Break out the cosmos;
Sarah Jessica Parker is coming back to
HBO with a new comedy,
Divorce. From
Sharon Horgan (
Pulling), the show tells the story of a long-gestating separation. The
Sex and the City
star will play the lead role of Frances, a woman who attempts to
restart her life after the end of her marriage. (Cue pun-filled musing
on life and love.) The New York–set comedy costars
Thomas Haden Church, Molly Shannon, and
Talia Balsam.
There may not be grounds for SATC fans to get carried away with
visions of Manolos and Mr. Big, but a girl can dream! Here is everything
we hope happens on
Divorce.
Thomas Haden Church as the soon-to-be ex

Thomas Haden Church is reportedly playing the role
of Frances’s estranged husband, Robert. We’re imagining the role as a
combination of both Mr. Big and Richard. Maybe Frances discovered he was
cheating on her (and proceeds to paper his neighborhood), maybe he left
her for The Simple Girl, or maybe he didn’t build her a big enough
closet?
Molly Shannon as the uptight friend

Molly Shannon is slotted to play the role of
Frances’s “high-strung” friend. We can only hope the character is a
hybrid of Miranda, Charlotte, and Mary Katherine Gallagher.
Talia Balsam as Dallas

With a name like Dallas, we’re thinking that Talia
Balsam’s newest role has a bit of Samantha in her. Maybe in hopes of
recapturing her youth, she trades in her Manhattan high-rise for a loft
in Bushwick. (We’re certain a few late-night neighbor altercations will
ensue.)
Jermain Clement as a potential mate

Flight of the Conchords’s
Jemaine Clement
will allegedly appear in the episode’s pilot. Could Jemaine play SJP’s
first suitor? The date will inevitably go horribly wrong, which will
cause Jemaine to break into
tearful song.

SJP’s newest role can’t be exactly like
Sex and the City’s
Carrie, but we’re hoping a few things will stay the same: lots of
staring out of windows, lots of voice-overs, lots of aphorisms.
