THERE was pandemonium at the Federal Government Girls College (FGGC), Jalingo, Taraba State, as a female student, identified as Blessing, alongside her father, were caught with a cache of explosives they wanted to smuggle into the school.
The attempt was foiled as the school internal security operatives were conducting the conventional stop and search of luggage of all returning students.
The explosives were uncovered securedly concealed in her bag of garri.
The school management swiftly alerted the police authorities, who swung into action immediately and arrested the suspect and her father.
Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), John Kwaji, noted that the suspects were already in police custody.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the suspect and her father had come from Numan in Adamawa State.
According Kwaji, policemen from the EOD unit were immediately dispatched to the area upon receipt of the information and two military hand grenades were recovered.
He commended the school management for its proactive security measures that led to the discovery of the grenades, while charging the public to be at alert.
When the Nigerian Tribune visited the school, normalcy seemed to have returned, but fear and uneasy calm was evident on the faces of students and the teachers.
This incident is the first of its kind in Taraba State and it had raised security concerns about the possible invasion of the state by the Boko Haram sect.
