ONITSHA—The senator representing Anambra Central senatorial district in the National Assembly, Dr. Chris Nwabueze Ngige, has reacted to the postponement of the general elections from February to March and April, this year, accusing the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP of masterminding the pressure on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to postpone the exercise.
According to the former governor, the essence is simply to avert imminent electoral defeat of the PDP, if the elections were allowed to hold as scheduled.
The presidential/National Assembly elections and governorship/State House of Assembly Elections previously scheduled to hold on February 14 and 28, 2015 were postponed to March 28 and April 11, 2015 respectively by INEC chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, who cited security challenges and logistics problems as reasons for the postponement.
But Senator Ngige, while reacting to the announcement of the postponement 24 hours after a mammoth crowd of party supporters and members welcomed his campaign train to Isiagu, Nibo, Umuawulu and Mbaukwu towns of Awka South II constituency (Obizi), faulted the postponement.
He expressed doubt that the six weeks given, within which to tackle the challenges to the polls, would be met.
According to him, the ruling PDP has lost steam, having not performed to convince the electorate to return the party to power.
He stressed that the opposition party, All Progressives Congress, APC, would disgrace PDP any time the polls were held.
He canvassed support for APC presidential candidate, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), pointing out that Ndigbo would be better off under the APC administration than PDP.
