendary singer, Tuface Idibia, has finally spoken about the Dammy Krane and Wizkid fight at club Quilox on January 15, 2016.
Tuface, who was recently at a radio interview on Wazobia FM to promote his new single, ‘Coded Tinz’, weighed in on the fight.
According to Tuface:
Mehn…I was really disappointed, you know, considering both of them na my people, and most importantly, Dammy and Wiz have been good friends; but I am glad they quickly put it all behind them and made peace.
In as much as it is very bad to jack another man’s property, it is also your responsibility to protect your property.
Recall Dammy Krane had gone on social media to accuse Wizkid of stealing his ‘Shit,’ an accusation that eventually ended up in Wizkid, injuring Dammy Krane at the club.

Yahoo to decide next strategic steps after quarterly earnings: sources
Yahoo Inc (YHOO.O) will decide on its next strategic steps only after releasing quarterly earnings on Feb. 2, people familiar with the matter said, as the company continues to resist investor calls to explore a sale of its core Internet assets.
Yahoo wants to gauge shareholder reaction after presenting its strategic vision during the earnings conference call, one of the people said.
Yahoo this month rebuffed several potential buyers for its core Internet assets, including private equity firms, the three sources said this week. They declined to be identified because the deliberations are confidential.
Yahoo declined to comment.
Yahoo said last month it would pursue a tax-free spinoff of the core Internet business, which could take at least a year.
But investors are pressing for an outright sale, fearing that the business, which includes selling search and display ads on its news and sports sites and email service, could lose more value in the face of competition from Alphabet Inc's (GOOGL.O) Google and Facebook Inc (FB.O).

Researched 7 Health Benefits Of Alcohol
Getting wasted every weekend might not be the best thing for your physical or mental well-being, but moderate alcohol consumption may have some substantial health benefits. It should be noted that alcohol consumption and its benefits vary based on an individual's body makeup and type.
According to the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, "moderate alcohol consumption is defined as having up to one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men. This definition is referring to the amount consumed on any single day and is not intended as an average over several days."
Now, we've all heard the reasons why alcohol is bad for you, but what about the benefits? Here is our list of seven ways that drinking alcohol in moderation (when you're of the legal drinking age of course) might benefit your health.
1. It Can Lower Your Risk Of Cardiovascular Disease
The School of Public Health at Harvard University found that "moderate amounts of alcohol raises levels of high-density lipoprotein, HDL, or 'good' cholesterol and higher HDL levels are associated with greater protection against heart disease. Moderate alcohol consumption has also been linked with beneficial changes ranging from better sensitivity to insulin to improvements in factors that influence blood clotting....Such changes would tend to prevent the formation of small blood clots that can block arteries in the heart, neck, and brain, the ultimate cause of many heart attacks and the most common kind of stroke." This finding is applicable to both men and women who have not been previously diagnosed with any type of cardiovascular disease.
2. It Can Lengthen Your Life
Drinking occasionally could add a few years to your life. A study by the Catholic University of Campobasso reported that drinking less than four or two drinks per day for men and women respectively could reduce the risk of death by 18 percent, as reported by Reuters . "Little amounts, preferably during meals, this appears to be the right way (to drink alcohol)," said Dr. Giovanni de Gaetano of Catholic University, another author on the study. "This is another feature of the Mediterranean diet, where alcohol, wine above all, is the ideal partner of a dinner or lunch, but that's all: the rest of the day must be absolutely alcohol-free."
3. It Can Improve Your Libido
Contrary to prior beliefs, newer research has found that moderate drinking might actually protect against erectile dysfunction in the same way that drinking red wine might benefit heart disease. In a 2009 study published in the,
Journal of Sexual Medicine, researchers found that the chances of erectile dysfunction were reduced by 25 to 30 percent among alcohol drinkers. The lead researcher, Kew-Kim Chew, an epidemiologist at the University of West Australia, conducted the study with 1,770 Australian men. In his study, Chew cautiously noted that he and his team in no way are advising men to hit the bottle, and that further research is needed to accurately connect impotence and alcohol consumption.
4. It Helps Prevent Against the Common Cold
The Department of Psychology at Carnegie Mellon University found that while susceptibility to the common cold was increased by smoking, moderate alcohol consumption led to a decrease in common cold cases for nonsmokers. This study was conducted in 1993 with 391 adults. In 2002, according to the New York Times, Spanish researchers found that by drinking eight to 14 glasses of wine per week, particularly red wine, one could see a 60-percent reduction in the risk of developing a cold. The scientists suspected that this had something to do with the antioxidant properties of wine.
5. It Can Decrease Chances Of Developing Dementia
In a study that included more than 365,000 participants since 1977, as reported in the journal Neuropsychiatric Disease and Treatment, moderate drinkers were 23 percent less likely to develop cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. "Small amounts of alcohol might, in effect, make brain cells more fit. Alcohol in moderate amounts stresses cells and thus toughens them up to cope with major stresses down the road that could cause dementia," said Edward J. Neafsey, Ph.D., co-author of the study, as reported by Science Daily. "We don't recommend that nondrinkers start drinking," Neafsey said. "But moderate drinking — if it is truly moderate — can be beneficial."
6. It Can Reduce The Risk Of Gallstones
Drinking two units of alcohol per day can reduce the risk of gallstones by one-third, according to researchers at the University of East Anglia. The study found that those who reported consuming two UK units of alcohol per day had a one-third reduction in their risk of developing gallstones. "Researchers emphasized that their findings show the benefits of moderate alcohol intake but stress that excessive alcohol intake can cause health problems," according to the study.
7. Lowers The Chance Of Diabetes
Results of a Dutch study showed that healthy adults who drink one to two glasses per day have a decreased chance of developing type 2 diabetes, in comparison to those who don't drink at all. "The results of the investigation show that moderate alcohol consumption can play a part in a healthy lifestyle to help reduce the risk of developing diabetes type 2," researchers said in a statement to Reuters.

