ABUJA – Ahead of the swearing in of the ministerial nominees following their successful screening and confirmation by the senate last week, the Presidency has denied releasing any list that assigned portfolios to them.
The denial followed the speculated list of portfolios which made the rounds especially on social media on Sunday.
Responding to Vanguard on the issue, the Special Adviser to President Mohammadu Buhari, Mr. Femi Adesina said that the list did not emanate from the presidency as it was not officially signed.
“Any communication from the presidency must be officially singed. Was that list signed by me or Mr. Garba Shehu? Please, ignore it”, he said.
He also did not reveal when the inauguration ceremony of the Ministers would hold.
Meanwhile, the speculated portfolios go as follows:

Not necessary a good time for the blues as Philippe Coutinho scored twice as Liverpool came from behind to beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge and pile pressure on under-fire manager Jose Mourinho.

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has described mercy of God as one of the major reasons the country has not witnessed another civil war amid the challenges confronting Nigeria.

I feel an almost savage envy on hearing that London has been flooded in my absence, while I am in the mere country. My own Battersea has been, I understand, particularly favoured as a meeting of the waters. Battersea was already, as I need hardly say, the most beautiful of human localities. Now that it has the additional splendour of great sheets of water, there must be something quite incomparable in the landscape (or waterscape) of my own romantic town. Battersea must be a vision of Venice. The boat that brought the meat from the butcher’s must have shot along those lanes of rippling silver with the strange smoothness of the gondola. The greengrocer who brought cabbages to the corner of the Latchmere Road must have leant upon the oar with the unearthly grace of the gondolier. There is nothing so perfectly poetical as an island; and when a district is flooded it becomes an archipelago.
Some consider such romantic views of flood or fire slightly lacking in reality. But really this romantic view of such inconveniences is quite as practical as the other. The true optimist who sees in such things an opportunity for enjoyment is quite as logical and much more sensible than the ordinary “Indignant Ratepayer” who sees in them an opportunity for grumbling. Real pain, as in the case of being burnt at Smithfield or having a toothache, is a positive thing; it can be supported, but scarcely enjoyed. But, after all, our toothaches are the exception, and as for being burnt at Smithfield, it only happens to us at the very longest intervals. And most of the inconveniences that make men swear or women cry are really sentimental or imaginative inconveniences—things altogether of the mind. For instance, we often hear grown-up people complaining of having to hang about a railway station and wait for a train. Did you ever hear a small boy complain of having to hang about a railway station and wait for a train? No; for to him to be inside a railway station is to be inside a cavern of wonder and a palace of poetical pleasures. Because to him the red light and the green light on the signal are like a new sun and a new moon. Because to him when the wooden arm of the signal falls down suddenly, it is as if a great king had thrown down his staff as a signal and started a shrieking tournament of trains. I myself am of little boys’ habit in this matter. They also serve who only stand and wait for the two fifteen. Their meditations may be full of rich and fruitful things. Many of the most purple hours of my life have been passed at Clapham Junction, which is now, I suppose, under water. I have been there in many moods so fixed and mystical that the water might well have come up to my waist before I noticed it particularly. But in the case of all such annoyances, as I have said, everything depends upon the emotional point of view. You can safely apply the test to almost every one of the things that are currently talked of as the typical nuisance of daily life.
For instance, there is a current impression that it is unpleasant to have to run after one’s hat. Why should it be unpleasant to the well-ordered and pious mind? Not merely because it is running, and running exhausts one. The same people run much faster in games and sports. The same people run much more eagerly after an uninteresting, little leather ball than they will after a nice silk hat. There is an idea that it is humiliating to run after one’s hat; and when people say it is humiliating they mean that it is comic. It certainly is comic; but man is a very comic creature, and most of the things he does are comic—eating, for instance. And the most comic things of all are exactly the things that are most worth doing—such as making love. A man running after a hat is not half so ridiculous as a man running after a wife.
Now a man could, if he felt rightly in the matter, run after his hat with the manliest ardour and the most sacred joy. He might regard himself as a jolly huntsman pursuing a wild animal, for certainly no animal could be wilder. In fact, I am inclined to believe that hat-hunting on windy days will be the sport of the upper classes in the future. There will be a meet of ladies and gentlemen on some high ground on a gusty morning. They will be told that the professional attendants have started a hat in such-and-such a thicket, or whatever be the technical term. Notice that this employment will in the fullest degree combine sport with humanitarianism. The hunters would feel that they were not inflicting pain. Nay, they would feel that they were inflicting pleasure, rich, almost riotous pleasure, upon the people who were looking on. When last I saw an old gentleman running after his hat in Hyde Park, I told him that a heart so benevolent as his ought to be filled with peace and thanks at the thought of how much unaffected pleasure his every gesture and bodily attitude were at that moment giving to the crowd.
The same principle can be applied to every other typical domestic worry. A gentleman trying to get a fly out of the milk or a piece of cork out of his glass of wine often imagines himself to be irritated. Let him think for a moment of the patience of anglers sitting by dark pools, and let his soul be immediately irradiated with gratification and repose. Again, I have known some people of very modern views driven by their distress to the use of theological terms to which they attached no doctrinal significance, merely because a drawer was jammed tight and they could not pull it out. A friend of mine was particularly afflicted in this way. Every day his drawer was jammed, and every day in consequence it was something else that rhymes to it. But I pointed out to him that this sense of wrong was really subjective and relative; it rested entirely upon the assumption that the drawer could, should, and would come out easily. “But if,” I said, “you picture to yourself that you are pulling against some powerful and oppressive enemy, the struggle will become merely exciting and not exasperating. Imagine that you are tugging up a lifeboat out of the sea. Imagine that you are roping up a fellow-creature out of an Alpine crevass. Imagine even that you are a boy again and engaged in a tug-of-war between French and English.” Shortly after saying this I left him; but I have no doubt at all that my words bore the best possible fruit. I have no doubt that every day of his life he hangs on to the handle of that drawer with a flushed face and eyes bright with battle, uttering encouraging shouts to himself, and seeming to hear all round him the roar of an applauding ring.
So I do not think that it is altogether fanciful or incredible to suppose that even the floods in London may be accepted and enjoyed poetically. Nothing beyond inconvenience seems really to have been caused by them; and inconvenience, as I have said, is only one aspect, and that the most unimaginative and accidental aspect of a really romantic situation. An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is only an adventure wrongly considered. The water that girdled the houses and shops of London must, if anything, have only increased their previous witchery and wonder. For as the Roman Catholic priest in the story said: “Wine is good with everything except water,” and on a similar principle, water is good with everything except wine.

