President Jonathan's Response After Card Reader Failure

Despite the delay in his accreditation, President Goodluck Jonathan still defended the use of the card reader insisting that as a new voting system hitches are to be expected.

Speaking after he did his accreditation, after a more than 30 minute delay, Jonathan said he was pleading with Nigerians to be patient with INEC and ensure that the nation carries out a free and fair election.

“What is important is that the whole world accepts that Nigeria carries out a free and fair election. Voters should be patient, if I can so should other Nigerians.”

He stressed that Nigerians should not instigate crisis anywhere and ensure that the process is carried out peacefully,

He said the whole world was interested in the election, pointing out that he had received calls from such presidents and heads of state, like Obama, Cameron and Zuma all pleading for peaceful elections to be carried out.

The website of the Independent National Electoral Commission has been hacked. The website is hacked by a group that parade itself as Nigerian Cyber Army. The hacking was confirmed by INEC on its Twitter handle, @inecnigeria

Election: Nigerians Blast Jega As Card Readers Malfunction Nationwide

In ensuring that peaceful election is conducted! Nigerians have expressed outrage over the state of the card readers as they troop out to get accredited in readiness for today's election.

The popular complaint is that the Card readers are failing to verify their finger prints, and in what is considered an embarrassing situation of epic proportions, President Goodluck Jonathan himself was captured on TV, sweating as he stood with a flummoxed INEC official who fumbled with the card reader as it continued to reject the President's finger prints. What a failure.....

That situation has now been cleared up, however, as the president has been accredited.

Social media is filled with the outrage of Nigerian who demand to know why accreditation is being 'unnecessarily difficult' and they are blaming the INEC chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega. Some citizens have accused the chairman of not properly testing the card reader technology before the election day.

INEC Chairman, Prof. Attahiru Jega says that results from tomorrow's general election will be announced 48 hours after the elections have been concluded. So basically expect results on Monday March 30. He said this during a joint press briefing with the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig. Gen. Johnson Olawumi in Abuja today March 27th.

There are ways to report on occasional close approaches by near-Earth objects (NEOs) that convey the respectful awareness of their presences and the fact that our planet shares its neighborhood with many other objects, large and small… and that sometimes their paths around the Sun bring them unnervingly close to our own.
Then there’s just straight-up over-sensationalism intended to drum up page views by scaring the heck out of people, regardless of facts.
Apparently this is what’s happened regarding the upcoming close approach by NEO 2014 YB35. An asteroid of considerable (but definitely not unprecedented) size – estimated 440-990 meters in diameter, or around a third of a mile across – YB35 will pass by Earth on Friday, March 27, coming as close as 11.7 times the distance between Earth and the Moon at 06:20 UTC.
11.7 lunar distances. That’s 4.5 million kilometers, or almost 2.8 million miles. Cosmically close, sure, but far from “skimming”…and certainly with no danger of an impact or any of the nasty effects that would be a result thereof. None. Zero. Zilch. NASA isn’t concerned, and you shouldn’t be either.

I typically wouldn’t even bother writing up something like this, except that I have been seeing posts shared among acquaintances on Facebook and Twitter that refer to sensationalist articles portraying the event as a frightening near-miss by an apocalyptic object. I won’t link to those articles here but in short they focus heavily on the destructive nature of an object the size of YB35 were it to hit Earth and how it would wipe out “all species” of life on our planet wholesale, and how YB35 is “on course” with Earth’s orbit.

Information from multiple sources, four commercial banks in Owo town, Ondo state were attacked by armed robbers numbering about 10 this evening.
