A South African man has been convicted by the Scottburgh Regional Court for raping 18 women between the ages of 14 and 40.
Mhlonishwa
Mathebula, 33, who was said to be on rampage raping several women, got
a 315 year jail term for his atrocities. He received nine life
sentences and 90 years after pleading guilty.
Police had nicknamed
Mathebula the “springbok” for his ability — much like the gazelle-like
marsupial for which he was named — to elude South African authorities.
They say he had “managed to escape the net” on several occasions.
According to police spokesman, Colonel Jay Naicker: “He was extremely strong, agile and quick on his feet.”
Reports say Mathebula usually targeted females in the morning as they headed to school or work.
He sometimes acted with an accomplice and his last victim was attacked on March 2013.
