So for the past few days I have been thinking that if I were a Crow, I could happily roam everywhere.
That's our problem too. We make unnecessary comparison with others and become sad. We don't value what God has given us. This all leads to the vicious cycle of unhappiness. Let's value the things God has given us. Learn the secret of being happy and discard the comparison which leads only to unhappiness. Learn to thank God for everything. Beauty is not a guarantee to marriage. Falling sick does not mean you are about to die. Getting rich is not the definition of prosperity. Building a nice house is not enjoying luxury. Sleeping on an expensive bed does not bring you sound sleep. Driving a new car is not a guarantee that you're going to arrive at your destination. Wearing the best clothes does not mean they look good on you. Having a family doctor does not guarantee permanent health. Being highly educated is not a sign of wisdom. Marrying from a rich home does not guarantee a happy marriage. Winning an argument does not mean that you are correct. Whatever is done without the merit of Heaven is fake or temporal. He who builds without God, is building for nothing; and he who watches over a city without God, watches in vain. Not everything is possible with men. Yet everything is possible with God. Stay blessed and be contented with what God has given to you!

Presidential candidate Donald Trump briefly called for "some form of punishment" for women who have abortions, if it became illegal.
His initial comments made during a town hall event with cable network MSNBC sparked a wave of criticism.
However, Mr Trump quickly reversed his position, saying only the person who performed the abortion should be punished.
But he maintained: "My position has not changed."
The front-runner supports a ban on abortions, with certain exceptions.
Abortion has been legal in the United States since 1973 after a landmark Supreme Court ruling.
Only the high court or a constitutional amendment has the power to overturn Roe v Wade and make abortion illegal.

EgyptAir hijack: Man held after using fake suicide belt
An Egyptian hijacker who forced a domestic flight to land in Cyprus used a fake suicide belt, officials said.
His motives remain unclear but the Cypriot president said the incident was not terrorism-related.
Footage released by Egypt's interior ministry shows the man passing through several security checks at Alexandria's Borg El Arab airport.
The drama ended with all passengers released unhurt at Larnaca airport and the man giving himself up.

Cypriot officials named the hijacker as Seif Eldin Mustafa and said he was "psychologically unstable".

Police in Cairo were questioning Mustafa's relatives, AP news agency reported.
The Egyptair plane left Larnaca at 22:05 local time (19:05 GMT) bound for Cairo, its original destination.

Egypt's tourism ministry insisted all airport security measures had been "fully implemented" before Egyptair Flight MS181 began its flight earlier in the day.
CCTV footage released by the interior ministry shows Mustafa being frisked at two security checks and passing a slim bag through x-ray machines.
The BBC's Youssef Taha says Egypt has taken steps to improve airport security after Russian Metrojet Flight 9268 was blown up over Sinai last October.
They include an extra $1bn a year and a deal with British consultancy Control Risks to review procedures at Cairo, Sharm El-Sheikh and Marsa Alam airports.
Despite this, our correspondent says checks remain inconsistent, with many VIPs and MPs refusing to be searched and airport and airline staff routinely bypassing full security screening.

AFCON 2017: Again Super Eagles fail to qualify
NIGERIA will not appear in next year’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon as the Super Eagles failed to produce the spark that could have earned them the ticket when they fell 0-1 to the Pharaohs of Egypt in Alexandria last night. It will be the second time in two years that the Super Eagles have failed to qualify for the Nations Cup.

EgyptAir hijack: Jet lands at Larnaca airport
An EgyptAir airliner has been hijacked and forced to divert to Larnaca airport on the south coast of Cyprus.
Flight MS181, an Airbus A320 carrying 81 passengers from Alexandria to Cairo, was taken over by at least one hijacker.
A passenger who said he was wearing a suicide belt ordered the flight crew to divert to Cyprus, EgyptAir said.
Cypriot police said those in control of the aircraft had made no immediate demands after it landed.
Larnaca airport has been closed and scheduled flights diverted elsewhere.

THE ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, was literally divided, yesterday, over whether or not Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, should retain his prime position in the APC-led Federal Government on account of the worsening fuel scarcity and his comments that he is not a magician. While the National Vice Chairman of the APC, South South wants Kachikwu to resign immediately, the South-East chapter of the party thinks otherwise. This is coming as mixed reactions greeted APC National Leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s, blasting of Kachikwu, weekend, on the issue. ‘’Kachikwu’s flippancy was out of line. He was basically telling Nigerians that they should be lucky that they are getting the inadequate supply they now suffer,’’ Tinubu spat.