Legal dispute over the propriety of the13-count criminal charge pending against the Senate President, Dr. Olubukola Saraki, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, has shifted to the Supreme Court.
This was even as Justices of the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, yesterday, disagreed on whether or not the charge which was preferred against Saraki by the Federal Ministry of Justice, ought to be quashed.

Orubebe for arraignment at CCT Nov 9 over alleged N70m bribery

ABUJA – The Federal Government has instituted a four-count criminal charge against the erstwhile Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Peter Orubebe, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal, CCT, sitting in Abuja.
Already, the Justice Danladi Umar-led tribunal has fixed November 9 to take the plea of the former Minister who is facing charges bordering on false declaration of assets and his alleged acceptance of bribe to the tune of about N70million.
Orubebe was okayed for trial by the Code of Conduct Bureau, CCB, through the office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
The charge against him which is dated October 8, was signed by a senior legal officer at the CCB, Mr. Peter Danladi.
Specifically, Orubebe was in the charge pending against him before the CCT, accused of failing to declare his ownership of two choice properties in Abuja.

Kylie Jenner has faced public scrutiny ever since she was a little girl.
When Keeping Up With the Kardashians started filming, Kylie was just nine-years-old which drastically interrupted her "normal" lifestyle growing up in Calabasas.r3

Now that Jenner is older, she's able to reflect on what she has lost AND what she has gained from her fame. The reality star admitted:r1
"All the time. I dream about it. I never wish to have somebody else's life—I was meant to have this life for a reason, and I'm going to make the best out of it. But I have normal friends. I sit at my house, and they practically live with me, and I watch them get ready to go to a high school party, hang out with their friends, go to concerts."
Hmm, we find that kind of statement pretty sad considering Kyles never had a choice in whether or not she wanted to be famous.
Despite the occasional daydreaming, the 18-year-old realizes her blessings, saying:
"I can't just get up and go to a concert. I've never been to a concert like that with my friends. So there's a lot of stuff I've missed out on, but there's a lot of experiences that I've had that they were never able to experience."

PDP senators walk out as Amaechi is confirmed

ABUJA — The intrigues that shadowed the confirmation hearing of the 36 ministerial nominees reached an anti-climax yesterday when all but one senator in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP caucus walked out to protest the confirmation of former governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, as minister.

