Champions League: Chelsea fumbles to a 1-1 draw against Schalke

Chelsea couldn't carry over their Premier League form into Europe as they struggled in their 1-1 draw against Schalke 04 in the UEFA Champions League.

Jose Mourinho's team have been imperious in the English Premier League, already leading the table with maximum points after four games, which made them the firm favourites coming into this game against the Germans.

Schalke had injury worries coming into the fixture but the Germans put up a spirited performance in the game to secure a valuable point on the road.

Cesc Fabregas opened his account for Chelsea, sweeping home a pass from Eden Hazard in the 11th minute.

It looked like it was going to be a vintage Chelsea performance from then on but they couldn't find the second elusive goal.

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar stumped in an equaliser after a quick counter to level for his side in the second half, and the Germans held on from then.

Loic Remy had a shot cleared off the line as Schalke held on for the precious point.

Meanwhile in Germany,Bayern Munich left it late to secure a 1-0 victory over Manchester City.

Jerome Boateng scored a stunning last-minute winner to deny his former team a point.
