Are you sitting down? Because we're
about to lay some serious, heart-melting, weak knee-inducing cuteness on
you. You've been warned! George Kirby, a 102-year-old man in East
Sussex, U.K., has popped the question
to Doreen Luckie, his 91-year-old sweetheart. Since their wedding day,
June 13, is Kirby's birthday, they'll share 194 combined years between
them when they get married. That puts them in the running for the
"oldest newlyweds in the world" throne, which isn't a thing we realized
existed, but now we do and we absolutely love it.
Guinness
calculates the oldest newlyweds in the world by combining the number of
years and days each person has lived on the day of the marriage,
according to company rep Kristen Ott (via ABC News). These two lovebirds
submitted their engagement to the Guinness World Records, but to
officially nab the title, they'll need to wait til they make it legal on
their wedding day.
So, how does the happy couple feel about all of this? Pretty calm and rational. "You hear so many people living into their hundreds now, and lots of people in their nineties, I thought, ‘Well, we can’t be the only ones,’” Luckie told Metro UK.
