After HID Awolowo: What becomes of Ikenne, Awo’s dynasty, family businesses?

IT is no longer news that Late Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu  Awolowo,  the wife of first Premier of  Western Region,  Chief Obafemi Awolowo, began her life on November 25, 1915 and ended her era on September 19, 2015. Perhaps, what may be news is what happens to the Awolowo political and business dynasty after the passage of the patriarch and matriarch.

Born into the modest Adelana family in the small Ikenne community of Ogun State, Mrs Awolowo got married to the late sage on December 26, 1937. History has it that HID Awolowo was a successful businesswoman and astute politician who  played an active role in the politics of Western Nigeria.
She was said to have stood in for her husband in the alliance formed between the National Council of Nigerian Citizens, NCNC and  Action Group, AG, which was called the United Progressives Grand Alliance, UPGA, while her husband was in incarceration. Her husband famously referred to her as the “jewel of inestimable value.”
