PDP Not Plotting To Postpone Elections- Fani Kayode

The director of media and publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Organisation, Femi Fani-Kayode has said the president has no intention of postponing the forthcoming elections, and the president and his party are fully ready for the elections. He also asked APC to address more serious issues like what the DSS are pointing at them instead of dwelling on lies. Below is what Mr Fani said in a statement in Abuja made available to the press. Puppy Worth Over N4m Snatched In Surrey, United Kingdom: Photo

Not a good time at all as Police are still searching for a rare bulldog puppy worth £16,000 (over N4,000,000) which was snatched from its breeder's home.

 

A man interested in buying the pup ran away with the eight-week-old rare lilac bulldog from a property in Tadworth, Surrey, in October, assaulting a relative of the breeder in the process.

Five men have been arrested in connection with the theft but have been released on bail. Police say they are still looking for the puppy and urged citizens to be at alert in case they notice their neighbour has a new pet.

Reps to probe alleged planned hacking of DSS database

ABUJA—APPARENTLY disturbed by the allegation made by the Department of State Services, DSS, that the All Progressives Congress, APC had planned to hack into the data base of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC,  the House of Representatives yesterday resolved to probe the matter so as to unravel the matter.
Towards this, the House resolved that it would set up high powered committee to investigate the allegation and report back to the House within two weeks.
This was sequel to a motion brought to the floor of the House under Matters of National Importance by the Deputy Majority Leader, Rep Leo Ogor, PDP, Isoko Fed Constituency.
His motion was entitled: ’The unauthorized and alleged hacking into the INEC Data Base.”
Ogor in his submission had argued that” the  INEC is vested by the Nigerian constitution with the responsibilities to carry out the functions of conducting elections into elective positions in the country.”
He said: ”The DSS allegations relating to the alleged plan to hack into the INEC data base is a very serious allegation”.
“And that the allegations coming at the heels of an election period calls for. Concern that should not be treated with levity.”

Ogor further that the INEC Data Base may contain highly sensitive data and if compromised could cast heinous aspersions on the integrity of the forth coming elections.
According to him, the House was convinced: that the voters registration information and data, habouring specific strategies and modalities on which INEC deployment of election plans and anchored may be in the data base.
At this stage, the Speaker of the House,  Aminu Tambuwal put the debate to a voice vote and it was unanimously adopted.
Also yesterday, the House asked INEC to allow Nigerians who had temporary voters cards and   their names were in the voters registration list vote.

In a motion entitled:”The use of Temporary Voters’ Card for elections and sponsored by the Minority Leader of the House, Rep Femi Gbajabiamila, APC, Surulere Federal Constituency, the House  noted that” for the purpose of the elections referred to above, INEC  had been issuing permanent voters’ cards to eligible voters in replacement of the temporary voters’ cards issued to Nigerians for about four years now.
He expressed concern that the general elections being just four weeks or 31 days from now, it is very unlikely that the commission will be able to distribute the permanent voters’ cards to all registered and eligible voters before the elections.
“If the current position of the commission (that only voters with the permanent voters’ cards are qualified to vote) is not addressed, many registered and eligible voters will be disenfranchised in the 2015 general elections to the detriment of the growth of democracy in Nigeria.
The House in plenary resolve that the commission should include in its election guidelines for the 2015 general elections a provision(s) allowing registered voters with the temporary voters card whose names are on record to vote during the 2015 general elections.
When put to voice vote by Tambuwal the ays carried the day.
Meantime, the House of Representatives also yesterday stepped down the 2015 Appropriation bill due to lack of enough copies for lawmakers to study.
House Majority Leader, Rep Mulikat Adeola-Akande, PDP, Ogbomosho/Orire Federal Constituency had explained to the presiding officer that the bill be stepped down till today “as lawmakers got few copies earlier and will need to study the document first.”

President’s ‘motor park touts’ reference to elder statesmen not unconnected

ABUJA — THERE were indications last night that the elaborate meeting on Monday geared towards ending the frosty relationship between President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo ended in fiasco.
Vanguard learnt from competent sources at the meeting that President Jonathan and other top leaders of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, who requested for the meeting with Obasanjo, felt disappointed with its outcome and may not push the idea of mending fences with the former leader again.
One of the sources, who was present at the meeting, told Vanguard that Obasanjo merely accepted to allow Jonathan and other PDP chieftains to visit him as a mark of respect to the office of the President and not to make peace with him.