Popular MTV Star Sam Sarpong Dead At 40
This is so incredibly sad.
Sam Sarpong, who hosted MTV's reality show Yo Momma, has passed away.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the model's publicist said:
"It is with great sadness that the family of Samuel ‘Sam' Sarpong, Jr. must share the news that Sam has passed away… The family appreciates the thoughts prayers and other expressions of sympathy, and request their privacy be respected at this extremely difficult time."
According to the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner, the actor reportedly committed suicide by jumping off a bridge in Pasadena.
An autopsy is currently pending.
His co-host Wilmer Valderrama released the following statement
:
"I am so sad and so confused.. Sam did it all, believed in dreaming bigger than anyone around him.. We made memories together that will last us forever, thank you for sharing your talent with me and the world.. Find your peace my brother! And to everyone in a dark place.. Love they say is a beautiful thing! Could it be true that Serena Williams is pregnant with Drake’s baby? It all depends on which media outlet you believe.
If you believe Media Take Out, then the answer is yes, Williams is absolutely pregnant. The rumor website insists emphatically that Serena is going to be a mother. The website cites a “snitch close to Serena” and a photo of Serena, which the website claims shows a baby bump.
“Serena Williams is going to be a mom and Drake is going to be a father. This is not rumor y’all… it’s fact. MediaTakeOut.come spoke with a snitch close to Serena who told us that Serena was actually pregnant during the US Open. The child, we’re told, is Drake’s… but the couple is not together.”
Media Take Out is just about the only gossip site that believes the Serena Williams pregnancy report to be true. In fact, Gossip Cop slammed the report from Media Take Out, saying that perhaps MTO needs a better source.

Ibadan — OVER five million sickle cell patients in Nigeria and other African countries can now heave a sigh of relief as the University of Ibadan in partnership with the University of Illinois, Chicago, USA and University of Loyola, Chicago have discovered a permanent cure for the terminal disease.
The cure of the deadly disease, according to the Professor of Medicine, Victor Gordeuk, who is the Director, Sickle Cell Centre, University of Illinois, Chicago, USA and his colleagues, Prof. Damiano Rondelli, also from the same university and Prof. Bamidele Tayo, University of Loyola, Chicago this new treatment is done through bone marrow transplant and that it is less risky.
This was revealed yesterday at the University College Hospital, Ibadan after a three-day brainstorming session with other experts in the teaching hospital.

American Politics: Hillary Clinton on Colbert: I would let the big banks fail
New York (CNN)—Hillary Clinton told Stephen Colbert on Tuesday that, as president, she would let the big banks fail if they were to get into trouble.
That's a departure from what her former boss, President Barack Obama, did in 2009.
"If you're president and the banks are failing, do we let them fail?" asked Colbert, host of CBS' "The Late Show."
"Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes," Clinton said emphatically. "First of all, under Dodd-Frank, that is what will happen because we now have stress tests and I'm going to impose a risk fee on the big bank if they engage in risky behavior but they have to know, their shareholders have to know that yes, they will fail and if they're too big to fail. Then under my plan and others that have been proposed, they may have to be broken up."
The answer is the most direct Clinton has given on what would happen if the nation's biggest financial institutions were to get into trouble if she were in the White House. Clinton has embraced Dodd-Frank, a financial regulation reform law passed in the wake of the 2007-8 financial crisis, and has proposed increasing accountability on Wall Street by punishing criminal behavior and instituting a fee on excessive leverage and short-term borrowing.

Three Palestinians shot dead after knife attacks: Israeli army

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Three Palestinians were shot dead after attacking Israeli soldiers with knives in the occupied West Bank on Tuesday, the military said, and an American-Israeli wounded in an attack two weeks ago died of his injuries, an Israeli hospital said.
Religious and political tensions over a Jerusalem site sacred to both Muslims and Jews have fuelled the worst wave of Israeli-Palestinian violence since the 2014 Gaza war.
The Israeli military said that soldiers had approached two Palestinians they found acting suspiciously at a junction near a Jewish settlement. When the suspects stabbed and wounded one of the soldiers, they were shot, the army said in a statement.
A military spokesman said they had been killed. Their families said they were 17 and 22 years old.
Hours later, the army said it had shot dead another Palestinian who tried to stab a soldier in the Palestinian city of Hebron.
Since Oct. 1, at least 59 Palestinians, 32 of whom Israel has said were armed assailants, have been shot dead by Israelis at the scene of attacks or during protests in the West Bank and in Gaza. Many of the attackers have been teenagers.
Many Palestinians say Israeli police and soldiers are using excessive force, while Israel says lethal force is justified against deadly threats.
Amnesty International said on Tuesday that it had found some of the killings of Palestinians had been unjustified, and that Israeli forces were using "extreme and unlawful measures".