We are Working Hard to Overcome Our Challenges, President Assures Nigerians
President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday assured Nigerians that his administration was “working very hard” to overcome the challenges it encountered on assumption of office.
“We are moving on with an unshaken resolve and determination to deliver on the mandate you gave us on March 28, last year,” the President said in his Easter message, where he also thanked Nigerians for their patience and understanding in the first ten months of his administration.
Assuring Nigerians that his government will deliver on its promised change, he said “that change, which we all yearn for, will certainly occur more rapidly if we all place the love of our country above selfish personal and group interests.”
The President also commented on the 2016 budget passed last week by the National Assembly, promising to ensure that the budget was faithfully implemented to grow the economy.

Nigerians React to Super Eagles' 1 - 1 Draw With Egypt
Heartbrak for Nigeria.
Super Eagles on Friday were punished by the Pharaohs of Egypt after Mohammed Salah grabbed a last minute goal to cancel out Etebo's strike in a crucial AFCON 2017 qualifying match.
The Eagles played a goalless first half in the hot weather of Kaduna state. The two sides had several chances to lead but couldn't convert them into goals. Ahmed Musa, El-neny came close and Kelechi Iheanacho's shot was blocked. Odion Ighalo also had a great opportunity to put the Eagles forward but missed the net from two yards out.
Both teams started brightly in the second half with Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo troubling the Egyptian defense with deadly moves. Egypt also threatened with Mohammed Salah and looked dangerous.
However Oghenekaro Etebo put the eagles forwards with a strike in the 59th minute. Iheanacho’s shot hits the cross bar and falls to Etobo who gladly rebounds home.
Nigeria continued to search for the second goal with Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo and Moses Simon being denied by the Egyptian goalkeeper.
The Eagles were on course for a win but gifted Mohammed Salah a goal at the last minute through poor defending.
Egypt remains top of the group with 7 points. Nigeria trails with two points less.

Alleged false declaration: FRN vs Tinubu was in error – CCT
The Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja, yesterday, declined to quash the 13-count charge preferred against the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, by the Federal Government. saraki dockThe Justice Danladi Umar-led panel held that the charge against him was valid and competent in law. The CCT said both the law that established it and the 1999 constitution, as amended, conferred it with the jurisdiction to hear and determine the case against the defendant. This came as legal luminaries, including retired and serving Supreme Court justices, picked holes in the trial, stressing that the CCT had no judicial powers to try criminal matters.

Neighbours' fears over James May's plans for a new superhome... with space for 40 motorbikes and fleet of cars
Former Top Gear presenter James May appears to be racing into another bust-up, following Jeremy Clarkson's brawl with a BBC producer.
I hear that May has alarmed neighbours with plans to spend a slice of his £10 million fortune demolishing his West London home, which is in a conservation area, and building a superhome complete with a garage for his fleet of luxury motors, which includes a Ferrari with gold wheels.
According to plans filed last month, May, 53, will demolish the house he bought for £325,000 in 2000 and combine it with the semi-derelict property next door, for which he paid £310,000 five years ago, to store his 40 motorbikes and extensive collection of leathers