According to the source, Obasanjo deliberately requested two prominent clergymen to be present as witnesses at the meeting to prove the point that it is Jonathan who actually caused disaffection between them by reneging on previous decisions they jointly reached.
It was learned that but for the respect Obasanjo has for the office which he once held, he would not have accepted to  host Jonathan because of his recent provocative utterances against prominent Nigerian statesmen, including him (Obasanjo).
Why the meeting flopped
The source said Obasanjo was irked by last Sunday’s statement in which Jonathan referred to  some  elder statesmen behaving as ‘motor park touts’, a classification, Obasanjo reportedly took in bad faith.
The source said that at the meeting, Obasanjo opened up to those present and the two clergy men he had invited to ask Jonathan whether he had been honest with him and those he had assured he would run for a single term, if they supported him to win the last election.
The source said: “It is true that Obasanjo invited the two clergymen to witness the meeting which he grudgingly accepted to host because of the respect he has for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He did not want to turn the president and his entourage down since they requested to see him in his house as part of their rally in the state.
“But the truth of the matter is that Baba has not shifted grounds on any issue since he feels that Jonathan has not been fair to him by not adhering to any of the previous agreements reached with him.
Motor park touts classification
“What really irked Baba is the reference by Jonathan to some Nigerian elder statesmen as behaving as ‘motor park touts’ a day before begging him to grant him audience in Abeokuta.
The man really feels insulted by such unfortunate outburst from the president of a country.
“There was no need to enter into any peace deal with Jonathan because similar deals done in the past only resulted in more attacks by him and his aides on Baba only for them to come begging for forgiveness once it is close to election.”
Obasanjo and Jonathan with members of the party’s Board of Trustees, BoT, met for about three hours in Abeokuta on Monday with a view to settling the differences between the two leaders and to seek his support for the president’s re-election, next month.
Obasanjo, who appears upset by the way Jonathan has so far run the country, has often taken to public fora to criticise him, including an open letter entitled “Before it is too late” and a critical book entitled “My Watch” which a court had barred from being circulated.

Jimi Agbaje: De-constructing an “Activist”

Anytime I think of Jimi Agbaje and his political trajectory, I marvel at the challenge of locating him in a functional context that can help in unlocking the complexity of his persona. No doubt, Agbaje carries the mien of a gentle­man, a sociable fine guy and an inscrutable individual with a persona that exudes mystery. This is where the confusion lies: When a man’s personality is wrapped in a mythical cul de sac, he automatically becomes a case study for character anal­ysis and his behavior a whirligig for theoretical interpretation. Ordinarily, this would have been an unnecessary exercise but for the fact that the man is seek­ing to be the governor of Lagos State, a strategic and the most populous state in Nigeria, it has become imperative to throw him into the public space for an engaging discourse. Since 2007, Agbaje has been featuring in the state’s gubernatorial contests. It is his democratic right to do so. No one can deny him this right.
First, let us discuss Agbaje the activist. Agbaje’s political career started in 1993 when he joined other angry citizens to protest the June 12 an­nulment. As a seasoned pharma­cist, he worked with other pro­fessionals like Pat Utomi, Billy Lawson, Hassan Odukale, Ashe Ighodalo and Tola Mobolurin. The agitation against the June 12 annulment was a national “col­labo” involving all segments of the society; the students, the ar­tisans, the civil servants, the pro­fessionals, the traders, the young, the old, the kids, the earthly hosts and even the heavenly hosts. All against one man called Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida.

