By Gbenga Ariyibi

The governor was speaking in Ado Ekiti yesterday while inaugurating some projects to mark his 100 days in office.
According to him, the entitlements included August and September 2014 salaries of some workers, subventions due to state-owned institutions, leave bonus among others.
Fayose declared that despite the challenges and commitments that he would strive to execute some projects and pay salaries promptly.
“We have about N7.8 billion obligation to workers in the state. The obligations were left behind by the former administration, which include over N2 billion as leave bonus to workers, over N1 billion as deductions from workers’ salaries that the former administration did no remit.
“August and September 2014 salaries they did not pay some workers amounting to over N2 billion. Subventions to tertiary institutions which is over N2 billion as well.
“I don’t know where to start sometimes I cannot sleep. We did not inherit anything tangible from the former administration.

The Confederation of African Football said in a statement "the two pitches (in Ebebiyin and Monogo) have been adversely affected by combination of wear and tear from the six games played or to be played in each of them and the unstable weather conditions seen lately".

Re: Buhari vs Jonathan: Beyond the Election, by Kayode Fayemi

We commend Professor Chukwuma Soludo for his insightful and incisive article published in the Vanguard Newspaper of January 26th under the above title. We agree with Professor Soludo that if the political parties, including ours, must justify the overwhelming enthusiasm of Nigerians about the 2015 elections we must remain focused on the issues that matter most to them, which is the progress of our country and the well being of our people. Indeed, this has been the driving sentiment of our party and our campaign all along.
While we accept his critical comments on our party, more for the intentions than for the letters, we believe some clarifications would be quite necessary. We wish to emphasise that our party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), presents a real option to Nigerians. Professor Soludo expressed the sentiments of most Nigerians when he spoke about the incalculable damage that the PDP under President Jonathan has done to the Nigerian economy and the unprecedented hardship that his six years of the locust has brought upon Nigerians.

INEC disqualifies 7 gov candidates

…For failing to nominate running mates

..Declares Reps candidate winner for not having opponent

By Joseph Erunke

ABUJA—THE Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate for Ado/Opoku/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency in Benue State, Christian Adabah Abah, as winner of the February 14, 2015 general elections.

INEC also disqualified seven governorship candidates from various parties from participating in the February 28 governorship election for failing to nominate their running mates.

Explaining reasons for declaring Abah winner for the election that was yet to hold, INEC said it was because he (Abah) is the sole candidate seeking election into the House of Representative election.

These were contained in INEC’s daily bulletin on the election yesterday, saying that the common offence of the governorship candidates was their inability to nominate their running mates.

Muhammadu Buhari lied under oath

By Femi Aribisala

THESE are interesting times. Muhammadu Buhari, the APC presidential candidate whose only policy plank is that he will fight against corruption without wavering, is not as straight-forward as he would have Nigerians believe. Buhari lied under oath. He perjured himself claiming his school-leaving certificate is with the military. This has now been revealed to be a tissue of lies.

This is a scandal of immense proportions in an aspiring presidential candidate. Under no circumstances should it be swept under the carpet. For this blatant perjury, Buhari must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. It should also lead to his disqualification from contesting for election as president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

In the language of Buhari’s own anti-corruption rhetoric, Nigeria must be shown to be a nation of laws and of the rule of law. No man, no matter how highly-placed, no matter his ethnic or political pedigree, should be shown to be above the law. For this reason, a public example must be made of Buhari.

Graphic pics: Student's head cut open during clash between APC and PDP members in Ekiti state

Another scene of mayhem as A student of the Ekiti state University suffered severe cut on his head during a clash between the APC and the PDP in the state on Saturday January 24th. While the APC allege that the clash broke out after the National Vice-President, External, National Association of Nigerian Students, Tosin Ogunkuade was arrested by the state police for speaking during its presidential campaign, the state Governor in his defence said the people arrested were thugs of the APC who wanted to cause trouble in the state. The youngman with the cut is currently receiving medical attention. The pic is bad. See it after the cut...

Certificate Saga: My documents with INEC – Buhari

* Says litigants will remain in court
Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, General Muhammadu Buhari (Ret), yesterday, insisted that his academic certificates were submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, which were duly acknowledged by the Legal Department of the commission, wondering why people were still making issues of it. Speaking in Abuja, when the Peoples Democratic Movement, PDM, formally adopted him as its presidential candidate for the February poll, Buhari said: “Well I am not surprised. This is Nigeria. If people are serious about this issue, they ought to have listened to the Legal Adviser of INEC.
“This is the first time, INEC by law has got those documents and they said they have got them. So, anybody who has any different view should go to court. I think they have gone to court. So, let them remain there.”
An Abuja lawyer, Mr. Chike Okafor, had on Monday, in a suit before a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, sought to disqualify Buhari from contesting the February 14 presidential election on account of false information given by the candidate in the affidavit he submitted to INEC, in support of his nomination form.
Meanwhile, an Abuja Chief Magistrate’s Court, yesterday, was asked to okay the prosecution of General Buhari over allegations that he gave false evidence to a public officer.

My successors must be younger than me —Jonathan

LAFIA—PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan yesterday set an age barrier for a possible successor if he wins re-election, saying that anyone above 57 years would not receive his support in 2019.

The President also promised to give special attention to Nasarawa State on account of what he said is the proximity of the state to Abuja.

OMG! Sold by their own families for £50k: Tanzania's albinos hacked apart by witchdoctors who believe their body parts 'bring luck'

It has been revealed that Tanzania has the highest number of killings and attacks of albinos in Africa and trade in body parts of the special people is driven by belief that they bring luck and wealth.

