It was a bloody day at Ikare
Akoko, headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government on Monday as armed
robbers killed 15 persons in a daylight operation.
The attacked bank was the First
Bank, which was equally attacked in 2013 along with two others and which led to
closure of banking business in the commercial city for several months.
Unlike the previous incident
which happened in the night yesterday's incident started at about 3.00pm.
The robbers, a source in the town
said came in two vehicles painted in military colours while the robbers wore
mobile police uniform.
According to the source, the men
blew up the security door of the bank with dynamite.
It was gathered that most of
those that were killed are bank customers including three that were killed at
the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) point and four police men.
The robbers who were said to have
escaped through routes leading to Edo State were said to have stolen huge sums
of money.
As expected, the operation shook
the entire town as people were said to be running helter skelter for their dear
lives. The town was to have been deserted for about two and half hours that the
operation lasted.
When contacted, the Police Public
Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Police, Mr Wole Ogodo said he had
not been briefed about the incident from the area.