But when the storm was over, some vanishing people among the elite in particular decided to use that epochal event to rebrand by calling themselves “activ­ists”, a title traditionally and un­derstandably hitherto used by journalists for only three people in the country namely Gani Fawehinmi, Beko Ransome-Kuti and Femi Falana (the last man standing). These three people were ruthlessly persecuted and crucified for having the cour­age to protest the tyranny of the military and for their pertinacious sacrifice to oppose government’s terrorism against its own people. So, when I hear Agbaje refer­ring to himself as an “activist”, I begin to wonder if this was not delusive self-glorification. It is a serious miscarriage of linguistic justice for him to equate himself with these three personages. In a piece I did some 16 years back titled: “Who is an activist?” I wrote inter alia, “While one is not saying that being shoved into jail or
detention was a comforting ex­perience or an interesting excur­sion but for God’s sake, when has detention become the only index of ideological commitment and conviction? My position is that it is not just enough to call yourself an activist because you were de­tained or jailed by Abacha whom, from empirical analysis and labo­ratory experimentation, was suf­fering from egregious lunacy and had an unprecedented fascination for savagery and debauchery”.

I wrote further: “These days every Tom, Dick and Harry likes to robe himself in the cassock of an activist and the surplice of a NADECO chieftain. What makes the entire scenario intrigu­ing and ridiculous is the fact that those who also embarked on bal­listic gyrations around Europe and America, and were busy doing international “fine bara” in the name of the struggle while many of us were roasting in Aba­cha’s hellish inferno, now have the temerity to parade themselves as activists and “NADECO abroad”. However, unfolding events have started exposing the fake NADECO abroad who on returning to Nigeria, began to fraternize with the remnants of the evil cabal. “(Sunday Con­cord, October 17, 1999, p.16).

I hope Agbaje was not calling himself an activist because he was the treasurer of Afenifere, a socio-political group formed and led by Pa Abraham Adesanya and co. to represent and protect the political interest of the Yoruba in the post-annulment and post-military power- sharing regime. How the position of ‘akapo’ now confers the toga of activism on our man is what I cannot under­stand.

When a politician who claims to be an activist or a progres­sive lacks a defining ideological prism, it creates the impression that the politician’s objective is how to secure an end without the slightest scruples for the means of securing that end. A man who started his political journey in the camp of the ‘activists’ or the ‘progressives’ and is about to end it in a Party that is threatened by national rejection and isolation deserves our sympathy as well as our contempt.

A politician whose politics is not inspired by any philosophi­cal thought; a politician whose politics is not influenced by any political order; a politician whose politics is bereft of principles and values; a politician whose politics is not ordered towards welfarism will end up becoming a misfit in government and may also end up disrupting the legacy of good governance already established by the three visionary leaders that earlier ruled the state.

When Lateef Jakande ruled Lagos state, he cloned a new political order architectured on populism. When Bola Tinubu led the state, he elevated gov­ernance, scaffolding and con­structing it on progressivism and when Fashola ran the state, he evolved a new social paradigm and political thought, anchoring governance on ‘ elitemassism’, an uncommon philosophy that rhapsodizes both the elite and the masses as beneficiaries of gov­ernment policies and programs. It is therefore not a conjecture that Akin Ambode who spent 27 years of his life as a civil servant in Lagos state, being a direct cul­tural descendant of this political lineage whose entire professional life-having worked under at least two of them-has been molded by the vision of these men, will be a better leader to be trusted with power.

Assuming but not conceding that Agbaje is a committed pro­gressive, it will surely be difficult for him to operate or function effectively in the PDP, a party whose philosophy is incompat­ible with his ideological belief. This was the same problem that Sir Michael Otedola faced when he was the governor of Lagos state. Baba Otedola was a philan­thropist and a welfarist par excel­lence but his party, the National Republican Convention (NRC) was nothing near this. Otedola was therefore constrained by structural fundamentals and ideo­logical impediments that frus­trated his welfarist programme for the state. With due respect to the dead, the NRC under Otedola left a zero-legacy in Lagos State.

Some analysts, including my friend Segun Ayobolu, have argued intensely that the ideolo­gies of the two dominant parties namely PDP and APC are con­ceptually not dissimilar. I want to dissociate myself from this general disquisition. Though one may argue that there are some theoretical lacunae in the APC manifesto, this mis-packaging is not sufficient to dismiss the con­ceptual objective of the party to guarantee the people of this coun­try a welfarist agenda that is be­ing pursued with vigor, commit­ment and zeal. What is so glaring is that even if the PDP presents a welfarist manifesto to the nation as its political creed, the failure of the party at all levels is a testa­ment to its conceptual dishonesty. It is this kind of incorrect analysis that has provided an alibi for fake progressives to seek shelter and hibernation in every party using this as an excuse to justify their defection from one party to the other.

