Stoke city secured a surprise away victory,beating Manchester City 1-0 at the Etihad stadium to take all three points.
In a game Manuel Pellegrini admitted will be tough for his team,it did
turn out that way as Stoke City made sure there was nothing to celebrate
for the home team.
Rather it was Mark Hughes who had the last laugh,leading Stoke to defeat his former club.
Mame Biram Diouf's solitary strike made the difference after the
Senegalese ran almost the whole length of the pitch,evading two City
players from a quick counter to slot the ball past Joe Hart.
Two Nigerians Victor Moses and Osaze Odewingie played their part in the
match,helping their side with the win,although Osaze had to be
substituted just twenty minutes after his introduction,being stretchered
off with an injury.
There were two penalty appeals turned down in the match by referee Lee
Mason for either side,one on Diouf in the first half and another on Yaya
Toure in the second half.
City had the better possession in the game but it counted for little
against Stoke who were very compact,stuck in a tackle and defended very
well to secure their first win away against the Premier Champions.
