Ahead of the February 14 presidential election, President Goodluck
Jonathan has started giving account of his stewardship, saying in 20
months of his assumption of office, he built nine universities and 20
Almajiri schools across the country.
The president, who spoke yesterday through his special assistant on
new media, Reno Omokri, outlined his achievements via the social media
platform, twitter, with a question hashtag #canyourcandidatesaysame?
Apparently responding to the barrage of criticisms on the performance
of his administration by the opposition All Progressives Congress
(APC), Jonathan said he has prioritised education and led an open
government, adding that no critic, journalist or newspaper has been
jailed or banned for their criticisms.
Omokri who tweeted via his twitter handle @renoomokri, revealed that
Jonathan was committed to the ethos of democracy, stressing that
Jonathan has never privately or publicly called for violence because of
desperation for power.
He stated in his tweet, “In Jonathan’s first 20 months in office, he
built nine universities and 50 Almajiri schools. Under Jonathan,
education always had either the highest or second highest budgetary
allocation.”
According to him, even when power was within his reach in 2010, GEJ did not take it but waited for God to elevate him.
“Jonathan submitted his PhD certificate to INEC in a show of
transparency. Jonathan has remained loyal to his party, the PDP, and has
NEVER been in another party. God, is Jonathan’s Godfather, not a
‘Chicago Certificate’ described by some as having the “worst corruption
cases.”
“Under Jonathan, soldiers never flogged innocent Nigerians on the
streets. Jonathan never served under a military government in which
pro-democracy activists were brutally murdered. God gave Jonathan power
through the votes of millions of Nigerians; he never took it by force”.
Finally, Jonathan said, “My ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.
“Absolutely nothing ever happens to those who criticise President
Jonathan. I wish same can be said about Buhari’s critics like Sheikh
Gumi!”
He said, “Jonathan publicly declared he has no property or account abroad and all his children school in Nigeria.
“Bad workmen blame their tools. Why this talk about parallel
govt/rejection of elections? You lose Ekiti, it’s rigged. You win Osun,
it’s fair.”