Agbaje’s movement from Afenifere (not a political party) to AC, later to DPA and now to PDP has shown that he is a poli­tician seeking power without a doctrinal conviction about what to use the power for. One may therefore not be wrong to be­lieve that Agbaje only wants to become a governor for profile ornamentation and status con­solidation. When he defected from AC to DPA in 2007 because of the choice of BRF as the pre­ferred and favored candidate of the AC, some of us thought he would soon return to the progres­sives fold but his present status as the PDP gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State has foreclosed the possibility of an ideological re­treat. Defection is a reflection of political mercantilism and those who keep vending around po­litical parties are desperados that lack the temperament for politi­cal cooperation and tolerance as well as the moral capacity for competitive engagement. Defect­ing from a progressive party like APC to a
deficit-ridden party like PDP particularly one provoked by selection disagreement, attests to Agbaje’s lack of commitment to his political creed. A man who is ready to commit ideological suicide in order to secure power should never be trusted with the security of his citizens. When it was convenient for Agbaje to fraternize with Bode George and Ogunlewe in order to deal with Musiliu Obanikoro, he did so with frenetic jubilation. Again, when it became conveni­ent for Agbaje to reconcile with Obanikoro on the prompting of President Goodluck Jonathan, he did not hesitate to leave his two godfathers in the cold. Agbaje’s public reconciliation with Oban­ikoro gave Koro the last laugh over Bode George and Ogun­lewe who felt humiliated by this abandonment. How then can the electorate trust a politician who places political expediency above fraternal allegiance?

When people say Agbaje is a gentleman I never disagree be­cause I know he is. But I always ask them the question: is Ambode a thug? A young man who rose to the position of a state permanent secretary and Accountant-Gener­al in a very competitive civil ser­vice like the one in Lagos State based on a profile of performance that is uncharacteristically fault­less and flawless, should natural­ly be perceived as a hardworking gentleman that has focus, class and dignified image.

Besides, electoral contest is not determined by sentimental perception and garnished image laundering. Now that we have two gentlemen vying for the same seat, the one whose party provides a platform for the poor to enhance their material security should be rated better in terms of political value. The general good of the people should not be sacri­ficed on the altar of sentimental­ity. I need to warn strongly that transferring power from a pro­gressive lineage to the clan of the bandits entails an inherent danger of turning Lagos to a rent-seeking society where the bandits are des­perate to capture power so that specific revenue stream could be appropriated for private use thus guaranteeing their indulgence in eternal Epucurian revelry.

31 yrs after jailing Fela: My grouse with Buhari —Seun Kuti

As sure as the sun rises in the East and sets in the West, Seun Kuti will not vote for General Mohamadu Buhari as the 2015 general draws near.

Though the clamour for the military man’s return to power as a civilian president is high in Lagos State more than other South Western states, the last son of the legendary Fela Anikulapo Kuti has exclusively told this media that he has not quickly forgotten what his father suffered in the hands of General Muhammadu Buhari and the late Tunde Idiagbon when he was the former was the Military Head of State of Nigeria, and would therefore not vote for him.

Although, he was not categorical about voting for the incumbent, Goodluck Jonathan either, Seun said “Truth is that I have no reason to give my vote to any of the two contestants, but more especially Buhari because of the eternal emotional damage he caused the Kuti family, especially me,” he said.

Barely three years on earth, Buhari jailed the late Afrobeat King on currency trafficking charge in 1984 and Seun did not really get to know Fela, his father, till the controversial musician died. Seun lost his dad 10 years after and he was a little above 13 years when Fela died of HIV/AIDS in August 1997.

Seun, who recently arrived from a musical tour of Asia, said that rather than give his support to Jonathan or Buhari, “I will only urge Nigerians, especially her youths, to come out enmasse to elect the ruler of their choice so that Nigeria’s democracy will continue to grow. As for me though, I will never vote for Buhari because of what he did to my father. It is a personal grouse.