Quote Of The Day
“For, after all, you do grow up, you do outgrow your ideals, which turn to dust and ashes, which are shattered into fragments; and if you have no other life, you just have to build one up out of these fragments. And all the time your soul is craving and longing for something else. And in vain does the dreamer rummage about in his old dreams, raking them over as though they were a heap of cinders, looking in these cinders for some spark, however tiny, to fan it into a flame so as to warm his chilled blood by it and revive in it all that he held so dear before, all that touched his heart, that made his blood course through his veins, that drew tears from his eyes, and that so splendidly deceived him!"

Kemi Adeosun The Finance Minister Hints At Naira Devaluation
Nigeria's Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun, on Thursday in an article titled "Nigeria's Economy: The Road to Recovery" spoke about speculations concerning devaluing the Naira.
Nigeria's central bank has in recent times faced criticism for imposing a number of restrictions last year aimed at conserving foreign exchange reserves. It said January foreign reserves had fallen to around $28 billion, compared with $37 billion in June 2014.
The naira's slump has prompted speculation that the currency may have to be formally devalued soon.
"The contentious issue of the exchange rate policy that will complement the fiscal policy of this administration will be a product of determining the real equilibrium exchange rate path of the naira," wrote Adeosun.
"The finance ministry expects that the monetary policy authorities will be in a position to determine the steps required to put the currency in equilibrium after considering a number of variables," she added.

We’ll eradicate Lassa fever by April, says FG
The Federal Government has declared that by April this year, Lassa fever will “become history.”
The government, which expressed optimism that the disease would be eradicated in April, also confirmed that it had placed the family that was visited by a victim in the Kubwa community of Abuja and an official of the Kubwa hospital, where he was treated, under surveillance.
The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said this in an interview with The PUNCH in Abuja, on Wednesday.
According to him, no patient would be allowed to visit the hospital where the victim had been admitted before he was taken to the National Hospital, Abuja, because efforts were afoot to sanitise the hospital.
The victim, a newly-wed 33-year-old man, lived in Jos, Plateau State, but came to see a family member in Kubwa because of his illness.
He, however, died within 24 hours of being admitted into the National Hospital from the Kubwa-based hospital.
The minister said, “We want to assure Nigerians that Lassa fever will soon become a thing of the past. It will become history in Nigeria. Ordinarily, Lassa fever will be eradicated from Nigeria in April. But if we do nothing, it will come back by August. So, we will make sure that we work all-year round to make sure that there is no resurgence in August.
“Our target is to eradicate it in April. Even if we have one or two cases, we will treat them early because all our antennae will be out to treat any case,” he stated.
Adewole added, “Not just the families that the patient visited in Kubwa but also those who treated him (have been placed under surveillance). We are working on that, we don’t want to frighten anybody. But I can assure you that our officials are all over the place to make sure that we place them under surveillance. It is all in their interest, not that we want to frighten them.”
Asked if there were plans to shut down the whole of the hospital, the minister said, “When you say shut down, we don’t want to physically shut down the place. But when the hospital is under surveillance, no patient will be allowed to go there until we declare the place safe and that is the situation in the Kubwa hospital.”
The minister added that the ward in the National Hospital where the patient was admitted and the mortuary where he was kept had also been decontaminated.
Meanwhile, the authorities of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex, Ile-Ife, said on Wednesday that a laboratory test had confirmed that a resident doctor of the hospital had died of Lassa fever.
The chairman of a committee set up by the OAUTHC on Lassa fever, Prof. Adedeji Onayade, said this while speaking to one of our correspondents on the telephone.
He said the result of the first test carried out on the deceased tested positive.
Onayade said, “We have a report which was positive. We were supposed to do two tests but the patient was dying when we took the first sample. We can’t do the second test now. So, we can say it is 50 per cent but we are going ahead to take necessary steps. We have informed all those who should know.
“There is no need to panic, Lassa fever is treatable and we are set to ensure that the situation is contained effectively.”
He said the hospital was on top of the situation, stressing that there was no need for anybody to panic.

