Goodluck Jonathan's Campaign Team traps in Maiduguri
The Cable reports that the advance team that went to Borno state to prepare the area for President Jonathan's Saturday Campaign is now trapped in Maiduguri following the Boko Haram attack on the area on Sunday.
The Cable's source says the trapped team comprises of members of the President's medical, media and security teams.
The source says the stuck team was taking refuge in a protected area.
President Jonathan's convoy arrived Maiduguri late on Friday, heavily protected, and they were scheduled to leave on Sunday morning, but the Boko Haram attack has forced a change of plans.
“Some people who came with the convoy took the risk to leave Maiduguri against security advice when the attack was still building,” the source said.
“But others decided to stay and wait for the attack to be quelled before leaving. What is happening is that the insurgents are desperate to launch an attack related to the president’s visit. They want to embarrass the presidency.”
Meanwhile 9 soldiers and a little over 50 members of Bko haram died during the attacks. The curfew which was placed on Maiduguri by the Military is to be lifted later today