Goodluck Jonathan’s rise to statesmanship

SINCE his ouster from power via the March 28 presidential election, President Goodluck Jonathan has maintained a rather low profile. He has minded his business and has said little that could even been vaguely interpreted as political. This should not be surprising for a man who must have been at the end of his tether by the time the results of the March polls were announced. Not only had he been trounced by his opponent but his party was more or less like a sinking ship that was being deserted by its inmates.

It was in such tatters that it’s yet to find its bearing six months since it was sent into the opposition corner of Nigerian politics. But in spite of the travails of the Peoples Democratic Party, not least the in-fighting that has brought it to the brink of disintegration, Jonathan has so far maintained the stance of a bystander.
He has been content to watch from the sideline as his erstwhile supporters in the PDP fight one another dirty over control of the carcass that their party has since become.
Some of these remnant warlords in the PDP who still pretend to be keeping faith with the party are alleged to have set Jonathan’s re-election ambition on the rocks by their pilfering of campaign funds and barely concealed backstabbing antics. Now they’ve succeeded in showing themselves for the common thieves that they are by making it relatively easy to push both Jonathan and their discredited party out of power, they are with one hand trying to hold together at the seams the torn garments of their party, while using the other hand to battle their opponents both within and outside the PDP.
Even as this drama unfolds, Jonathan has yet said nothing. It is easy to imagine him contemplating from the detached remove of his political sabbatical the unending treachery of the same people who propped him up as the candidate to beat even when they knew he was already a stale presidential product.
The scales must have fallen from Jonathan’s eyes immediately the results of the March presidential polls came in. He must have realised he had been defeated in spite of the intimidating war chest of both local and foreign currencies he had set up among party stalwarts to ensure his return to Abuja. But rather than allowing himself to be further taken for a ride by contesting the result of the election as the likes of Godsday Orubebe would have wanted, Jonathan took the honourable path of conceding defeat and thereafter got down to the task of ensuring a smooth handover of power, not minding the contrary advice of both family and party members. Jonathan looked truly tired and worn after the election. He did well to take what he himself described as a deserved vacation during which he stayed far from politics.
He was rarely seen in public and had virtually no word for the press, not even when some of his ardent supporters were being shown to have bankrupted the national treasury under his watch. He has only just started making his comeback to the public space and not even the damning verdict of his self-confessed number one supporter and adoptive political father, Chief Edwin Clark, that he watched while corruption took on a life of its own under his administration- not even this denial by his own ‘father’ would chafe him. Silence has since been the word from his end. But when he finally chose to make his entry, it was in deliberately measured steps. What better way to do this than by announcing the establishment of his foundation, coming along with his selection as the head of a Commonwealth monitoring group to the Tanzanian elections that tool place four days ago? By‘re-launching’ himself in this manner Jonathan is taking his destiny in his own hand. He must henceforth determine for himself and by his own effort what would be his legacy after serving as president.
Had Jonathan chosen to contest the outcome of the last presidential election, not many Nigerians would have thought it odd. He would only be following the beaten path of Nigerian politicians. He would not have been short of supporters either, including his political father who now considers him too soft on corruption.
The odd thing he did was not to have travelled down the winding path of the electoral tribunal and called into question everything connected to the election. He disappointed many, if not all, of his ardent party and ethnic supporters on this score. He denied them the opportunity to further milk him dry while pretending to be fighting a patriotic cause.
But had Jonathan taken the advice of those who wanted him to reject the result of the election, his name would by now be anathema outside Nigeria and in many parts of the country. It would have led to a calamity of unimaginable proportion, throwing the entire country into chaos.
It was evidently in recognition of his ‘sacrifice’ that he was appointed to lead the Commonwealth observer group to the Tanzanian election. He has taken that role seriously and has rightly warned the Tanzanians to learn from his experience in the Nigerian election. An incumbent that could relinquish power is the perfect ambassador against African sit-tight syndrome. He would be less amenable to condone electoral fraud and more likely to urge acceptance on a defeated candidate particularly an incumbent bent on retaining power. Goodluck Jonathan sure earned the recognition that befits his acceptance of defeat in the March election.
This one ‘dividend’ of his democratic posture is well deserved and should not be denied him. If we would have condemned him had he chosen to reject the result of the last election, we ought also to commend and celebrate him for the positive outcome of the choice he made not to reject the result.
His estranged godfather, Olusegun Obasanjo who was head of the ECOWAS observer group that monitored the Ivorian presidential election that held same day as the Tanzanian election, did no more than Jonathan (that is ensured a free and peaceful transition of power) before he became the celebrated leader that is today feted around the world.
Obasanjo built his international profile and launched his career as a writer on this singular act. He was, thereafter, well on his way to becoming an international statesman with more international clout today than any other Nigerian leader living and, arguably, dead. President Goodluck Jonathan could also begin the gradual process of ensuring a positive legacy for himself even after the massive corruption that marked the end of his administration. He might serve Nigeria and the world better in retirement than when in power. Now is his time to become a statesman.