Quote Of The Day
“Critics who treat 'adult' as a term of approval, instead of as a merely descriptive term, cannot be adult themselves. To be concerned about being grown up, to admire the grown up because it is grown up, to blush at the suspicion of being childish; these things are the marks of childhood and adolescence. And in childhood and adolescence they are, in moderation, healthy symptoms. Young things ought to want to grow. But to carry on into middle life or even into early manhood this concern about being adult is a mark of really arrested development. When I was ten, I read fairy tales in secret and would have been ashamed if I had been found doing so. Now that I am fifty I read them openly. When I became a man I put away childish things, including the fear of childishness and the desire to be very grown up".

Must Read: How Make Use Of 100% OF Your Brain
Recently, I saw the movie Lucy starring Scarlett Johansson and Morgan Freeman. If you’re planning on watching it and don’t want me to spoil it for you, then skip the next paragraph. (In my opinion, you can find plenty of better ways to spend 89 minutes.)
The general story is that a college student studying abroad (Johansson) gets abducted by a gang in Taipei and is forced to carry a bag of drugs that they implant in her abdomen. When the bag starts leaking its contents, CPH4 (based on a real molecule that pregnant woman produce which the movie likens to an “atomic bomb for a fetus”), the drug triggers rampant production of new connections between neurons giving Lucy access to the 90 percent of her brain that supposedly most of us never use.
The explosive brain growth makes her superhuman, and levitation, time travel, mind reading, learning Chinese in an instant, mentally controlling electronics, altering and generating new body parts, as well as high speed car chases, and fight-to-the-death scenes follow.
Lucy is based on a lie
The director, Luc Besson, knew the idea that we only use 10% of our brain power was wrong, but went with it anyway. Hey, it IS science fiction. I get it, but the problem is that too many people accept this brain myth as a fact. According to a TED-Ed Animation, two thirds of the public and nearly half of all science teachers still mistakenly believe this nonsense.
There’s absolutely no truth to the idea that we only use 10% of our neural matter.
The Battle In Your Brain
It’s true that increased connectivity between neurons is associated with greater ability. Studies have shown that musicians, who play stringed instruments, have larger areas of their brains dedicated to their active hands. Brain scans of London taxi drivers have revealed that the more years a driver has on the job correlates to a larger portion of their brain being recruited to store spatial information.
These findings demonstrate Hebb’s law: neurons that fire together wire together and neuroplasticity, the ability of the brain to change its physical structure and function based on repeated experience, behavior, and thoughts. In the blog, The Battle In Your Brain, I write:
“
Every minute of every day there’s a battle going on in your brain — a battle for cortical real estate. Your experiences, behaviours, emotions, and even your thoughts are constantly, literally changing and shaping your brain.
You have a use or lose it brain. Any unused connections go dormant to free up resources needed to strengthen those connections that are most often used. Neuroplasticity is competitive, and functioning areas of the brain not receiving any stimuli will be quickly taken over. In experiments where participants were blindfolded, their visual cortices started reorganising themselves to process sound in just two days!
You Already Use 100% Of Your Brain
Brain scans show activity coursing through your entire brain all the time, even at rest and during sleep. Not all 86 billion neurons are firing at once, of course, but they do exist in a constant state of resting potential, electrically charged, ready to act when needed.