When it comes to terror, isn’t it time we started listening seriously to Trump? Says Piers Morgan
How many more?
That’s all I could think this morning as news broke of yet another ISIS terror attack, this time in Brussels.
How many more innocent men, women and children are going to be blown to pieces by these murderous bastards?
How many more airports, train stations, sports stadiums, restaurants or concert halls will be obliterated in a hail of suicide bombs and bullets?
How many more world leaders will wring their hands on national television afterwards and spout pointless platitudes about the ‘poor brave victims’ and ‘heroic emergency services’?
How many taunting, gleeful claims of responsibility will the despicable perpetrators of these evil crimes be able to issue?
I’m sick of this, aren’t you?
Sick of feeling sick about such endless, senseless barbarism.
And the worst thing about it is that I see no end.
The inherent problem which causes it, chaotic war-torn instability in the Middle East, is getting worse, not better; just as the financial and military resource of the enemy is growing greater, not reducing.
Yet just as the world is crying out for strong decisive leadership, there is none.
America has a demob happy President Obama eeking out his last few months in office. A man whose infamous ‘leading from behind’ philosophy to foreign policy has been partly responsible for the war in Syria raging uncontrollably for five years – allowing fundamentalism to ferment.
Obama has zero interest in doing anything tangible to really deal with ISIS. This is now parked in the tray marked ‘next president’s problem.’
Europe, meanwhile, is splintering at the seams, ravaged by an unprecedented migration crisis that nobody seems to have a clue how to handle.
German chancellor Angela Merkel’s decision to let a million migrants into its country is already seen to be an utter disaster.
France, reeling from two horrendous attacks in Paris, is understandably highly fearful of yet more terror coming its way.
Belgium officials effectively conceded today that they have no real way to protect themselves against the ISIS threat. A fact surely born out by the fact that today’s onslaught in Brussels happened right when the city most expected it, following the capture of Paris attacks suspect Saleh Abdeslam three days ago.
Britain, surely a target anytime soon, is on red alert but its warring politicians are too distracted by the upcoming EU referendum in June to pay anything more than lame lip service to terrorism.
So nobody seems to be doing anything concrete to stop ISIS, or even suggesting a new way to do so given the spectacular lack of success to date.
Well almost nobody.
By coincidence, I had an interview scheduled today with the world’s most controversial man, Donald Trump, for my UK show, Good Morning Britain.
It was set up a couple of weeks ago, but the timing was eerily prescient.
Here is one man who definitely has a plan to deal with ISIS terrorism. Several plans in fact.
The problem is that people don’t like them. Well, a lot of people don’t anyway.
Trump, current front-runner for the Republican nomination, wants to hit ISIS ‘so hard they never recover’.
(As he told me: ‘You've got to take them out and you've got to take them out harshly and you've got to take them out fast.’)
He also wants a short-term ban on Muslims entering the U.S. until, as he puts it, ‘we figure out what the hell is going on?’
And he wants to torture suspects like Abdeslam with techniques like water-boarding to try and extract information about future attacks.
Oh, and he wants to build a giant wall to stop illegal immigrants pouring over the Mexican border into America.

So nobody seems to be doing anything concrete to stop ISIS, or even suggesting a new way to do so given the spectacular lack of success to date.
Well almost nobody.
By coincidence, I had an interview scheduled today with the world’s most controversial man, Donald Trump, for my UK show, Good Morning Britain.
It was set up a couple of weeks ago, but the timing was eerily prescient.
Here is one man who definitely has a plan to deal with ISIS terrorism. Several plans in fact.
The problem is that people don’t like them. Well, a lot of people don’t anyway.
Trump, current front-runner for the Republican nomination, wants to hit ISIS ‘so hard they never recover’.
(As he told me: ‘You've got to take them out and you've got to take them out harshly and you've got to take them out fast.’)
He also wants a short-term ban on Muslims entering the U.S. until, as he puts it, ‘we figure out what the hell is going on?’
And he wants to torture suspects like Abdeslam with techniques like water-boarding to try and extract information about future attacks.
Oh, and he wants to build a giant wall to stop illegal immigrants pouring over the Mexican border into America.

Brussels attacks: Police hunt Zaventem bombings suspect
Belgian police have issued a wanted notice for a suspect after bomb attacks at Brussels' main airport and a metro station left more than 30 people dead.
The man was seen walking with two other suspects shortly before twin explosions tore through Zaventem airport.
Both men died in the attacks after detonating suicide devices, a Belgian prosecutor said.
Anti-terror raids have taken place across Belgium. So-called Islamic State (IS) said it was behind the attacks.
An online statement from the group said the locations were "carefully selected" and warned of worse to come for "Crusader states allied against the Islamic State".
The US State Department has urged US citizens of "potential risks" of travelling to Europe.
"Terrorist groups continue to plan near-term attacks throughout Europe, targeting sporting events, tourist sites, restaurants and transportation," a statement said.

