FG Should Apologise to Boko Haram - Bakare

The Overseer of Latter Rain Assembly Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has said one of the ways to end the Boko Haram insurgency is for the Federal Government to apologise to members of the sect over the murder of their leader, Mohammed Yusuf, in 2009.

Bakare, who was Buhari’s Vice-Presidential running mate in the 2011 presidential elections, said “but for the timely intervention of God, last week’s assassination attempt on General Muhamadu Buhari might have marked the beginning of the end for Nigeria if it had succeeded. We will not also ignore the fact that at the root of the escalation of the Boko Haram crisis was oppression and injustice."

”The summary execution of Boko Haram’s former leader, Mohammed Yusuf in 2009 provided the soil of martyrdom for the nurture and growth of the sect. Government must declare peace first of all; apologising for the murder of Mohammed Yusuf to the sect members not their sympathisers or bandits.”

APC are the Sponsors of Boko Haram - Fani-Kayode

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has again challenged the All Progressives Congress to explain its relationship with the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram, saying the party was not able to controvert him, few months ago, when he accused it of sponsoring the sect. While speaking with journalists in Osogbo, Osun State capital, on Tuesday, Fani-Kayode insisted that some members of the APC, particularly those from the North, were sponsoring the operations of Boko Haram.

He said, “The APC in the North is the political wing of Boko Haram in the northern part of Nigeria. This, I have said before and no one among them was bold enough to challenge me. I will continue to say it again and again. The northern elements in the APC have to explain to all Nigerians why some of their leaders in the North support, encourage and defend Boko Haram members."

Fani-Kayode, who recently defected from the APC to the PDP, also said he had met with the people that matter in the PDP including President Goodluck Jonathan and they had assured him of an enabling stay in the ruling party. He said he would work for the victory of the PDP in the forthcoming governorship election in Osun State and would also contribute to the victory of the party in the 2015 general elections. He added that the PDP remained the only national party in the country.

The chairman, Governing Council, National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria, Chidi Odinkalu has released a public statement on Enugu First Clama Chime's case. Statement below..
I have been inundated by inquiries about the on going processes of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in relation to a recent complaint initiated by Mrs. Clara Chime. As the complainant in this case is the spouse of a senior political office holder, this complaint has naturally elicited somewhat fevered public interest.
In connection with this matter and in the past 72 Hours, the Commission deployed a high level investigation team to Enugu. Professor Bem Angwe, the Executive Secretary of the Commission, led the team. Upon returning from Enugu, the Executive Secretary, reflecting the public interest in this case, exercised judgement in authorizing and issuing on 8 November 2013 a public statement on the visit to Enugu.