DADDY, ITS UNFORTUNATE YOU ARE DYING WITHOUT A DIME
I believe I need to share this and Please READ to the end
At the point of death a man, Bakare Ologbenla, called his children and after praying for them, he advised them to follow his footsteps so that they can have peace of mind in all that they do.
The youngest child, Folasade, a female, looked at others and yelled, DADDY, ITS UNFORTUNATE YOU ARE DYING WITHOUT A DIME IN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT, PERSONALLY, I CAN'T EMULATE YOU. OTHER FATHER'S THAT YOU TAG AS BEING CORRUPT, THIEF OF PUBLIC FUNDS LEFT HOUSES AND PROPERTIES FOR THEIR CHILDREN; EVEN THIS HOUSE WE LIVE IN IS A RENTED APARTMENT, SORRY, I CAN'T EMULATE YOU, JUST GO, LETS CHART OUR OWN COURSE, LETS PADDLE OUR OWN CANOE. Few moments later, their father gave up the ghost.
Three years later, Folasade went for interview in a multinational company. The interview panel already penciled down a candidate for the highly covetted post but wanted to comlete the formality of interviewing all applicants on the list. As soon as Folasade sat before the interview panel, the Chairman of the committee asked, "Which Ologbenla is yours" and the Folasade replied, "I am Folasade Ologbenla. My dad Bakare Ologbenla is now late he died a poor man... then the Chairman cuts in, O MY GOD, YOU ARE BAKARE OLOGBENLA'S DAUGHTER? He turned to other members and said THIS BAKARE MAN WAS THE ONE THAT SIGNED MY MEMBERSHIP FORM INTO THE INSTITUTE OF CHARTERED ADMINISTRATORS AND HIS RECOMMENDATION EARNED ME WHERE I AM TODAY. HE DID ALL THESE FREE. I DONT EVEN KNOW HIS ADDRESS, HE NEVER KNEW ME FROM ADAMS, HE JUST DID IT FOR ME. He turned to Folasade, I HAVE NO QUESTION FOR YOU, CONSIDER YOURSELF AS HAVEN GOTTEN THIS JOB, RESUME TOMORROW, YOUR LETTER WILL BE WAITING FOR YOU.
Folasade Ologbenla became the corporate affairs manager of the company with two cars, one official ad one for private use, attached to the office, with a duplex and two drivers and a salary of N500,000 per month excluding allowances and other Esta-code when she travel outside Nigeria.
After two years of working in the company, the Group Managing Director of the company came from America to announce his intention to resign and needed a replacement. A personality with high integrity was sought after, again the company's Consultant nominated Folasade Ologbenla.
In an interview, I asked her the secret of her success and the sudden sky rocketing profile and in tears, she replied, MY DADDY PAVED THESE WAYS FOR ME. IT WAS AFTER HE DIED THAT I KNOW THAT HE WAS FINANCIALLY POOR BUT STINKINGLY RICH IN INTEGRITY, DISCIPLINE AND HONESTY. I asked again, why she is weeping since she is no longer a kid as to miss her dad still after a long time. She replied, AT THE POINT OF DEATH, I INSULTED MY DAD FOR BEING A HONEST MAN OF INTEGRITY. I HOPE HE WILL FORGIVE ME IN HIS GRAVE NOW. I DIDN'T WORK FOR ALL THESE, HE DID IT FOR ME TO JUST WALK IN.
So finally i asked, WILL YOU FOLLOW YOUR FATHERS FOOT STEPS AS HE REQUESTED? And her simple answer is I NOW ADORE THE MAN, I HAVE A BIG PICTURE OF HIS IN MY LIVING ROOM AND AT THE ENTRANCE OF MY HOUSE. HE DESERVES WHATEVER I HAVE AFTER GOD.
Are you like Folasade Ologbenla, it pays to build name, the reward doesn't come quickly but it will come however long it may take and it lasts longer.
INTEGRITY, DISCIPLINE, SELF CONTROL AND FEAR OF GOD MAKES MAN WEALTHY, NOT THE FAT BANK ACCOUNT. Live a good heritage for your children, I am building a good name for my children, not a fat bank account.