No to State of Emergency in Rivers, Ekiti states – Fayose
The governor who spoke to State House Correspondents at the end of the opening ceremony of the National Economic Council Summit at the Old Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja was reacting to the outcome of the national assembly/State House rerun elections in the state. Fayose condemned what he called the “militarization” of state during elections, saying that what happened in Rivers was a pointless display of ego. “They have been insinuating that too in Ekiti. We have been waiting for them. Power has gone beyond the leaders, power has gone back to the people. “There are certain things leaders will do today, you will eat it tomorrow. “You want to declare state of emergency, declare it and we will tell you that the state of emergency will not work too. This country belongs to all of us.” The governor also condemned the election in its entirety, calling for transparency. He also expressed displeasure over the detention of Ekiti State Lawmaker by the Department of State Security, DSS. “I want to condemn the election in Rivers State. I want to condemn the militarization. “Like I said to some people yesterday, if in Ekiti election nobody was slapped, nobody died, the person defeated congratulated the winner, do we now call this Rivers election Rivers of Blood? “Because for a peaceful election in Ekiti and this in Rivers, the military has got no business in our election. “Now, I want to say that if you watch the trend, PDP has always won all the elections after the annulment, which means what happened in Rivers is just a service of ego of some individuals who believe they have Nigeria in their pockets. They can call the president at will to deploy the military and it’s unfortunate that somebody would allow the military to kill his own people. “I strongly condemn the elections in Rivers and charge that we sustain the legacy of transparent elections. “For me in Ekiti, we learned from that and we are prepared. NYSC Batch A Orientation Programme Postponed
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has shifted to April 27, the three-week Batch A Orientation course earlier scheduled to start on March 30.
Abosede Aderibigbe, NYSC’s director of press and public relations, made the confirmation while responding to an inquiry by TheCable.
Aderibigbe did not state any reason for the shift, but apologised to the prospective corps members over any inconvenience that the development could create.
“We wish to confirm the shift in date for the commencement of the 2016 Batch ‘A’ Orientation course,” she said.
The new time-table for the course is as follows:

Asari-Dokubo Sends Powerful Message to Nigerian Govt and Biafrans
According to THE TRENT, Asari called on the Federal Government to release the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who has been detained since October 2015.
He said, ''Kanu did not commit any crime by calling for self-determination and he should be freed. It is never a crime to call for self-determination, thus, he should be freed. Biafrans have to put away their differences and make sure he comes out. When I was in detention, Igbo came together to bring me out. Nnamdi has done tremendously well and has shown resoluteness in the Biafra struggle. Our goal is our independence and the good of our people.
''IPOB should extend their campaign to every region in Biafraland and not just Igboland. The Biafra gospel should be preached everywhere and people should be told why they should fearlessly join in this movement.”

Rivers rerun polls must be free, peaceful
“We will deal decisively with all sponsors of violence. I have given the security services clear directives in this regard. We will show that violence in any form will no longer be tolerated before, during and after the elections.” With these belated but reassuring words, President Muhammadu Buhari signified the determination of the Federal Government to ensure that the rerun legislative polls in Rivers State billed for tomorrow will be conduct free, fair and safe manner. We want to see these words matched with concrete action during these rerun elections in which many State House of Assembly, Senate and House of Representatives posts rendered vacant at the Election and Appeal Tribunals will be contested for by registered political parties. In readiness for the elections, the Nigerian Police have sent the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 6, Mr Baba Bolanta, to take charge in addition to three Commissioners of Police already drafted. The Police have also mobilised 6,000 regulars as well as 16 units of the Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) who will join men and women of the Rivers State Police Command to provide security. The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Commission (NSCDC) have also deployed 2,000 personnel. These and other underground security and military officials were mustered in view of the tension and violence that pervaded the run up to, and during, the 2015 general elections as well as the build-up to the current rerun. The 2015 elections in the state were overshadowed by unprecedented spates of killings. For instance, a fact finding mission led by the former Chairman of the Nigerian Commission on Human Rights (NCHR), Prof Chidi Odinkalu, disclosed that 97 people were killed between November 2014 and April 2015. While the All Progressives Congress. APC alleged that 32 of its members have already been killed since the date for the rerun polls was fixed, Governor Nyesom Wike, who launched a special security programme recently, however, insisted that those killed were cult members who died during clashes between rival gangs. We call on all stakeholders, especially Governor Wike and the leader of the APC in the state, Transport Minister Rotimi Amaechi, to stop their sabre-rattling and lead by example. All political parties must cooperate with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies for the elections to succeed. We urge the INEC and security agencies to do their jobs professionally and not see themselves as agents of vested political interests so as not to encourage anyone to resort to “self-help” and compromise the safety of voters, electoral officials and innocent citizens. The Rivers rerun polls must be free, fair, credible and peaceful.

