A 22-year old Turkish man, Cem Garipoglu who was
convicted of murdering his girlfriend in his family‘s luxury villa while
still a teenager in a case that sent shockwaves through Turkey has died on Friday after committing suicide in prison.
He was found hanged in Istanbul prison where he
was serving a 24-year jail sentence for murdering Munevver Karabulut, 17
who was then his girlfriend.
According
to what the court heard, Cem found out Karabulut was cheating and
decided to kill her in return. He stabbed her several times in his
family’s luxury villa in 2009, cut off
her head and dumped her body in a garbage bin. His mother and uncle who
later helped in cleaning up the house after finding out what Cem had
done, were also sentenced to 3years imprisonment each.
Cem’s family however wants the Government to investigate his death because they think someone might have murdered
their son in prison, especially when his late girlfriend’s father said
he wished Cem had killed himself in a new book he wrote about his
daughter’s death.