If You Are Sure Of Your Claim Kindly Name The Looters; Fayose Tells Lai Mohammed
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has challenged the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed to make public names of the 15 former governor and 55 Nigerians that he claimed stole N1.34 trillion between 2006 and 2013 or keep his mouth shut permanently. He said; “The reality is that the All Progressives Congress (APC) Federal Government has destroyed the economy within eight months in power and rather than look for solutions to the problems facing Nigeria, Lai Mohammed and his cohorts are branding bogus figures about stolen money just to cover up their lack of solution to the country’s economic problems.”
The governor, who also described as disgraceful, bringing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Publicity Secretary, Olisa Metuh to court in handcuff, said; “Even the masterminds of Mandala and Nyanya bomb blasts, Kabiru Sokoto and Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche were not handcuffed when they were arraigned in court.”
In a release issued by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said it was funny that close to one year after it won the presidential election, the President Mohammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) federal government was still operating as if it was campaigning for votes.
The governor said; “They are turning governance to Nollywood, such that when one movie is about to end, they release another one. As it appears that the $2.1 billion arms deal movie is getting to an end, Lai Mohammed introduced another movie titled; N1.34 trillion loot. “Unfortunately for them this time around, Nigerians have become tired of watching the Federal Government movies, they now want reality. Nigerians are now aware of the scam in the $2.1 billion arms deal movie having seen that the amount those already charged to court were charged with is not more than N10 billion and $2.1 billion is over N600 billion.
“Therefore, Lai Mohammed must either tell Nigerians details of the 15 former governors and 55 people that he claimed stole N1.34 trillion, where the stolen money is kept and bring back the money or apologise to Nigerians for lying.” While describing the persistent claim by the federal government that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) destroyed Nigeria for 16 years as hypocritical, Governor Fayose said Nigerians must begin to ask which party majority of those presently ruling the country under the APC government were between 1999 and 2014.
“Majority of those who ran the Federal Government between 1999 and 2003 under the PDP are in the APC government today. President, vice president, ministers, governors, senators and House of Reps members who were part of the PDP government are now in APC. Yet, APC keeps telling Nigerians that PDP ruined the country. This hypocrisy must stop,” he said.
The governor, who insisted that due process of the law must be followed in fighting corruption, noted that disobedience to court orders itself is a criminal offence that is more grievous than corruption. He said no amount of harassment and intimidation will silence opposition in the country, saying President Buhari and his men should rather get used to the reality that opposition must exist in a democracy.

PMB Warned Niger Delta militants, says defeating them won’t be tough
President Muhammadu Buhari has vowed to deal decisively with the seeming resurgence of oil theft, vandalism of pipelines and insecurity in the Niger Delta.
Declaring that the Nigerian Armed Forces had already dealt “deadly blows” on Boko Haram, Mr. Buhari said the activities of oil thieves and vandals would soon be brought to an end, according to a statement by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Tuesday.
“The oil thieves and abductors are a less problematic target. We will re-organise and deal with them,” he was quoted as saying.
Speaking Tuesday in Abu Dhabi, the president warned telecommunication companies operating in Nigeria not to place their desire for huge profits above the security needs of the country.
Speaking at an interactive forum with members of the Nigerian Community in Abu Dhabi, President Buhari said the war against terrorism can only be won with the collective effort and commitment of everyone.
Remarking that the registration of all mobile phone users without exception will help the security agencies to pre-empt terrorist attacks, the president said telecommunication companies operating in Nigeria must adhere to the rules and guidelines of the Nigerian Communications Commission in this regard.
President Buhari assured Nigerians at the session that his administration’s war against corruption will continue to be vigorously pursued.
The president pledged that more persons who have abused the public trust will be exposed and brought to justice soon, adding that his government was committed to re-establishing former standards of accountability and probity in the management of public funds which were jettisoned under past administrations.
The president appealed for more patience and understanding from Nigerians as his administration takes steps to safeguard the economy from the shock of falling oil prices.
“In the face of our new economic reality of dwindling oil prices, there are a number of things we can really do without to preserve our economy.
“We must develop the capacity to feed ourselves and we should be spending our resources on real development projects, not luxuries,” he said.

FG confirms 212 cases Of Lassa Fever in 17 states
*Warns against conspiracy of silence among states.
The Federal Government has confirmed 212 suspected cases of Lassa Fever in 64 Local government areas across 17 states in the country, even as it warned against a conspiracy of silence among the states of the federation.
The Minister of Health, Prof. Issac Adewole, who disclosed this, yesterday, in Abuja at the Emergency National Council on Health meeting with state Commissioners of Health and other stake- holders in the health sector, said the current out-break was a national embarrassment.