Revenue from non-oil exports down by 58% to $4.3bn — CBN
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has said that the revenue from non-oil exports fell sharply by 58 percent to $4.39 billion in 2015. Meanwhile, Zenith Bank has expressed its readiness to enhance revenue from non oil exports by assisting its clients with financing support needed export.

Average Pump Price of Petrol in Nigeria Drops From N109.59/Litre to N99.76/Litre
According to a recent report from the National Bureau of Statistics, the average Price consumers actually paid for petrol in February dropped to N99.7 per litre from N109.5 per litre in January 2016.
The highest petrol prices were recorded in Yobe-N122.8, Bayelsa-N120.0, C River-N116.6, Abia- N112.1, Sokoto-N111.7, Kebbi-N111.7 and lowest petrol prices were recorded in Edo and Ogun-N86.5, Lagos-87.0, Oyo- N87.2, and Delta state- N87.5.

$2.1bn arms probe: Court blasts EFCC, orders immediate release of Dasuki’s ex-aide

In the judgment on Dasuki’s aide, yesterday, Justice Yusuf Haliru directed the respondents to immediately release the applicant on self-recognition, saying his detention for over three months without trial, was “ illegal, wrongful, unlawful and constituted a blatant violation of the fundamental rights of the applicant.”

At least 14 people have been reportedly killed in the attack in Ivory Coast
Suspected al Qaeda gunmen who stormed a tourist resort in the Ivory Coast shot dead a young child because he did not speak Arabic, an eyewitness has revealed.
At least four men armed with AK47s and hand grenades gunned down 14 people in the historic town of Grand Bassam before they were killed in a shootout with Government troops.
One survivor, Marcel Guy, told of how the shooters approached two children and spoke to them in Arabic. He said one child knelt and prayed and the other one was shot on the spot.

Why Buhari should stop wasting his/our time
It is one of the axioms of management carved on stone by the management guru Peter Drucker, that nothing is more wasteful than doing diligently what should not be done at all – especially when the step to be taken is based on anger – which might not even be justified. Reading that statement credited to Buhari again, one is immediately struck with the irony involved in the historical precedents the President cited. Budgets by military governments at Federal and State levels were never debated nor were they passed to another body to approve. So, if there was padding, nobody would ever know.

FG apologises to Nigerians over the poor power supply nationwide
The federal government has apologised to Nigerians for the recent drop in power supply Nationwide. In a statement issued in Abuja by Segun Adeyemi, special adviser to the Minister of information and culture, Lai Mohammed, the Federal government blamed gas pipeline vandalism and sabotage on the poor power situation.
“The vandalisation of the Forcados export pipelines forced oil companies to shut down, making it impossible for them to produce gas.
Then, workers at the Ikeja DISCOS, who were protesting the disengagement of some of their colleagues after they failed the company’s competency test, apparently colluded with the National Transmission Station in Osogbo to shut down transmission. Finally, the unfortunate strike by the unions at the NNPC, over the restructuring of the corporation, shut down the Itarogun power station, the biggest in the country. Due to these factors, only 13 out of the 24 power stations in the country are currently functioning. It is this same kind of unsavoury situation that has affected fuel supply and subjected Nigerians to untold hardship. The bitter truth is that for as long as these groups of Nigerians continue to sabotage the power infrastructure, Nigerians cannot enjoy a decent level of power supply. We therefore admonish all Nigerians who may be agitating for their rights in whatever form to refrain from any action that will further hurt the same people they claim to be protecting,” he said.
The statement adds that the power situation will improve this week.
"There will be a decent improvement in the power situation from this weekend, thanks to ongoing remedial efforts that will double the current power supply to 4,000WM. Getting back to the 5,074MW all-time high that was reached earlier will take a few more weeks".