“Buhari denied me the chance of seeing my father in the early stage of my life. He arrested and detained Fela in Kirikiri for the same number of years I was growing up without a father, and even did not allow his family members to see him on a daily basis. He eventually jailed my father and I will always remember that. He jailed my innocent father on currency trafficking, but he is claiming to be a saint now.

MD picked for diiverting bank's over N3.8 bn loan

A Lagos businessman who allegedly diverted N3.8billion loan secured from an old generation bank has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Samuel Joseph, Managing Director of Vegefresh Company Limited, Rhema Doormart West Africa Limited, and Plywood and Chemicals Accessories was picked up this morning by operatives of the Commission in Lagos.

The suspect is alleged to have collected N3, 828,756,877.61 (Three Billion, Eight Hundred and Twenty Eight Million, Seven Hundred and Fifty Six Thousand, Eight Hundred Seventy Seven Naira, Sixty One Kobo) from the bank in tranches.

He allegedly collected the sum of N2, 000, 000, 000 (Two Billion Naira only) in February 2012 as loan through Vegefresh Company Limited ostensibly for the purpose of setting up a Tomato Processing Plant in Bauchi and Tomato Cannery in Badagry, Lagos, as well as Cassava factory in Ogun state.

'Send police and forensics, I've cut his throat': Chilling 999 call from sadistic teenager who groomed boy, 14, he met in online game then tied him up with duct tape and stabbed him to death

In a disturbingly calm phone call, Lewis Daynes (centre) tells a 999 operator to send 'police and a forensics team' to his home in Grays, Essex , where he had killed 14-year-old Breck Bednar (right) less than an hour beforehand, binding his limbs with duct tape. Today the 19-year-old was sentenced to life imprisonment after Chelmsford Crown Court heard how he groomed the schoolboy for months after meeting him on an online video gaming service. Among scores of emails exchanged between the pair were messages instructing Breck, a 'calm and gentle boy', to lie to his father about where he was going when he visited Daynes in February 2014. The 'dangerous and manipulative' criminal had previously been accused of raping another boy, but never faced conviction. Following his sentencing, Breck's mother Lorin LaFave (pictured with her son, left) said his death could have been avoided if Surrey Police had investigated her claims the teenager was being groomed. The handling of his case is to be investigated by the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Buhari can’t win election with cabals surrounding him – Gov Lamido

Dutse—Jigawa State Governor of Sule Lamido has said that the cabals surrounding the Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammad Buhari would not allow him win next month’s general elections in the country.
Lamido said that the ‘’cabals are capitalizing on Buhari’s so call popularity to seek elective positions,’’ saying, however, that ‘’Buhari cannot get the mandate of Nigerians’’ at the polls.
The governor spoke while addressing a large crowd of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, supporters in Magatari town in the state during a political rally in the area, Sunday,
“Frankly, even my party, the PDP  has agreed that General Buhari is an incorruptible person but those sounding him are selfish, they are misleading him on the present realities in the country,’’ he said.
Describing the “cabals as dangerous elements,’’ Lamido said that those deceiving Buhari were the former members of the PDP who dumped the party and moved closer to Buhari.

“These cabals seeking elective positions are betrayers. They betrayed PDP; the party which made them what they are today. They will also betray Buhari as soon as they get what they want, just as they are calling PDP all sorts of names and regard Buhari like god now. They will turn their back on him soon,’’ he noted
He however, assured that the PDP would reclaim all the states it lost due to the defection of some of its former members.
The governor then charged the people of the state not to allow themselves to be lured by desperate power seekers during the February general elections but to vote for the PDP, stressing that Jigawa was historically a PDP state.
“Maigatari town has been existing for the past 1000 years but there was no good roads, clean water supply, good schools, and medical care until when this administration emerged in 2007,’’ he pointed out and assured that more would be done if they gave their mandate to PDP.
In his remarks, PDP state governorship candidate,  Malam Aminu Ibrahim said they were in Maigatari town to express their appreciation over the people’s cooperation and support for the PDP government in the state and how they leave in peace despite their strategic location as a border town with Niger Republic.