He was rarely seen in public and had virtually no word for the press, not even when some of his ardent supporters were being shown to have bankrupted the national treasury under his watch. He has only just started making his comeback to the public space and not even the damning verdict of his self-confessed number one supporter and adoptive political father, Chief Edwin Clark, that he watched while corruption took on a life of its own under his administration- not even this denial by his own ‘father’ would chafe him. Silence has since been the word from his end. But when he finally chose to make his entry, it was in deliberately measured steps. What better way to do this than by announcing the establishment of his foundation, coming along with his selection as the head of a Commonwealth monitoring group to the Tanzanian elections that tool place four days ago? By‘re-launching’ himself in this manner Jonathan is taking his destiny in his own hand. He must henceforth determine for himself and by his own effort what would be his legacy after serving as president.
Had Jonathan chosen to contest the outcome of the last presidential election, not many Nigerians would have thought it odd. He would only be following the beaten path of Nigerian politicians. He would not have been short of supporters either, including his political father who now considers him too soft on corruption.
The odd thing he did was not to have travelled down the winding path of the electoral tribunal and called into question everything connected to the election. He disappointed many, if not all, of his ardent party and ethnic supporters on this score. He denied them the opportunity to further milk him dry while pretending to be fighting a patriotic cause.
But had Jonathan taken the advice of those who wanted him to reject the result of the election, his name would by now be anathema outside Nigeria and in many parts of the country. It would have led to a calamity of unimaginable proportion, throwing the entire country into chaos.
It was evidently in recognition of his ‘sacrifice’ that he was appointed to lead the Commonwealth observer group to the Tanzanian election. He has taken that role seriously and has rightly warned the Tanzanians to learn from his experience in the Nigerian election. An incumbent that could relinquish power is the perfect ambassador against African sit-tight syndrome. He would be less amenable to condone electoral fraud and more likely to urge acceptance on a defeated candidate particularly an incumbent bent on retaining power. Goodluck Jonathan sure earned the recognition that befits his acceptance of defeat in the March election.
This one ‘dividend’ of his democratic posture is well deserved and should not be denied him. If we would have condemned him had he chosen to reject the result of the last election, we ought also to commend and celebrate him for the positive outcome of the choice he made not to reject the result.
His estranged godfather, Olusegun Obasanjo who was head of the ECOWAS observer group that monitored the Ivorian presidential election that held same day as the Tanzanian election, did no more than Jonathan (that is ensured a free and peaceful transition of power) before he became the celebrated leader that is today feted around the world.
Obasanjo built his international profile and launched his career as a writer on this singular act. He was, thereafter, well on his way to becoming an international statesman with more international clout today than any other Nigerian leader living and, arguably, dead. President Goodluck Jonathan could also begin the gradual process of ensuring a positive legacy for himself even after the massive corruption that marked the end of his administration. He might serve Nigeria and the world better in retirement than when in power. Now is his time to become a statesman.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday, dismissed the suit filed by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, challenging the jurisdiction of the Rivers governorship election petition tribunal to hear a petition by candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dakuku Peterside.

The River State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja has annulled the election of Chief Nyesom Wike of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the April 11, 2015 governorship poll in the State.

Ndigbo in Akure eats humble pie, begs Deji over misconduct of Eze
The leadership of the Igbo community in Akure, Ondo State, on Friday swallowed its pride and begged for pardon from the Deji of Akure, Aladetoyinbo Adelusi, following two weeks of hostilities between the Igbo community and the palace.
The Deji had vowed to obliterate the position of the Eze Ndigbo of Akure, after the title holder, Gregory Iloehika, allegedly insulted the traditional ruler.
Mr. Iloehika, was accused of rude behaviour at the Deji’s palace, an action which angered the Chiefs and resulted in a war of wits between the palace chiefs and Igbo traders.

