The animosity between the Nigerian government and
its American counterpart has deepened with the Nigerian government
cancelling a plan to have the United States military train a battalion
of the Nigerian army to confront the extremist Boko Haram sect.
No reasons where given by Nigerian officials for
the cancelation of the training, but the United State government says it
regrets the move.
“At the request of the Nigerian government, the
United States will discontinue its training of a Nigerian Army
battalion,” the U.S. government, through its embassy in Abuja, said in a
statement.
It will be recalled that the Nigerian
government had earlier accused the US of not providing sufficient
support for its fight against Boko Haram.
