NFVCB confirms ban of ’50 Shades of Grey’ in Nigeria – The National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) has confirmed the suspension on the film, 50 Shades of Grey, that have earlier began showing in theatres across Nigeria.
In a statement signed by its Ag. Head of Corporate Affairs, Mike Ekunno and obtained by NET, the Board cited public interest for the decision and asked cinemas across the country to stop screening the movie forthwith. The statement also disclosed that the censors board is unwavering in its resolve to attend to submitted movies with utmost dispatch and the display of due diligence in its role as the industry’s gatekeeper.


Mike added that the apex movie regulatory agency has approved a combined total of 23 movies for the months of December, 2014 and January, 2015. English Language movies garnered the lion share of 10 out of the 11 approved movies leaving one for Yoruba Language category in January 2015. Three of the films were rated ‘15’ while the rest got the ‘18’ classification. The Board has also directed that all approved movies are to be released this year with appropriate consumer advisories regarding imitable technique, strong language, violence, drug abuse and fetish rituals.