Two major road accidents in the last week brought to the fore again the dangers that lie in wait on Nigerian roads. The Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, James Ocholi, SAN, his wife and son lost their lives in a vehicle accident that occurred on the Kaduna- Abuja road, when their Lexus SUV vehicle somersaulted, following a burst tyre and the driver’s loss of control.
There was also the death on the Maiduguri-Damaturu road of Major-General Yasha’u Abubakar of the Training and Operations Department of the Nigerian Army. Both accidents have been a source of enormous grief, perhaps because of the status of the persons involved, but the truth is that Nigerian roads are treacherous and deceitful, marked as they are everyday, by a harvest of deaths and sorrow.
To report that the state of the roads is bad is to proclaim the notoriously obvious, and to say that more people die every minute on our roads is to iterate that the road in Nigeria is no respecter of persons or class. In its annual reports, the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has tried to identify the primary and secondary causes of road accidents, and in the current Ocholi case, it has offered a preliminary report, which reinforces the notion about every death being in the long run, a revelatory comment on man’s existential crisis.
The regret is that the death that occurs on Nigerian roads, is more often than not, man-made, regretfully self-invited and for that reason, mostly avoidable. Anyone who has ever travelled on Nigerian roads would readily admit that going onto those roads is like taking a risk and no man can call himself safe until he returns home in one piece at the end of the day. Many of our roads are pothole-ridden, bumpy and poorly maintained. Before the ad hoc resurfacing of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway from the Lagos end, there were uneven portions, which always made it seem as if the road was struggling with the driver to seize control of the steering wheel.
One moment of distraction, you could find yourself careering off the road. From the Ibadan end of the Expressway, there were hidden, deep potholes. Many motorists found themselves suddenly landing into those potholes only to lose their tyres or lives. So bad is this dilemma that many motorists require prior knowledge of the state of the road to be able to drive on it; that knowledge means knowing where the potholes are at what point and where dangerous contours need to be avoided. Years of neglect and lack of maintenance have reproduced this pattern across the country. It takes repeated and costly accidents before the appropriate authorities would rush to mend the roads. And this is not just on the highways; even inner city roads are problematic. When it rains in most Nigerian towns and cities, life grinds to a halt, because the roads are transformed into streams, overflowing with water, due to poor drainage, and from struggling to turn the vehicle into a boat and avoid unseen potholes, the worst may happen. We are almost in that season again, and soon the stories will be told, of accidents caused by slippery, water-logged and dangerous roads.
This fact of administrative and official failure is an important footnote to the FRSC report in the Ocholi case which draws attention to the driver’s negligence, over-speeding, his criminal conduct -driving without a licence (but note that he is a government driver!- who on earth assigned him to drive an official vehicle without a licence (?) and then, the non-use of seat belt by the deceased persons, who in the event of the accident were flung out of the vehicle, in addition to the wrong orientation of the vehicle’s tyres. The revelations by the FRSC Investigation Team should serve as necessary warning to drivers, passengers, vehicle owners and all road users, indeed all of us. Too many Nigerian road users behave as if life has a duplicate. I have seen drivers who insist “Oga don’t worry”. When you remind them about speed limits, their standard response is “Oga don’t worry”. Every Oga who sits in the owner’s corner should worry. There is no guarantee that accidents won’t occur. Reckless driving is the bane of the Nigerian road.
Commercial drivers are drunk most of the time, or they are under some kind of influence including the metaphysical which induces them to tell you that the vehicle is covered by the “blood of Jesus”, or that ‘No weapon fashioned against them shall prosper.” The more traditional ones insist that they have killed a dog for Ogun, the god of iron and so, Ogun will not forsake his own. As the FRSC has indicated, there are thousands behind the wheels on Nigerian roads who have never bothered to undergo a driving test, and these include persons working as official drivers. There is also the problem of vehicle maintenance. Half of the vehicles on our roads are either not roadworthy or they are poorly maintained. Have you not heard the drivers who are fond of saying: “we can manage Oga; I fit manage am”. The tyres are worn out, the wheel balancing and alignment are bad, but the Nigerian driver will rather “manage”. Even when the brakes begin to fail, the natural response is to “manage.” We don’t “worry” enough about safety; we cut corners and procrastinate, when the vehicle gives warning signs, we ignore, when the road breaks down, we look the other way.
It is this mentality that has made many of the employed drivers corrupt. When you give them money to buy fuel, they short-change you; when the vehicle is to be taken for repairs, they undercut you; when anything goes wrong, they refuse to inform you until it is too late. And yet, there are too many big men in Nigeria relying on drivers and not paying enough attention. It is a sign of status and class, to employ a driver or to be assigned one, but very few big men and women bother to monitor the men into whose hands their lives are entrusted.
The point about seat belt deserves to be properly underlined. Following the accidents under reference, there has been much talk about the importance of seat belts. According to the FRSC, “the ejection of the minister and his son, who occupied the rear seat, confirmed the fact that their rear seat belts were not in use and on the contrary, the driver and the orderly survived because the front seat belts were in use”. It is sad that many big men don’t worry about using seat belts. It is considered too much of an effort for a man to own a vehicle, or be big enough to be driven by another, only for him to tie himself down in the back seat. The widespread assumption is that the space called owner’s corner is meant for sprawling; it is regarded as a place of comfort from where the master backs orders at the assistants in the front seat! This owner’s corner syndrome has caused the death of many “big men and women”, there must be a vigorous campaign launched at all levels by the FRSC, civil society groups and other agencies to remind everyone that it is better to be a big man or woman alive than to ignore a simple safety task and lose one’s life.
The FRSC is threatening to prosecute late Minister Ocholi’s driver as soon as he is discharged from the hospital. But the FRSC must see in this experience, further justification for it to be more vigilant and assertive with its vehicle accident prevention strategies. It must launch a fresh and vigorous campaign against reckless driving, set clear speed limits, acquire the relevant technology to determine the abuse of those limits and raise its organizational capacity to prevent motorists from willfully committing suicide or killing others, by apprehending the reckless and enforcing the relevant laws. This should include descending heavily on persons who use the phone while driving. I can’t count the number of times other motorists nearly drove into a vehicle or constituted pure nuisance, just because they are busy driving with one hand and using the other hand to wield a phone while chatting heartily as if they are in their living rooms. When you call such persons to order, they have no qualms telling you to get lost or mind your own business!
The FRSC used to have many volunteers, otherwise known as Special Marshals, who effected citizen arrest or helped to make the roads saner either by controlling traffic or checking the excesses of other motorists. That volunteer corps should be re-energized. And anyone who does not have a driver’s licence should be sanctioned. The current penalties appear cheap, and so motorists are tempted to do as they wish. Speed violation attracts only a fine of N3, 000, driving under the influence - N5, 000, vehicle license violation -N3, 000, driving without seat belt – N2, 000; use of phone while driving- N4, 000; only dangerous driving attracts a fine as high as N50, 000, but of course by the time that N50, 000 is paid, lives may have been lost! These fines and penalties should be reviewed. Nigerians often choose which laws to respect or not and damn the consequences, particularly if they can easily pay a fine and walk away.
The various tributes on late Minister Ocholi have been touching, the story is sad, and may the Lord grant him, his wife, and son, peaceful repose, but after all the tears have been shed and the tributes delivered, what must be done is not to walk away until another tragedy occurs, but to take concrete steps to prevent similar accidents in the future, especially for the sake of the many unknown victims who die daily on our roads, and whose tragedy is unreported and unmourned. At the level of policy and action, note this: the first step is to separate the all-important task of making our roads safe and motorable from corrosive, partisan politics, itself a principal stumbling block.