From UK Daily Mail
Tanzania's albinos are being 'hunted down like animals' as greed for money and influence drives families to turn on their own loved ones in a trade allegedly fuelled by some of the country's most powerful people. It is believed albino body parts will bring a person wealth, or luck - and for that, people are willing to pay as much as $3,000 or $4,000 for a limb, or as much as $75,000 - about £50,000 - for the 'full set', a whole body.

Black Woman Marries HERSELF Cause She Couldn’t Find A Husband By The Time She Turned 40

Happiness they say is from withing! With the reported percentages of black men being dead, in jail or marrying outside their race it’s no wonder a black woman can’t find a good husband.. (If you feed into those statistics)

But now, thanks to a woman in Houston, Texas a lot of black women might start a new trend of marrying themselves.

FFK attacks Soludo, says he's confused, vengeful & has axe to grind

In a swift rejoinder! The Director of Media and Publicity of the PDP Presidential Campaign, Femi Fani Kayode, has responded to the article penned down by former CBN governor, Prof. Charles Soludo. For criticizing president Jonathan's economic policies, FFK said Soludo is confused and has lost touch with reality.

According to Punch, FFK said he would be gentle with Soludo because of the soft spot he has for him
"Soludo has criticised the President, his government and his handling of the economy. Meanwhile Nigeria has just won the prestigious award of being designated as the largest economy in Africa and this has happened under the watch of Pres. Jonathan and no-one else. Should any right-thinking person, who has the nation’s interest at heart be complaining about that? Needless to say my friend and brother Charles Soludo is confused and conflicted. He seems to have lost touch with reality and this is what often happens when you spend too much time with the Buharists. I pray that sooner than later, he comes to his senses and he sees the light." FFK said

Tunisia and Congo DR have both qualified for quarterfinals of the 2015 African Nations Cup tournament in Equatorial Guinea.

With the outcome of the games in the final round of matches in group B, Cape Verde and Zambia became the latest two teams to exit the competition.

Cape Verde would be cursing their luck as they only got eliminated despite having the same goal difference with DR Congo, as the latter went through by virtue of more goals scored.

Buhari meets with EU election monitoring team (photos)

Information reaching us is that Members of the European Union election monitoring team met with the presidential candidate of the APC, Gen. Buhari today, over next month's general election. The members, led by Mr Santiago, said 90 members of their team are expected in Nigeria during the elections.

The team however stated that because of the security challenges in the north, they will not be heading there for any monitoring exercise.

Must Read article by former CBN governor, Charles Soludo, that's got everyone talking

Former Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Charles Soludo, wrote a very long article yesterday titled 'Buhari vs Jonathan, Beyond the elections', where he x-rayed the chances of the two men winning next month's general elections and the challenges that lie ahead. In a bit summary....He discussed salient issues.

Furthermore, In the very incisive piece, Soludo took the present administration to cleaner of having poor economic plan which he graded "F" . He says President Jonathan's economic team is too weak due to its composition of "self-interested and self-conflicted group of traders and businessmen".

He said "President Jonathan if you are not re-elected, there is little to remember about your regime after the next few years".

On Buhari, he said the former military leader and his team must realize that they do not yet have a coherent, credible agenda that is consistent with the fundamentals of the economy currently. The APC manifesto contains some good principles and wish-lists, but as a blue print for Nigeria’s security and prosperity, it is largely hollow, he said. Thus, his first job is to present a credible development agenda to Nigerians. Find the article after the cut...(but brace yourselves, it's very long)

 Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka
By Chinedu Eze
Notwithstanding the enormous challenges  Nigeria is faced with currently, the country holds greater opportunities for her citizens with projections that her economy would continue to grow at the rate of over 6 per cent for the next 20 years.

Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, stated this at the weekend when he delivered the 44th Convocation Lecture of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka titled, “Rebuilding the Nigerian Dream: Mapping the Building Blocks.”

The Minister said  Nigeria has highly skilled, hardworking people with huge natural resources and large population that make the country a big market for goods and services, which are key areas that would serve as stimulant to her economic growth.

Chidoka said Nigerians are fastidious and therefore have the tendency to criticise their country even when it is unnecessary, adding that although that attitude is seemingly wrong but it spurs the citizens and government to do things better.

The PDP, in a statement issued yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, described the APC as lacking in policy direction, boasting that all the achievements of the PDP-led government were verifiable.
The party said its array of candidates for the February elections were far better than those of the APC, adding that same was applicable to the policy direction of both parties.
The party noted that it was the only truly pan-Nigerian party for which the unity, stability and prosperity of the nation remained paramount.
PDP said:   “The founding fathers of the PDP had their eyes set on specific goals, which include ensuring the indivisibility of Nigeria, sustenance of democracy and providing enabling environment for the prosperity and welfare of our people.

Stop The Mudslinging And Answer These: APC Asks PDP Tough Questions

Lai-Mohammed-447x300

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has challenged the PDP to tell Nigerians how it plans to move from the near zero governance of the past six years of the Jonathan Administration to good and purposeful governance, instead of engaging in perpetual and tiring mudslinging.

”We believe that elections should be about issues that will be beneficial to the electorate, not about throwing everything but the kitchen sink at a particular candidate simply because of his soaring acceptability.

”Therefore, it is time for the PDP to end the muckraking and tell Nigerians how it plans to tackle the worsening insecurity in the land,.the collapsing national currency, with the US dollar now exchanging for 215 Naira, massive unemployment, especially among the youth, decayed infrastructure and the unprecedented corruption under President Jonathan’s watch,” the party said in a statement issued in Lagos on Sunday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.