Buhari’s choice of a long loyal political associate as his minister from Edo State could alter permutations as regard the emergence of governorship candidates in the forthcoming governorship election in the state.
THE body language of Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his associates in the All Progressives Congress, APC had indicated that the battle for his succession would be narrowed down to the Edo South Senatorial district.
It was as such not surprising that Oshiomhole’s leading political traducer in the state, Chief Tony Anenih, the leader as he is called by his associates, moved with caution to nudge the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP to narrow the party’s ticket to the dominant Edo South senatorial district.
The reason the two major parties in the state narrowed the choice to Edo South was because the district with more than 50% of the total voting population could easily determine the outcome of the main election in the event of the election taking an ethnic divide.

Unless the Senate confirms or formally rejects him by Thursday, October 29, Amaechi would automatically be sworn in as a minister upon the expiration of the 21-day constitutional deadline allowed the Senate to confirm or reject a ministerial nominee.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari took power promising to tackle the "mind-boggling" level of corruption in his country's oil industry. But can he succeed?
Although oil is said to account for 75% of the Nigerian economy, no-one knows how much the country actually produces or refines because hundreds of thousands of barrels of oil are stolen every day, at each level of the supply chain.
President Buhari has taken personal control of the oil ministry and split the state-owned NNPC oil company into two entities in a move aimed at reducing corruption.
Four experts talk to the BBC World Service Inquiry programme about the challenge he faces.

Kolawole Banwo is a senior programme officer at Nigeria's Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre.
"We do not have an independent metering facility to measure the quantity of oil that is extracted.
"We are not able to know the figures, [but] as at 2014, Nigeria could have been losing 300,000 barrels a day; about $12bn (£8bn) annually. That's a sizeable part of our budget.
"We can hardly afford to pay basic salaries and fund our budget because oil is being stolen. Considering we have the highest number of out-of-school children all over the world; the highest risk of maternal mortality; decaying infrastructure, and about 60% of our population live in poverty, it's very shocking indeed.
"Some of these pipelines were built in the 60s and 70s, so they are not strong. They are on the surface, they are rusted.

The fate of Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi, arguably, one of the best performing governors in the last dispensation hangs as a moral burden on the All Progressives Congress, APC Senate caucus. After deferring the screening on two occasions, the Senate would be hard put to justify another deferment today.

IT is not surprising that Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi’s ministerial confirmation hearing has generated the most contentious debate among stakeholders. Controversy was imprinted at his naming ceremony even as an infant. Though he is neither Yoruba nor Igbo, Amaechi bears two of the most popular names among the mutually suspicious Yoruba and Igbo.
His schooling was also not without controversy peaking with his activism on the platform of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS in the mid-80s.
Politically, Amaechi’s footprints are also laced with much controversy underpinned by his revolutionary emergence as governor in 2007 on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, despite having a ‘K-leg’ problem as perceived by the former leader of the party and then President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Why we have sex