No doubt, there is growing discontent in the country presently, what with the non-availability of fuel, and electricity, plus the economy taking a dive owing to the fall in value of the naira.
The optimism that heralded the coming of President Muhammadu Buhari seems to be fast disappearing, giving way to gloom.
Immediately after swearing in, Nigerians attributed every little improvement in services in the country to the ‘body language’ of Mr President while every form of dissent or criticism was attributed to the ‘wailing wailers’.

As months went by, the miraculous body language of Mr President started losing steam as the situation of Nigeria and Nigerians started taking a turn for the worse. His speeches and actions started to flip flop; denying promises made, trying to explain why it can’t be feasible, or either making a turnaround from statements that had been credited to his administration.
Here are nine flip flops the Buhari administration and his party, the APC, has exhibited since taking over governance:

Exposed: Names, addresses, family details of 22,000 ISIS members plus date of birth and next of kin
As culled from LIB, In what could be the biggest breakthrough in the fight against Terrorism, a cache of documents containing the personal information of 22,000 ISIS jihadists in Syria and Iraq has been retrieved by U.K intelligence chiefs after a disgruntled recruit stole the memory card of ISIS' leader.
In the documents, names, nationalities, addresses, telephone numbers, family contacts and even blood type of 22,000 recruits are found and also contains the details of at least 16 British fighters, including Birmingham hacker Junaid Hussain and Cardiff-born Reyaad Khan and British rapper Abdel Bary, a 26-year-old from London who joined ISIS in 2013 after visiting Libya, Egypt and Turkey.
Intelligence experts believe this is the biggest ISIS intelligence haul uncovered since the war against the terrorist group started.

