Abuja—The re-election of President Goodluck Jonathan got a boost in the North-East on Tuesday with the Bauchi State Governor, Mallam isa Yuguda, assuring that that the president could not lose election in the state with him in the saddle.
Yuguda, who spoke exclusively to Vanguard in Abuja, asked Jonathan not to lose sleep over Bauchi votes, as he was on the ground to deliver the state to him and the Peoples Democratic Party despite attempts by some politicians to cause distraction for personal aggrandisement.
The governor said despite attempts by some politicians to blackmail him before the president, he remains committed to ensuring his victory.
Yuguda said it would amount to a betrayal for him to remain in PDP and work against Jonathan and PDP, knowing that as a Muslim, Islam forbids betrayal.
The governor said: “I am not one of those who say one thing and mean the opposite. That would amount to a betrayal and betrayal is forbidden by Islam. I will never be a party to that.
“I would rather have told President Jonathan face to face, just like the other governors who left had done that they would not work with him and I would have walked away rather than remain in the party to work against him,” Yuguda explained.
”In 2011, Jonathan did not win in Bauchi but I am assuring him that this time around he is going to win in the state because we are solidly behind him.”
