Arsenal wanted to sign me - Joseph Yobo

Former Super Eagles captain Joseph Yobo has denied having any fresh contact from Arsenal about a possible deal, adding that they only approached him in the past.

Yobo has been linked with a move to Gunners in recent weeks, possibly a short term deal to help them as Arsenal are presently stretched in defence.

But the 34-year said that he is not aware of any contact from Arsenal revealing that he was once approached Arsene Wenger to join them when he was still at Everton.

“I read Arsenal were interested in me, it was news to me. There is no formal contact with anybody. I know Arsene Wenger admires me a lot and wanted me to replace Sol Campbell some years ago, but Everton blocked the move.

“He wanted me to partner Kolo Toure in defense; I was younger then. If negotiations are taking place, I am not aware, maybe the club is speaking with my agent," said Yobo.

Yobo is currently a free agent after he was released by Turkish club,Fenerbahce this summer.
