Bruce Jenner’s exclusive sit-down with Diane Sawyer proved to be ratings gold for ABC.
The special interview, which saw Bruce finally reveal that he’s transgender after months of speculation, was watched by nearly 17 million viewers and notched a sizable 5.2 rating among adults 18 to 49.
For those of you who need a point of comparison, Bruce’s interview performed on a par with FOX’s colossal hit show Empire, which is incredible considering that Friday night is often deemed the graveyard slot in American television.
Even more incredible is that Bruce’s tell-all nearly quadrupled 20/20‘s typical Friday night audience. In fact, ABC reported that Bruce’s interview was the top-rated Friday airing of 20/20 since 2000.
