Yoruba elders split over Jonathan, Buhari

LAGOS — THE South-West geo-political zone was split, yesterday, as Yoruba leaders and elders were sharply divided over who to vote for in the March 28 presidential polls between President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Divided into two groups, the leaders held parallel summits in Ibadan and Lagos and took divergent positions on what the Yoruba should do in the coming elections with reasons. While those at the Ibadan gathering were mostly for Buhari, the Lagos crowd rooted for Jonathan.

Those at the event included Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Samuel Odulana; General Alani Akinrinade (retd), Governors Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo) and Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Chief Rita Lori-Ogbebor and Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola.

(Reuters) - Bobbi Kristina Brown, the daughter of late pop singer Whitney Houston, has been moved to a rehabilitation facility from a Georgia hospital almost two months after she was found unresponsive in a bathtub, NBC News reported on Friday.

Citing an unnamed source close to the family, the news network said that Brown's condition had not changed. The source did not say when she had been moved or where she would be, the network reported.

Brown, 21, the only child of singers Bobby Brown and Houston, has been treated at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. She was discovered on Jan. 31 face down and unresponsive in a bathtub in her suburban home.

Passengers going to Dubai removed because they were below 40

Could this mean the information is true? According to the founder of a hotel booking website Mark Essien, he saw officials remove four passengers on their way to Dubai because they were below 40. My sister Laura wanted to go to Dubai for her birthday last week, but they told her not to bother. Looks like this Dubai restriction thing is for real. Anyone with similar experiences? AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Employees at several Austin businesses have found stickers saying "exclusively for white people" placed on their windows, sparking an investigation into their origin and condemnation from the mayor.

Mayor Steve Adler said the stickers discovered Wednesday morning were "an appalling and offensive display of ignorance in our city."
The stickers also say "Maximum of 5 colored customers / colored BOH staff accepted," apparently referring to the "back of house" operations at a restaurant. They featured a city of Austin logo and claimed to be "sponsored by the City of Austin Contemporary Partition and Restoration Program," though no such program exists. The city has said the use of its logo was unauthorized.

Alleged missing $20bn: Emir Sanusi got it wrong again, says NNPC

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has objected to recent statements credited to the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, claiming that the issues surrounding his allegation against NNPC have not been addressed

This is contained in a statement issued by the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Department, NNPC, Mr Ohi Alegbe, on Thursday in Abuja.

Almajiri schools: How Jonathan gave homeless street beggars decent education & shelter

The Almajiri Integrated Model School (AIMS) was commissioned by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2012 to remove the massive number of school-age children roaming the streets, off them. The objective was to bridge the gap between Islamic and Western education in the region, according to Sheik ShehuUbaidullah, the Principal of one of the schools in Sokoto that this reporter visited.

Ubaidullah who had previously been the principal of a traditional Almajiri school for seven years, explains to me that he embraced the integration of conventional Western school system and Islamic education as a means to re-educate children in the region and convince families in rural areas send their children to school.

At the Almajiri Model Boarding School in Gagi, Sokoto, I saw the pupils – all 260 of them - partake in an early morning and nightly Quranic recitation. In between, all other subjects taught to students in conventional schools are being taught as well. Students enjoy regular extra-curricular activities, take classes in Social Studies, utilize a science lab and are trained in vocational skills via a regular monthly workshop held by the school management. 

It seems like one administration  - the Jonathan one - has finally found a solution to the seemingly endless number of homeless children.

He then sent a screen shot from the video to Anaïs. Anaïs couldn't believe what she was seeing, the person in the video looked identical to her.

Curious about the lady, Anaïs Googled her and discovered that in addition to having the same face, they had the same date of birth, the same place of birth (Seoul), and they had both been adopted. The girls name was Samantha Futerman. Anaïs then reached out to her via Facebook and after speaking via Skype for three hours, the ladies discovered they were twins, separated at birth!

OECD cuts growth forecast for Canada in 2015 and 2016

The OECD has reduced its 2015 and 2016 economic growth forecasts for Canada, citing the drag caused by a significant drop in prices for oil and other commodities since its previous outlook in November.
The Paris-based organization is now estimating Canada's economy will grow by to 2.2 per cent this year, 0.4 less than previously thought. Next year's forecast has been trimmed to 2.1 per cent, down 0.3.
The OECD says Canada is among the countries that has been affected by the sharp decline in oil and commodity prices while others, particularly in Europe and Asia, will benefit from sharp drop in oil prices to six-year lows.

Busted! 3 Nigerians Caught Trying To Smuggle Drugs To Dubai, China At MMIA: Photos

In a statement released! The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have arrested a man smuggling 35.115 kilogramme of Cannabis sativa hidden inside sausage rolls to China.

Friday Ogbonna, 33, was arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, during a screening of passengers on their way to China, the anti-narcotics agency said in a statement today.

In addition to Mr. Ogbonna, the agency also arrested David Famolu, 34, and Joy Osamunyi, 26, on their way to Dubai with 4kg and 19.640kg of cannabis respectively.

Information is that President Jonathan has sacked the Executive Chairman of Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) Alhaji Kabiru Mashi (pictured left) and replaced him with the Coordinating Director at FIRS, Mr. Samuel Ogungbesan (right). Ogungbesan's appointment takes immediate effect.

Netanyahu wins Israel election after sharp shift to the right

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu won a come-from-behind victory in Israel's election on Wednesday after tacking hard to the right in the final days of campaigning, including abandoning a commitment to negotiate a Palestinian state.

In a four-day pre-election blitz, Netanyahu made a series of promises designed to shore up his Likud base and draw voters from other right-wing and nationalist parties. He pledged to go on building settlements on occupied land and said there would be no Palestinian state if he was re-elected.

With 99.5 percent of votes counted, Likud had won 29-30 seats in the 120-member Knesset, comfortably defeating the Zionist Union opposition on 24 seats, Israel's Central Election Committee and Israeli media said. A united list of Arab parties came in third.