Adewole, who debunked rumours in some quarters that the disease was a “gimmick to get money from the government, said objective of the meeting, was to facilitate discussion on control of the ongoing disease outbreak; to develop strategies of prevention and management of all cases in Nigeria, among others.
He said: “There is a high level of denial and a conspiracy of silence in some of our states. I think people take delight in saying we have no case and to me that is not the issue.
“In fact, if you are able to pick a suspicious cases, to me that is the issue because that goes to tell us that the surveillance system is at work.
“We also want to alert all health professionals in the country that they should report any case. I have described the outbreak as a national embarrassment. We can manage embarrassment, but when we allow another outbreak to occur in August this year, it will become a national shame to all of us. One of the things we will do to prevent us from dragging this nation into shame is to stamp out Lassa Fever.”
“Healthcare managers should not deceive their political leaders that all is well. All states should consider themselves at risk.”
He noted that 17 states have been affected.
“It has affected 64 local governments across the country and we have been able to pick 212 suspected cases. It dates back from August last year, not just this year. It is better to over-count suspected cases than to under-count.
“The real hot spots are Niger, Bauchi, Taraba, Kano, Edo, Nasarawa, Plateau and Rivers, but for us to be honest with ourselves, all states should consider themselves at risk and please, put up measures to contain, prevent and reassure the community that we are on top of the situation,” he asserted.
Fear grips OAUTHC workers as doctor dies
*It’s false alarm — Hospital Management
There was panic among workers of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital, OAUTHC, Ile-Ife, Osun State, yesterday, following the death of a resident doctor after exhibiting suspected Lassa Fever symptoms.
The incident, fuelled by rumours that the Lassa virus may have spread from neighbouring Ekiti State, led to other medical personnel as well as patients at the Emergency Unit of the hospital, fleeing the scene.
An atmosphere of fear had enveloped the Obafemi Awolowo University community as news of the doctor’s demise filtered around.
Vanguard gathered from sources close to the hospital that the late doctor died after vomiting blood within the hospital premises.
A colleague of the deceased, who pleaded anonymity, revealed that he had visited Ekiti State before arriving Ile-Ife, Monday.
But the hospital authorities debunked insinuations that the doctor died from Lassa Fever.
In a statement confirming the death, the Chairman, OAUTHC, Professor Adedeji Onayade, said the fact that the doctor bled to death could not be taken to mean he died of Lassa Fever.
Onayade said blood samples of the late doctor had been obtained and sent for screening and confirmation.
And that until the result was confirmed positive, it could not be said that the hospital recorded a case of Lassa Fever.
Ekiti takes steps to arrest spread
The Ekiti State government has commenced efforts to check the spread of the disease, with a directive to principals of secondary schools with boarding facilities to monitor food in-take of students, even as the18-year old student of the School of Nursing, Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti, reported to have contracted the infection, Monday, is recovering.
The step, it was gathered, followed Monday’s announcement by the state Health Commissioner, Dr. Ojo Olurotimi that the state had recorded first case of Lassa Fever.
The state Commissioner for Education, Mr. Jide Egunjobi said the directive to schools had become necessary to prevent spread of the disease among students living in schools.
He told newsmen that the principals had also been told to pay particular attention to state of sanitation in the schools without delay.
He said the students on the other hand have also been advised to compliment government efforts by maintaining personal hygiene during and after school hours, especially when they are in the dormitories.
Also, the ministries of Information, Health and Environment have begun a massive sensitization exercise on the state owned electronic media on the lassa outbreak.

Propaganda and the Politics of Perception By Michael Carmichael
Learning is a great process in achieving excellence. War propaganda glorifies military indoctrination as the highest form of patriotism while simultaneously demonizing the enemies of the state.
Adolf Hitler realized the power of propaganda to mould and shape public opinion. Hitler wrote a highly informed essay on the powers of propaganda in his political autobiography, Mein Kampf.
Modern governments employ propaganda to incite public outcries for war in order to advance their agendas in foreign policy.
War propaganda is nothing new. The dynastic Egyptians created monumental sculptures that glorified Pharaoh as a conqueror who personally executed – frequently by fracturing their sculls with a mace – hundreds of the enemies of his state. Thus, the public glorification of war and its most heinous crimes has been with us for thousands of years.
War propaganda is abundantly evident in the fabric of our culture, and it presents no symptoms of weakness or dissipation. Quite the opposite is true. The latest film by Clint Eastwood, Flags of our Fathers, is little more than war propaganda that glorifies American military achievements in the context of a racial enemy – the Japanese. Sadly, Clint Eastwood has a long history of manufacturing films that are nothing more than pulpish propaganda: Where Eagles Dare; Heartbreak Ridge, Firefox and many other glorifications of violence and the principle, “Might makes right.”
While the primary purpose of war propaganda is to manufacture public commitment to wars and their inevitable crimes, in George Bush’s America psychological warfare aimed directly at the American public is designed to manufacture the political platform to launch a perpetual state of war that will produce a totalitarian regime headed by a Commander-in-Chief who is nothing more than a military dictator.