Sex, since the history of man or human evolution has gone through several changes, even in terms of definition and form and the individuals engaging in it. Once upon a time, sex was thought to be primarily for reproductive reasons, then for the relief of sexual tension and later, for the sexual pleasure. Right from the explosive documentation of the Kama Sutra, various studies and experiences have been carried out by persons and institutions to unravel the mystery of human sexology and why, besides procreation, sex is important to mortal men and women.
From the researches of Alfred Kinsey who is regarded as the father of sexology in the 40s and 50s to Masters and Johnson’s famous researches on orgasms of the 60s and 70s, sex has become a subject of great interest to all.
Now, a research conducted by psychologists Cindy Meston and David Buss on why women have sex which is published in the Archives of Sexual Behaviour, the duo in their new book of the same title, have listed 237 reasons why women have sex with their partners.
Ranging from the mundane desires to experience physical pleasure; to the vengeful intentions of getting back at a cheating partner, the spiritual attempt to get closer to God, or the altruistic gesture of wanting a partner to feel good about themselves, Meston and Buss concluded that the motives for engaging in sexual intercourse may be larger in number than what most people think and psychologically complex in nature too.
Some of the reasons listed are quite glaring and practiced across societies and persons at various times, regardless of their marital status too. In fact, marital sex as well as long term relationships tend to be more complex than those in newer or non-commitment relationships. Just as a married woman may have a legion of reasons for not wanting to have sex, she just might have another gazillion on why she must have sex.
The most important and common reason being “duty sex”. Once married, it is assumed that providing sexual pleasure to her partner is a given. She must fulfill her own side of the bargain to keep the union. To some other women, it is the price for the status and benefits. In this case, it has nothing to do with her own sexual pleasures or preference and more about submission, ditto the man. Many women also believe that the more sex they have with their partners, the less chances he is likely to stray.
Women assume that the more sex he gets with them, the less chances he is likely to think about sex outside the box, much less look for it. While good communication channel and a strong sexual connection may have been identified as important keys to a good relationship, hardly has having sex with a partner on demand been known to keep a person from straying into the thighs of another individual. Some women also believe that sex and children are the perfect ways to keep their men.
Women dubiously believe that the more children and responsibility they throw at their husbands, the less likely they are to walk away from them. So, where they have agreed on two children, these women, on their own volition, manipulate or “accidentally” go on to have more children. This hardly works in some cases. You can only keep a man down for as long as he wants to stay down. I intend to write more about this complex situation in subsequent editions. Let’s just go through some reasons I found quite interesting in this book which I have practical examples for:
Pity sex: Women may sometimes give in to sex for this simple reason, after all, we are women with maternal instincts. Some of the women in the book confessed to have had sex with men just because they felt sorry for them. According to one, she had been dating a guy over two years and he had been pleading with her all through. One day, she said she took pity on him and agreed. However, he was out of the door as soon as he could pull his pants up. A similar scenario happened to one of the young girls I counsel.
She’d been dating the guy for quite some time, and though she’d told him she was no virgin, she’d however decided to go celibate until she was married. The guy had gone on to systematically work on her emotions and soon, broke her down. She said the day she agreed to have sex with him, he had prostrated flat on his stomach, swearing heaven on earth. What kind of desperation is that? However, what happened after the act, almost robbed her of her education as she did not want to return to school.
She said immediately it was over, he jumped up and punched the air with his fist, asking if that was all that she had to offer and that he’d had better lays. He went on to tell her that he had only been acting out a script and never loved her. In fact, he and a couple of guys already placed a bet on her and though she had tried, he had won eventually. To make matters worse, he had ordered her out of his room.
She said she ran away from school and several days was even scared to pick her calls or check the social media as she feared that he had recorded their activities and might post it on the internet. Eventually, he had come to apologise but the damage had already been done. Sex for pity’s sake almost always turn out to leave a sour taste in the mouth as you can never be sure of the other person’s motives.
Have sex because you want to and not because you feel pressured to, or are sorry for the guy. That way, should things go sour, you can hold your head up, look the a- – in the eye and say “f..k off, you fall me, I fall you, no big deal!” Marriage sex: This is very different from marital sex. This is simply sex to negotiate for marriage. Some ladies believe that having sex with a guy will provide them the opportunity to show the guys and convince them that they are good and suitable for each other.
To add insult to injury, some of these ladies are prepared to play little housewife roles, they go over to the guy’s apartments for chores and even wash their dirty under wears and clothes. Some even cook with their own money to convince the guys that they can support the union financially too. My little sister gave me a gist about one of her friends who played house help for someone she called her fiancé for almost four years, refusing to heed everyone’s warning.
As suspected, her generosity and selfless acts did not succeed at the negotiation table as the guy sprung the most unexpected surprise. He married the daughter of his neighbour and co-tenant, the little girl that had been calling his fiancée “aunty” and often came to the apartment to play with her when the guy was not around! My bet is that she had even run errands between the lovers and had benefited from the older lady’s generosity too. Eventually, they both betrayed her, her goodness did not help, neither her assumed sexual prowess.
Trade by barter sex: Just as the phrase imply, this is when you use what you have to get what you want. The first thing that comes to mind here is prostitution, that age old trade of using the body for financial benefits. The activities of the prostitution ricampus-sex111ng are a multimillion dollar investment worldwide with tentacles in drugs, violent crimes, human trafficking and many other vices.
Interestingly, the average prostitute in many climes no longer enjoys the liberty of dealing her wares as a one man (sorry, woman) enterprise or sole trader to any interested client today.
To carry on business as usual, she needs protection and this she invests in with the proceeds from her business as well as sex. Again, a drug addict or junkie will exchange sex for drugs naturally and when caught in a tight corner, many women have been known to exchange sex for their freedom.
Negotiation sex: If the above seem rather on the dark side, let’s bring it down to base. Many things have been written about the power of the female anatomy. I mean, bottom power! Many men, both high and lowly have been known to succumb to the aura of this potent natural endowment. Many women have perfected the art of using their gifts from mother nature to get what they want through intense manipulation and negotiation. Sex is thus used by women to curry favour, to get jobs, promotions, or even maintain status as the case might be.
A friend once told me the trick she uses to get anything she wants from her boyfriend. According to her, he is one of those shy types who can hardly express his thoughts or views on issues, let alone approach women. So, he considers himself very lucky to have found her and perhaps cannot trade the opportunity of the occasional sex for anything. (not yet, at least).
So, for her, most times, She engages in sex to get him to do stuff for her. Her crude method even involves stopping in the middle of the act to get him to agree to her demand. And the poor thing just crumbles like a pack of cards.
Revenge sex: This is common with women who have been hurt and who want to get their pound of flesh. Often, a wife might cheat on her cheating husband just to get back at him and probably make him feel the way she felt. It could also be to get back at a partner who has neglected them. Again, she might have sex to reassure herself that she is still pretty and desirable by men after she’d been jilted by one, or to simply walk out of an existing relationship.
Revenge sex may sometimes take a bizarre twist, depending on motive and individual. While working on my book, Youth, Sex and Wellbeing, I spoke with a lady who confessed to having slept with a boyfriend she was no longer interested in and infected him with a STI. According to her, she’d gone to visit on his insistence, thinking that she would seize the opportunity to inform him of her slight indisposition. But to her annoyance, she caught him escorting another girl off.
And though she’d always known she was not his only partner, seeing him that day was just too much and she made up her mind to teach him a lesson. A couple of years back, a National Newspaper published the self confession of a university undergraduate who at the brink of death, afflicted with full blown AIDS, claimed she’d purposely passed on the HIV virus to over 400 men. Her grouse was not with these men but the man who’d given her the virus and she wanted to take her revenge out on the world.
If the men thought she was an easy lay at the time, they definitely would have a change of heart after reading her confession! Cindy Meston and David Buss, aptly summarised the various motives in these words. “Every person brings their own individual history to any sexual situation. The reasons why they are having sex, the way they feel about the sex and the consequences of having sex are all very different across individuals no matter what gender they happen to be”. And that includes men too.