Defence HQ says no. of people who died in Baga are not more than 150

Following that unfortunate attack, a lot of speculations and conjectures have been peddled by a section of the press particularly the on-line media regarding the casualty rate. Some claimed that over a thousand people were killed while others wrote with certainty that 2000 people lost their lives in that singular attack. Without any doubt, terrible atrocities have been committed against innocent Nigerians in Baga by the rampaging terrorists who attacked and have been operating in the town since 3 January 2015. Necessary actions are being taken to put an end to the activities of the terrorists and restore law and order to the community.

*Meeting finally holds at Obasanjo’s Hilltop residence

ABEOKUTA – HIDE and seek! That aptly captures the processes that led to a closed-door meeting between President Goodluck Jonathan and former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.
A top supporter of Jonathan told Vanguard at about 8.30 p.m, yesterday, that “the meeting is holding now” and declined further comments.
An unconfirmed report last night stated that the General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and the Founder, Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, were part of the meeting, which began at 7 p.m, last night.
The presence of the religious leaders as witnesses, sources said, was part of the conditions Obasanjo gave to hold any talk with President Jonathan.
The media was awash with expectation and anxiety over what the outcome of the two leaders’ meeting would be. Obasanjo, recently came down hard on Jonathan accusing his administration of squandering $55 billion crude oil savings and reserves. Jonathan had in turn promised to expose what former leaders and heads of state failed to do while in office that stunted the country’s socio-economic growth. He later added that some leaders were behaving like motor park touts, a comment that was perceived to be aimed at Obasanjo.

However, Obasanjo attended President Jonathan’s niece’s wedding in Abuja, weekend, and was well received as he had warm handshakes with President Jonathan and his wife, Dame Patience Jonathan.
Thus, it was not surprising that the speculated Abeokuta meeting raised hairs. At press time, yesterday, there were different reasons the meeting could not hold during the day. One account said the meeting could not be held in the afternoon because President Jonathan snubbed Obasanjo. Another account said the former president avoided the president by leaving his house where the meeting would have been held on hearing that Jonathan had arrived in Abeokuta.
The hide and seek game
Indeed, the former President left his palatial Hilltop building in Abeokuta, immediately Jonathan arrived the state capital.
Obasanjo who was driven out in his black SUV and one security Hilux van, shunned his main entrance and made use of his private gate.
Vanguard was at Obasanjo’s house to cover the expected meeting between the two leaders and observed that some security personnel who had been detailed at the former President’s house suddenly disappeared.
A source close to Obasanjo’s Hilltop mansion in Abeokuta had earlier confided in Vanguard that President Jonathan was not in Obasanjo’s itinerary for the day.
He also hinted that Obasanjo jetted out around 2: 59 p.m few minutes after the helicopter that flew the President to the state, touched down.
Operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) who had earlier besieged Obasanjo’s Hilltop mansion as early as 6a.m in anticipation of President Jonathan’s arrival also left the place at exactly 3.10p.m when it became obvious that Jonathan was not coming.
Jonathan, however, arrived at the M.K.O Stadium in Abeokuta at exactly 3.50p.m and headed straight to the state box from where he later moved out to acknowledge cheers from the crowd who had thronged the stadium venue of the campaign as early as 7. 30a.m.
Asked why President Jonathan ‘dodged’ Obasanjo and refused to visit him despite being in Abeokua, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr Doyin Okupe, said: “Dodge Obasanjo? How? The president just left the stadium now and he is in the presidential lodge in Abeokuta, resting.”
The meeting, last night, however ended at 9.53 pm without official statement from both parties.
Jonathan woos Ogun voters
At the Abeokuta rally, President Jonathan promised to create additional eight million jobs for Nigerian youths in the next four years, if re-elected.
While referring to Gen. Mohammadu’s Buhari’s assertion that if elected, he would ensure that all guilty corrupt persons are jailed, Jonathan said: “It is my prayer that a time will come in Nigeria that there will be no single prison in the country.”
He then told his audience: “You have a choice to vote for those who will build more prisons for you or my administration which will build more schools for you.”
Schools and Wealth creation
He said his administration was already working with eminent Nigerians in private sector to make the mission a reality, saying that the party was out to fight poverty through wealth and job creation.
The president said that the Federal Government had set up a technical committee to that effect which was headed by Vice-President Namadi Sambo to work the modalities for the creation of at least two million jobs every year. He explained that the Federal Government was also working with Tony Elumelu, Chairman UBA and other investors from the private sector in order to achieve the goal.
He said: “We are out to create jobs, our target is to create not less than two million jobs every year. We are working with the private sector. Tony Elumelu is part of them and when we are talking about Elumelu, you know we are talking about a serious investor.”
While explaining that PDP had changed the face of Agriculture in the country, President Jonathan declared that the PDP-led Federal Government would integrate Commercial Agriculture into the Secondary schools’ curriculum to create wealth, more jobs and to reduce the country’s balance of payment deficit on imported foods.