How to tackle the world's biggest killer; Joe Biden
Three months ago, I called for a “moonshot” to cure cancer.
Now the President has tasked me with leading a new, national mission to get this done.
It’s personal for me. But it’s also personal for nearly every American, and millions of people around the world. We all know someone who has had cancer, or is fighting to beat it. They’re our family, friends, and co-workers.
If this disease has touched your life, I want to hear your story.
Today, cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide. And that’s only expected to increase in the coming decades — unless we make more progress today.
I know we can.
From my own personal experience, I’ve learned that research and therapies are on the cusp of incredible breakthroughs. Just in the past four years, we’ve seen amazing advancements. And this is an inflection point.
Over the course of the past few months, I’ve met with nearly 200 of the world’s top cancer physicians, researchers, and philanthropists.

Premium Times: Dasuki Paid Okupe's Companies to Hack 'Unfriendly' Sites
Information reaching is that Former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, reportedly paid companies linked to Doyin Okupe, a former media aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, at least N1.6 billion to hack ‘unfriendly’ websites.
Two companies linked to Doyin Okupe, a former media aide to President Goodluck Jonathan, got at least N1.6 billion off the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, in three shady cyber security contracts, PREMIUM TIMES investigations have shown.
One of the contracts had instructions to hunt down unfriendly media websites with Distributed Denial of Service attacks.
It was a project conceived to shut down online media platforms perceived as friendly to Buhari or critical of Mr. Jonathan ahead of the 2015 election.
The other was a contract to intercept all optic fibre cables landing in Nigeria. The third was a passive mass and target GSM interception that had the ability to decrypt ciphers and operate undetected. Mr. Okupe, a former Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs to Mr, Jonathan, has so far evaded scrutiny in the ongoing arms contracting scandal where the former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, is charged for allegedly mismanaging funds meant for the fight against Boko Haram in Nigeria’s northeast region.

‘Dwindling economy shows Buhari not prepared to serve Nigerians’
A Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, chieftain in Ebonyi State, Mr. Abia Onyike, yesterday, stressed that the constant blame being heaped on former President Goodluck Jonathan over the state of economy by the Federal Government was a reflection of its unpreparedness to provide quality services to Nigerians.
President Muhammadu Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari
Briefing newsmen in Abakaliki on the state of nation, Onyike stated that the Buhari-led administration was yet to make any new or original impact on the economy of the nation, apart from buck-passing and uncoordinated anti-corruption crusade.
According to him, the Federal Government has compounded its credibility problem by disobeying court orders, which equally portrayed it as “anarchic and syndicalist.”
He called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately set up a non-partisan economic recovery team made up of astute economic and financial wizards with the mandate to rescue the country from imminent economic retrogression.
“All hands must be on deck. The APC government should start providing qualitative governance and take steps to reduce political tension. The uncoordinated anti-corruption crusade is becoming controversial and Nigerians are getting fed up with the politics of buck-passing.
“The energy and time wasted in blaming past administrations and witch-hunting political opponents would have been used to focus on governance. This government does not appear prepared to provide in-depth services to the people.
“The exchange rate of the naira is now N305 to one dollar. This is the worst ever in Nigerian history. Mass poverty is enveloping the nation. Something has to be done to checkmate the rapid economic depression.
“President Buhari can set up a bi-partisan economic recovery team made up of astute economic and financial wizards to rescue Nigeria from economic retrogression.”
On the issue of Biafran agitation, the PDP chieftain faulted former President Olusegun obasanjo’s description of Biafra as ‘dead’ adding that the resurgence of the Biafran idea was a response to the politics of Islamic state militants who are threatening to islamize the country.
“Though the former President was right in blaming the Biafran agitation on frustration and marginalisation, he got it wrong by claiming that the Biafran idea was dead.
“Recall that 12 Northern states adopted sharia law in Obasanjo’s first tenure as President (1999-2003). Recall also that the first major event of the 21st century was the bombing of the twin towers in New York. Islamic terrorism has grown in the world. In Africa, the story is no different.
“In Nigeria, the local franchise of global islamization is the Boko Haram. Obasanjo should first of all fight to see that the Islamization policy is dead before wishing Biafra dead because the resurgence of Biafra may be the result of the fear of Islamization and political persecution since the Igbos are the largest Christian block in the Nigerian federation.”