LETTER OF LEAVING SCHOOL.

I'm writter this letter with haters and tell you that I'm leave your school for good enough.
The why of the leave it is because at your school, the teachers are beat us very harmful and very sad. Sometimes one day of once upon a time, I wanted to cried but my friends telled me a man is a sheep he is not a cry. I was silent but vibrating in and out.
Another why is because of discriminate, we writted a test and I'm cheated, I get 20% that I'm not deserved. The teachers says my head is dead. Oh, it pained me too much.
I will tell you plenty things when you want us early in the morning but Sir you must know it is very ice in the morning, blanket is not want to be removed from body, I wake up early but I am come late. I'm write exzam study at another school.
Great your wife and childish. Pliz tell all childs of school that I'm say good bye for ever and ever amen.

TANZANIAN PROTESTS OVER THE CLOSING OF STORE
Angry staff and suppliers from one of East Africa's leading retailers, Uchumi Supermarkets, have forced the closure of one of its stores in Tanzania.
More than 300 people barricaded the store in Dar es Salaam amid fears they would not get paid.
There have been reports that the chain, which is based in neighbouring Kenya, is closing some of its shops.
Financial woes have already forced Uchumi to recently shut some of its outlets in Uganda.
The struggling retailer has said talks are under way to resolve the dispute.

WE ARE YOUR CHILDREN by Adefemi
It might seems like a game but this is a different ball game entirely. Looking at the great possibility of restructuring Nigeria to be a better nation, the task is huge for an
erudite,intelligent,rugged and indefatigable
President Buhari. Yet, the bucks stop on his table in moving this country forward. It is not illogical to say he belong to nobody and belongs to everybody because time will tell. Mr President need to wake up and put his best energy on insecurity and governance while other things will fall into place because of his personality. I want him to fight corruption to the fullest no matter who is involved but it must not be selective because people are watching critically. It is good for people to have choice through a dedication to change but they must no be short changed. Nigeria is a lovely country with capacity for development and vibrant youth with innovative minds! It is so saddened that none of them could get a space in your angelic list why? May be I should wait for second batch. We will patiently wait. My great PMB, in as much I keep tap on your progress and I believe in your pedigree to do your best please do everything possible within your power to call Fulani Herdsmen to order because of the recent development in the country over chief Olu Falae. He is an elder statesman just like you sir and it will not good for him to be ridiculed.
In all fairness to you sir, you have brought sanity to the conscious mind of Nigerian's that there is hope but the only area I'm not that comfortable with is the area where you seems to put attention on 97% and seems not to be bothered on 5%. Please treat us as your children because you are presently the father of the nation.

You don't secure lives with lies ! by Adefemi
I can't sleep because of insecurity and when I looked at what happened in Turkey yesterday where many people as over 90 lost their lives through bomb blast, I felt so bad. Come to our great nation where great people are going