Impeached Ondo State Female Speaker Has Been Reinstated
Barely 24 hours after she was impeached in a questionable manner, the first female Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Jumoke Akindele has been reinstated. The reinstatement came after a 5 hour meeting with the Ondo state governor, Olusegun Mimiko.
Akindele and her Deputy, Fatai Olotu, were impeached by 18 out of the 26 lawmakers at one of the lawmakers quarters in Akure, the Ondo state capital at about 10pm yesterday March 8th.

Switzerland 'Embassy' Reopens in Nigeria After 55 Years of Closure
The Swiss Government has inaugurated its new Consulate-General’s Office in Lagos, 55 years after it was closed, Vanguard reports.
Switzerland’s Federal Counsellor and Head of Foreign Affairs, Mr Didier Burkhalter, before declaring the office officially opened on Tuesday said that it was currently Switzerland's second Consulate-General’s Office in Sub-Saharan Africa.
“Switzerland is officially returning to the place where its long-standing friendship with Nigeria started 55 years ago: the exciting city of Lagos!
“Ever since the opening of our embassy, Nigeria has been at the heart of our foreign policy on Africa,’’ he said. According to him, the economic significance of Nigeria could not be “overstated’’, adding that it was “one of the main reasons’’ that the Consulate-General had been reopened.
“As the biggest economy in the continent, Nigeria not only plays a major role in shaping developments in Africa, this position also enables Nigeria to contribute to economic growth worldwide," he said.

Buhari unbundles NNPC into 7 units, names new heads
President Buhari has approved the immediate unbundling of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, into seven independent operational units. Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, made this known today March 8th. According to Kachiukwu, the new units are Upstream, Downstream, Gas & Power, Refineries, Ventures, Corporate Planning & Services and Finance and Accounts.
He said each of the units would be headed by chief executive officers, namely Bello Rabiu for Upstream; Henry Ikem-Onih (downstream); Anibor Kragha (Refineries); Saudu Mohammed (Gas & Power), Babatunde Adeniran (Ventures), Isiaka Abdulrasaq Finance & Accounting and Isa Inuwa Executive Head, Corporate Planning and Services.
All appointments take immediate effect.

Oil prices rise to $39, beat budget benchmark of $38
Global crude oil prices finally surpassed Nigeria’s budgetary benchmark, yesterday, trading above $39 per barrels. File Pho Crude Crude Oil This came as experts on the economy have cautioned the Federal Government to be frugal with the revenue accruing from the rise in oil price, so as to steer the country from the current economic downturn. The price of Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose to an all-year high of $39.50 on yesterday, from $27.10 on January 20, the lowest for Brent in 2016. The price of Nigeria’s crude has not been quoted by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), but sources say the price may surge to the budget benchmark region of $38. Nigeria’s 2016 budget was benchmarked at $38 per barrel against major criticism across the nation, following December 2015 prices of about $34 per barrel.

Robots are becoming part of our daily lives so don’t be surprised if you find one knocking at your door to deliver a package in the not-too-distant future.
But robots could be of better use especially in the medical field and Dr. Umamaheswar Duvvuri Macedonia’s border with Greece as scores of refugees remain stuck in limbo.

Saraki: In the eyes of the storm
THE recent Supreme Court judgement which pontificated that the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT has the requisite jurisdiction to try the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, on allegations of false asset declaration has effectively positioned the Kwara-born politician in the eyes of the storm. The apex court panel of seven Justices unanimously dismissed an appeal by Saraki challenging his trial by the tribunal. In the lead judgment, Justice Walter Onnoghen held that the Tribunal had quasi criminal jurisdiction to ensure public probity and accountability of public officers, a position the tribunal had maintained all the while.

Buhari sets to launch Ogoniland cleanup – Minister
President Muhammadu Buhari is set to launch the cleanup of Ogoniland in the coming weeks, says the Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed. The minister announced this when she paid a courtesy visit to Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers. “It is hoped that we will have this launch in the coming weeks and the president himself will launch the cleanup. “It is really to us a turning point in the history of the struggle. Ogoniland is the first place where actions need to be – cleanup. “There is a wide challenge of pollution in the Niger Delta. We are here to begin activities toward the launch of the cleanup with stakeholders’ dialogue. “We are beginning in Rivers because this is the home of the struggle but we know it is wider,’’ she said. The minister said that the cleanup of the Ogoniland would span between 25 and 30 years.