Meanwhile, President Jonathan has said his commitment and method of tackling corruption was not dependent on the number of people his administration tries or jails.
Though, he said his government has tried many Nigerians to show that it did not support corruption, he said the number of people tried on corruption-related offences would never stem the tide of the hydra-headed problem.
He said this at the ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan, venue of his campaign rally, yesterday.
According to him: “If I try 10 million Nigerians and jail 5 million, that does not stop corruption problem. Let me re-assure Nigerians that we will win war against terror. My commitment and method of solving corruption is not in terms of the number of people I try or jail.”
President Jonathan, who used the forum to reel out the achievements of his administration, noted that his government had empowered over one million people through its various intervention programmes.
Other achievements, he said, include ongoing reconstruction of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, power projects, Ibadan Airport renovation, Ibadan-Lagos-Kano railway line rehabilitation, among other empowerment projects cited in Oyo State.
This came just as the president urged Nigerian women to vote him in for another four years to liberate themselves or risk being restricted to the kitchen by the opposition.
Though, some aggrieved chieftains of the party who felt cheated in the way the party’s governorship candidate was finally selected were conspicuously absent at the rally, their absence did not take the shine-off the event.
Speaking one after the other, many chieftains of the party including governorship and senatorial candidates gave reasons the South-West should back Jonathan’s re-election ambition.
The Minister of State, FCT, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide buttressed the achievements of the president saying he gave $200 million to the South West to check flooding which claimed lives some years ago in the state.
The Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko said the South-West belonged to the PDP, adding that Nigerians should not vote for a president that cannot boot a computer because “the 21st century requires a president that is young, computer compliant and current .”
Mulikat Akande, the leader of the House of Representatives said the rally was to receive the president and to flag-off the party’s campaign in the state.
In attendance were the Vice President, Namadi Sambo; PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Muazu; Minister of State, FCT, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide; Senator Hosea Agboola; High Chief Lekan Balogun, PDP chieftain; Olusegun Mimiko; Mr. Femi Fani-Kayode, Director of Media and Publicity, Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation and PDP senatorial candidates in Oyo South, North and Central among others.

Security Operatives Arrest Suspects Who Burnt GEJ’s Campaign Buses In Jos

According to Premium Times, the Special Taskforce on Jos crisis has announced that it has arrested the suspects that set ablaze two campaign buses of President Goodluck Jonathan in Jos yesterday.

THE All Progressives Congress (APC) has described the allegation by the Department of State Service (DSS) that it planned to hack into the database of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as part of ongoing efforts of the President Goodluck Jonathan administration to postpone next month’s general elections.
  Meanwhile, Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali, Sunday condemned the burning of a campaign vehicle of Jonathan in Jos at the weekend by suspected supporters of the APC.
  Also, the Senior Pastor, Latter Rain Assembly and former presidential running mate of the APC presidential candidate, Major-Gen Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) on the platform of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), Tunde Bakare, has denied the insinuation that he is practically working against the 2015 elections. ABUJA—  PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, traded words with the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Candidate, Major-General Muhammadu (rtd) over the burning of his campaign vehicles in Jos, Plateau State.
President Jonathan, who is running on the banner of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) urged Buhari to call his supporters to order on the grounds that suspected APC supporters burnt two of his campaign buses, saying that the action was a sign of desperation on the part of the opposition party.
However, the Buhari Campaign Organisation has distanced itself from the allegation, saying that the incident in Jos was passed as a PDP on PDP violence arising from the party’s rigged primaries.
