Chelsea consolidated on their position at the top of the English Premier
League table with a 3-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspurs.
The Blues were efficient on the task they needed to do, punishing the
visiting Spurs who were not completely ran over as the result might tend
to suggest.
Maybe it would have been a different story had Spurs converted the early chances they got in the match.
Harry Kane came close on two occasions, seeing his header brush of the crossbar and his effort sweep across Thibaut Courtois.
However, Chelsea went into the ascendancy after a brilliant 1-2 resulted
in Didier Drogba laying up the ball to Eden Hazard who beat Hugo Lloris
to open the scores.
A poor clearance from Lloris led to his team conceding the second goal,
this time Drogba collected a through ball from Oscar, then looped it for
Chelsea's second.
Loic Remy then came off the bench to score, puncturing Spurs' dominance
in the second half, and killing off any hopes of a comeback.
The game got Chelsea back to winning ways after the blip against
Sunderland last weekend, with their unbeaten run yet to be breached.
Meanwhile Manchester City ensured that the gap with Chelsea was within six points defeating Sunderland at the Stadium of light.
Manuel Pellegrini's team came from a goal down to beat Gus Poyet's side 4-1 at the Stadium of Light.
Yet again their dangerman Sergio Aguero made the difference, netting a brace that helped them get all three points on the road.
Arsenal on their part left it very late to defeat Southampton 1-0 in a game that looked even at the Emirates.
Alexis Sanchez rose to the occasion once more for the Gunners, netting the solitary goal that made the difference for his team.
All the five top teams won their games this midweek, as the fight for who finishes on top hots up.
Results:
Arsenal 1-0 Southampton
Chelsea 3-0 Spurs
Everton 1-1 Hull
Sunderland 1-4 Man City