“IF I WIN, YOU ALL LEAVE” by Donald Trump
As the whole process for Presidential draw nearer. American Billionaire and Republican Presidential Front-runner, Donald Trump, has shot a subtle warning to the Nigerian Community in the United States, after he said all Nigerians would be made to leave the country “when he becomes President”.
He made the “threat” during a rally at Wichita, Kansas. According to Donald Trump, Nigerians ad Mexicans have taken all the jobs meant for honest hard working Americans.
“To Make America great again, we need to get rid of the Muslims, Mexicans and the Africans, especially the Nigerians. They take all our jobs, jobs meant for honest hard working Americans, and when we don’t give them the jobs, the Muslims blow us up”, Trump said.
“We need to get the Africans out. Not the blacks, the Africans. Especially the Nigerians. They’re everywhere. I went for a rally in Alaska and met just one African in the entire state. Where was he from? Nigeria! He’s in Alaska taking our jobs. They’re in Houston taking our jobs. Why can’t they stay in their own country? Why? I’ll tell you why. Because they are corrupt. Their Governments are so corrupt, they rob the people blind and bring it all here to spend. And their people run away and come down here and take our jobs! We can’t have that! If I become president, we’ll send them all home. We’ll build a wall at the Atlantic Shore. Then maybe we’ll re-colonize them because obviously they did not learn a damn thing from the British!”
His speech was met with raucous applause by the 10,000 strong predominantly Caucasian audience. What this portends for Nigeria in the event of the Trump victory is still unclear, but the Nigerian Ambassador to the US has so far allayed fears of all Nigerians living in the USA, although we gather he has secretly packed his bags and is set to move to Mexico or Canada if Trump becomes President.
I hope our American cousins have made adequate plans back home…..

Korede Bello begs school management to sit for upcoming exams
Everybody knows that Korede Bello is a student at Nigerian Institute of Journalism (NIJ) and It is no longer news that a lecturer had threatened to resign if the Mavin Records fast-rising act, is allowed to write the forthcoming examinations after failing to meet up with the compulsory 70% class attendance set by the school.
But what is news is that after the music act was informed of his ineligibility to take the exams he allegedly went to meet with top officials of the school to find a way out, using his star status as a leverage but it seems he has hit a stonewall as the lecturer on his case is hell-bent on making good his threats.
Report also has it that the singer came to school and was seen begging one of the school’s notable official to lean on the lecturer in question but Potpourri can tell you that his situation is not looking particularly good.

$2.1 arms scandal: I spent my money on Jonathan’s campaign — Anenih
A former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Tony Anenih, has given an insight into the controversial N260 million he received from the embattled former National Security Adviser (NSA), Colonel Sambo Dasuko (retd), during the Jonathan administration.
Chief-Tony-Anenih
Chief-Tony-Anenih
Sunday Vanguard learnt, at the weekend, that Anenih shed light on the money in a letter to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The money is the subject of a probe by the EFCC as part of the investigation into the $2.1 billion arms money Dasuki allegedly disbursed for purposes other than security.
A source at that anti-graft agency quoted the former BoT Chairman of the PDP as saying, in the letter, that the N260 million was a refund of the N400 million he disbursed, on the instruction of Jonathan to elder statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai; the National Chairman of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Chief Olu Falae; and the leader of the Accord Party, Alhaji Rashidi Ladoja, among others, for ‘special political assignments’ ahead of the 2015 polls.
The source added that Anenih claimed that he merely, on request, gave the former President his bank account details into which the refund should be made, and that he was not in the position to ask Jonathan how he was going to source money for the refund or through which office it would be made.
Falae and Ladoja have confirmed receiving N100 million each from the PDP leader while Yakassai took N63 million.
According to the EFCC source, Anenih explained that the N263 million he gave to the three men was N3 million in excess of the N260 million paid him, while he had outstanding balance of N180 million to collect from the former President.
“The PDP leader made it clear in the letter to the EFCC that he was not a beneficiary of the money and that he was only acting on the instruction of Jonathan to disburse it”, the source stated.
Other disbursements Anenih made on Jonathan’s instruction to bring the total to N400 million, according to the letter, include N25 million to a former deputy governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Muktari Shagari, and N35 million to a delegation of local government leaders from Katsina State.
Besides, Anenih was said to have indicated in the letter that, on the instruction of the former President, the BoT of the PDP then, under his chair, embarked on a nationwide reconciliation tour and that the money he spent on hiring private jet during the tour, among other responses, was also not refunded to him.
The PDP leader pointed out that, in spite of his commitment to stabilising the party and its leadership and to ensure post-election peace, he was pressurized to resign as BoT chair on trumped-up charges of anti-party activities and alleged overbearing influence.
